Astonishing! I have no current idea as to what proportions of the population are ascribed to the various orientations listed above, but i suspect that "gay" in all definitions is considerably less than 61%. Comparing the population estimates of "gay" with the 61% associated with MBM, might be of statistical significance, even highly perhaps.
Maybe the 8% straight is downright flabberghasting, but the numbers need statistical treatment for forming a properly informed opinion?
As for the sociological significance, well, but we have experts here....

This MBM "survey" is far from scientific - just what is self reported by our users in their profiles. It took a lot of time to compile this because I had to enter it from each profile manually.
I think what I draw from the data is that males who perform extreme modifications tend to be gay but there are straight men out there doing this also, just not as many. Perhaps it's more accepted in the gay community, or the straight guys are being more reserved about it. On that I have no answer, but I can definitively say that straight people doing this stuff do exist.
What I do find striking is how many of our users have no mods at all. Now, some of those might be inclined to get them at some point but it gave me a good idea of what the approximate percentages are of people who actually do something and how many are just hanging out looking. We are wanting to gently move the model of the site to a modified men's community of sharing.
We've not set it up yet but are CONSIDERING giving free or very low cost (think pennies and one time only, a kind of verification of age thing - generally only adults have credit cards) access to our message board area that will require a similar process to what is now needed to activate so we avoid spam. If people want to see the photos and videos they would be able to buy our love.

Some other changes in the access structure might happen too but we're not ready to announce anything yet.
One of our broader goals is to make MBM a place where you know for certain what you're going to get when you go there - that is, content related to body modification and not a sad version of xTube. A lot of modification content providers don't do that.
For now, the site is under the same model as it has been from inception and we do not have a date for any changes (or a final decision if we will do anything at all). Right now I'm busy cleaning up the current video and photo submissions to make the search engine box at the top of our site work better. I'm about 40% done with that and the search results already show a huge improvement.
Sorry, looks like I threadjacked *blush*. I return you to the discussion of straight men and nullo/eunuch body mods.

I find that 61 percent gay figure to be astonishing.I'm straight (confused?transgendered?) not gay...and have a split head and several shaft piercings...so I qualify to be there, I guess.. I have been mulling over joining this group...Soon...Push my button! Hehe..Thanks Losethem..Jackie

The gay and straight categories do not include anyone identified as transgender as we have a different orientation selection for that. I think you can choose from the following: Gay, Straight, Transgender, Bisexual, It's complicated, and Asexual.
Since it's not scientific the only thing I think I could say with certainty is that it proves self-identified straight people into extreme body modification do exist.

Let's try a thought here... Chopping off arms, legs.... That's extreme. No dissent? Thought not.
A circ? A castration for medical & T replacement. Probably less worse than the insulin-diabetic. IMHO not extreme.
Ring in the nose, a reroute, ditto.
SRS? Nullo? Elective Castration? Life changers, certainly, but unless done impulsively, probably the result of due consideration by the individual. We also have the right to choose unwisely. Otherwise, is hardly freedom.
At the risk of starting a firestorm here, I say, "Go for it!" Life is precious and to be experienced, even enjoyed in many roles. Some are pressed on us by different age milestones, and some we are able to choose. I do not hold that the more censorious in society have significant rights above the giving of advice to such choices of the individual.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, or maybe it is the gay thing, but I have no problem telling people that I am a eunuch. It's who I am and what I wanted so my thought is "what's the big deal". Friends and family know and it's not an issue for any of them. I lived way to much of my life being concerned about what other people think, after being castrated a bit over a year ago I am happy and proud.

When people close to me discover that I had my testicles removed they, express their concern for me. When I tell them that I'm fine and not to worry because it's no big deal, they don't know what else to say.

I state the obvious. One does not need a penis or balls to urinate.
Thus, the ONLY function for these dangling participles is nature's copy machine.
If you don't want to participate in that part of nature, you really don't need the tools to do a job you are not going to do.
Testosterone is the driving force to engage in sexual activity.
With low or no testosterone a man can still provide sperm for "survival of the species".
Even with no testes, assuming frozen sperm has been stored, reproduction is still possible.
If testosterone is causing a person problems, lowering it, one way or another, seems like a logical course to take.
How many men in prison would not be in prison had they been able to lower their testosterone? We will never know.
Those problems fueled by testosterone could be extreme for the individual and socially unacceptable.
Or they could just be internal, or no interest to anyone else but the individual themselves.
It's your body, your life. Why not pursue it on your own terms?
Unfortunately society, medicine, government continues to decide how each individual shall live, or not live
But one mold does not fit all.
Sometimes you just have to go it alone, out of the norm, at odds with society.
But whatever the decision, be safe, responsible, hurt no one, and be absolutely sure of your decisions.
The costs, time, and stress of professional assistance is probably the best course of action.
It is quite possible that with assistance, some other course of action than what you feel should be done might be revealed to you as an alternative.
But the social negativity about any man wanting to eliminate his testosterone is so strong it is very tough to seek counsel.
The assumption is that counselors will immediately see you as flawed, and in need of correction; that they will not work with you to discover if what you think you need is really what you need; that instead they will work to mold you into what they think you need. If seems transfolk are more able to get viable guidance, but not so much the man who seeks only to become testosterone free (with or without balls).
So, wanting to be testosterone free, one way or another, or even genital free, is still the elephant in the room.
Not something talked about in public in any kind of frank, serious discussion.
.
Which is why so many men who want to be testosterone free wonder, Am I the only one?
The EA, and a few studies, have shown us that NO, such a need is not unique.
Like red hair, tall people, short people, or mensa people, in a vast pool of billions of people, a certain number of men born have the need to be testosterone free.
While society has a problem with this, the individual should not let society control their life.
Hopefully some day orchiectomy and penectomy will just be another line item on the urologists price list and scrotum removal will just be another line item on the plastic surgeon's menu.
I will re-add as I frequently do, my life long intense craving to be castrated subsided when I finally eliminated natural testosterone production.
I view testosterone as the culprit. For me, getting rid of it was the cure.
I am eunuch like, just not castrated. Which for me is an acceptable alternative now that I have experienced it.
Not all that fond of surgery, so things worked out.
