Sorry we disagree. I don't see the simile in your wedding scenario at all. But, indeed, if someone was getting married just for the nice wedding I do think it would be for the wrong reasons.
This thread wasn't posed as an "with all things being equal" proposition in my reading of it. It was based on a proposal of IF a certain condition were met WOULD you then get castrated. My point was that, if, that is a condition upon being castrated it's being done for the wrong reason.
Sure, if a guy is GOING to be castrated anyways, and would prefer one way over another, and they have that option, they should do it the way they want. But, I maintain, that if it's a condition that must be met before they do it, then it's a bad idea.
Chemical castration is really on relevant for guys wishing to be castrated, and NOT have HRT. For a guy that has no desire to be a eunuch, and does not identify as a eunuch, chemical castration wouldn't be a test drive for anything.

I don't think it is quite that clear cut. If you've wanted something for a long time and only get to do it once, then it isn't unreasonable to want to do it in a ceremoneous way. What you guys are saying is like saying "if you want a nice wedding then you're getting married for the wrong reasons". This can also be true (some women are more about the fantasy of a wedding than being married) but isn't really fair.
With all things equal, it is reasonable to want something done in a specific way. This thread was posed exactly that way -- if you had an equal choice, i.e. a woman doctor was just as easy as going to Kimmel, which would you choose.
However, in practice it really depends on the time frame and conditions. If you go for years obsessed with castration but won't do it because it isn't a woman doctor, then that is definitely a warning that your obsession is a fetish about the act.
Overall I think the more telling statement is related to chemical castration -- if you're not willing to try chemical castration then you're getting castrated for the wrong reasons. It is pretty ridiculous to want something but be unwilling to try it out. Some people may try chem castration and have other problems with it (I had a lot of problems with the diuretic effect of Siterone for example), but at least I tried it.
