I don't think it is so much a case of "want nothing to do with FA" as it is concern about some of the legal implications of it, particularly the minor content as we've discussed elsewhere... The question of talking about the stories is up to Fusion as a final call, but my guess is that it is probably OK to discuss the FA in general, and adult only stories.... Stories w/ minors might be OK to mention titles, and discussion that doesn't include character ages....

Thank you for pointing out that there is content containing minors in the FA. I considered downloading it but would prefer not to take a chance.

I don't think you have significant risk. There is a difference between fiction which has minors involved (No real children involved) vs. keeping actual conversation or photos of minors on your computer (actual/real children involved = VERY BAD).

At least for now, and likely into the future because EAv3 is hosted in AU and thus subject to AU law, the FA itself will NOT be a part of EAv3. It is probable that discussion of the FA will be allowed, at least to the extent that it does not get into explicit details of things involving minors... We will see what develops, and Fusion will have the final say about what is / isn't allowed since he''s the site operator.

I think there is fairly little risk in downloading it for your personal reading, at least if you avoid doing other things that would cause the authorities to want to dig into what is on your computer ;) As mentioned it is fiction with no harm being done to real children, so it is somewhat questionable as to whether it is legally problematic to begin with. But more significantly is that if nobody has a reason to look, who cares?

(FWIW, I have downloaded it...)

The discussion about legal risks is not about what people have on their personal machines for their own personal enjoyment, but about the possible risks of having possibly risky content on a more or less publicly accessible website that is visible to anyone that looks...

Considering that the FA existed for as long as it has with the old crew running it, and not had legal hassles that I'm aware of, I'm not sure how much real risk there would be for running a new site with the same material in the US, but I don't have the knowledge / skills to run a site so it wouldn't be my ass at risk if someone else does, so I can't make the call for anyone else about what to post.

Working actively on FAv3. WheelyFixed got a sneak peak. ;)

Should hopefully go live soon so I can switch my focus on scraping EAv2's forum.

Please let us know when it is live and I will add the link to the landing page and at the top of the forums, like with chat.

To be honest having different people running all three parts of EA will make things a lot easier to manage.

fhunter runs the chat
Fusion runs EA forums and main site
Dandelion running FA

This will mean Recourses are not stretched out but we can also support each other.

Better then having one group run all three platforms.

That's just my thoughts atn.

I can say from the sneak peek that Dandelion is doing a great job on setting up the new FA site... He says that he hopes to 'go live' with the site in the next week or so, unless serious problems show up. So far I've not seen any significant problems.

It may not have all the same search features initially but those can probably be added later. Some minor improvements like cleaning up at least some of the 'variations in author names' like the multiple names that CvanD's stories were posted under... He says it will also be easier to fix problems as they are spotted because of the way the new software is set up.

I also just saw a definitive statement from Paolo on EAv2 that may help clarify the 'minor' question...
As of this date, it is still legal to have text-only fiction depicting minors - in the USA.

This is why the Fiction Archive only has smiley face graphics for pictures.

However, laws vary from country to country.

The company that hosts the Fiction Archive and the physical server are located in the USA.

Several famous authors have best-sellers on the shelf depicting sexual themes and violent scenes involving minor-aged characters. Stephen King's "IT" comes readily to mind.

Laws vary by country, however.
AFAIK, everything that Dandelion is doing is US based...

I do also agree with your idea about having different folks running each of the three areas... Better use of resources, and it also eliminates the 'single point of failure' issue...

For those working here. It's beyond any skills I have, but I was noticing in the Fhunter downloaded version of the fiction archive (FA), that he captured the menus for all the stories tagged with a MINOR tag.

From what I can see of how it was all setup, each story had a numerical identifier in the database starting at 1, and ending somewhere in the 10,000's. The menus for the tags do not reference these stories by name, but by that numerical identifier, as near as I can tell. It would seem to me that someone with better skills than I could adopt this pattern to isolate/quarantine the minor stories into a subfolder, then only post the remaining stories using that numerical ID as the filter.

When I did a quick look-up a few months ago when the MINOR issue was being discussed on the old system, it appeared to me then that about 1/3 of the stories would disappear from the fiction archive if those tagged with MINOR were removed. Then those would need to be removed from the additional menus Fhunter supplied which sorted by the other tags (Straight, Gay, Nullification, Testicles, etc.) because the stories all had multiple tags associated, and therefore, showed up in more than one of these menus.

I also noticed not every story which had a MINOR tag had minor content. So that would leave a clean-up task, if someone wanted to do it, to go through the minor stories and figure out which ones may have been inappropriately tagged as such.

Again, I'm just talking about using this pattern to edit out the files that were tagged on the old system to eliminate those tagged with MINOR. It's not something I'd take on myself at this point as life is throwing too much at me at the moment for me to give it the time it would need/deserve. But hopefully there is someone with the skill to see the same patterns in the system I did, and work the magic.

I'll admit to having downloaded Fhunter's file for my own use, but haven't made the time to look at it yet... However I think that you made some good points, and I'd also add that not all stories that had minors in them had a Minor tag, so there are problems that go both directions in terms of the tag...

I'd love to see a sufficiently definite / authoritative legal opinion about the minor stories to allow them to be posted, both because of their number and because I think that many of them are among the best written stories in the collection, totally aside from the kids being fixed aspect. (I ask if a story is still worth reading if the surgery itself was deleted or replaced w/ some other harmless non-kinky act...) I know that the EW collection seems to have been up for years w/ no publicly mentioned hassles, and have been told that text-only fiction (ie. what was posted) is legal in the US, but then some posts have mentioned a "Mr Doubles" case (who sounded like a much slimier operation) and the "Miller Test" as to whether a work is obscene....

However I've been one of those given 'sneak preview' access to the site (US based BTW) that Dandelion has been setting up w/ the story collection (w/o the minor stories at this time) and he appears to be doing an excellent job of dealing with the points you raise...

At this point because THIS site is based in AU, which has much more restrictive laws, I believe that it will NOT host stories itself, but will instead point at Dandelions site. It is planned to allow discussion of the stories, at least the adult ones, but not host them directly. Fusion can supply more details on this.

Dandelion has said he plans to open to the public very soon, and is accelerating his plans given the apparent earlier than planned shutdown of EAv2 and EW...

Personally, I would like to see an additional board for transgender/ gender non-conforming individuals.

I have seen a rise in men wanting SRS in recent years, so it would be good to see some additional information on how to access that kind of service whilst remaining socially male.
