It's not the prostate cancer - it's involved with an older treatment method. Castration used to be an almost 'routine' operation when prostate cancer had been detected.

Let's see... I'm gay, over 50, raised in evengelical church - but yet was oldest male of oldest male in direct line, so was up to me to 'insure the name is carried on'.

There's a story here that is along these lines - sorry, but I don't remember title or author.

Jist of story was castration OR penectomy would re-grow in approx 3 months, total nullification in approx 6 months - allowing fantasy to become reality as often as you liked.
