I would be for longer terms, no possibility of parole. That can still be overturned if there is a wrongful conviction.

I am worried about castrations, chemical or surgical, being associated with or confabulated with an elective castration for someone who wants to become a Eunuch.

I'm not at all comfortable w/ FORCED chemical or surgical castration... Voluntary bothers me far less.

I might consider the idea of a requirement that part of volunteering would be confession to the act that one was convicted of, w/ enough details to be convincing that he really was the one that did it... That would presumably reduce the incidence of castration in the case of wrongful convictions...

I'm much more open to the idea of voluntary castration. One objection to the chemical methods I'm aware of is often a selling point, namely that they are temporary and function returns after a while.... It would be possible to make showing up for more treatments part of parole conditions, but that could be an enforcement problem. OTOH Surgical is permanent so the only problem becomes keeping the person from getting replacement T, and it seems easier to test for that rather than repeating a drug treatment....

I'm definitely a big fan of the idea of voluntary castration being more easily accessible for a variety of reasons, and I think that may be the only way for it to be effective in curbing dangerous sexual urges. This is just a hunch I have but I think someone needs to recognize that they have a problem and seek out fixes for really any solution to work. It's similar for drug addicts, you can force them through detox and rehab but unless they want to quit they won't.

I'm also uncomfortable with castration being an option for early release or as part of a plea bargain. I think that could be abused and unfortunately innocent people often feel forced to accept plea bargains. I just don't trust the justice system enough I guess.

In my considered opinion, forced castration, by surgery , or chemical, is barbaric and unworthy of a modern society.

In addition, even by removing testosterone, any man can obtain testosterone replacement.

Although there is a mental desire to castrate an offender who is convicted of rape, we all know of the cases of people convicted of murder, who are sentenced to death, who later are proven to not have committed the murder. At least in their situation, although they lose up to many decades of living their lives and being with families, and contributing to society, in the case of a man who is surgically castrated, there is no undo for that if they are later proven to not have committed the rape they were convicted of doing.
