Just yesterday we (talula and I) were talking about you and hoping you were ok.

Glad to see you post, the archive would not be right without you.

I doubt if AOL had anything to do with it. The computer was over six years old, running a P2, 64 MEG of RAM, and a hard disk of "only" 6 Gigabytes.☕

So what are the specs on the new computer, Andrew, and who built it?

It's a brand new COMPAQ that my Brother and I bought at COSCO for under $700. Not sure of the exact specs, and still trying to figure out if I can run all my old DOS games on this new version of Microsh*t windows.

Andrew,

What version of MS Windows did the machine come with, XP Home?

If so, you should be able to execute DOS programs just like on your old machine...

Load a game

Create an ICON on your desktop

Right click on the ICON

Click on Properties

Click on the Compatibility tab

In the upper portion of this tab, you will find a Compatibility Mode inner box which lets you select Windows 95

After you set the Compatibility Mode, click on OK

Double click on the game ICON.

If I am not mistaken, that was the version of MS Windows on your long dead PC?...

Best of luck...

I absolutely detest Windows XP. It's got to be the most annoying and aggravating OS's every written, as far as trying to get WORK done.

The best thing I did after buying a new PC a couple of years ago, it came with Windows XP, I wiped it clean and we loaded Windows 2000. On my newest PC we bulit it from the ground up, (we, Talula and I) and Windows 2000 is on it. I hate XP, its as bad as owning a Mac.

Oh and I was given an older pc and we loded is with (drum roll) Lenix.

Go back and buy the service policy for at least 12 months if not 24 months. I bought an "e-machine" portable from Best Buy and the modem burnt out within 8 months and took the CPU with it. They completely replaced the machine under the policy and I upgraded to a few more features.

I hope that I don't have to tell you that you should "back-up" your files on a regular basis.

Amen. Awful system. I fully agree.
