You have me deepest sympathies. I have had the indescribable joy of dogs and cats in my life and have also shared the hurt when they died. I bawl like an old woman every time one of them dies.

THE CREATION OF MAN'S BEST FRIEND
The Great Mother called a beast to her side and said, "I want my children to be happy for they are created in my image. Therefore you must adore them. You will protect them, shepherd their flocks, watch over them and accompany them wherever they may go.
You will be their companion, their ally and their slave. You will walk by my children, sleep in their doorway, protect them from their enemies, share their troubles and love and comfort them. For doing this my children will fulfill your needs and wants which will only be food, water, shelter and love.
To do these things I will give you instincts that I have given no other animal: faithfulness, devotion and understanding beyond that of even my children. So that your courage will never fail you shall never foresee your death. So you will be eternally loyal you will be blind to the faults of my children. So that your heart can be understood you will be denied the power of words but will speak to my children only with your mind and through your eyes.
So be silent and be a friend of my children. This will be your legacy and your immortality for I have placed you above all beasts."
The dog heard and was content.

Think about what Dog spells in reverse? Perhaps there is a reason for that....

Ken I am so sorry, pets have a way of becoming not part of our lives but someone who we try to do everything to please. I know I feel much the same way about Rupert, who you have met. My heart goes out to you my friend.

I had a really bad day yesterday then whn I got to my mom's house my weiner dog whose name is Jimmy Dean was laying dead on the porch. I got him from a rescue back in 2001 and could never house break him. I took him to my mom's place to live in the country where he could roam the huge yard and chase rabbits. He lived a happy life and I suspect he passed from old age. It was just a really sad end to an already super stressful day.

My Mother had made me this Poem in a Cross Stitch, I will always keep it close to my heart.
I do wish to share it with you, and thank each and everyone for your kinds words once again.
A DOG'S PRAYER
By Beth Norman Harris
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest--and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.~
Ramses, I'm also so sorry to hear about your loss as well, Dachshunds are one of the most wonderful loving and smartest dogs in the world. Of course I'm a bit predjust on that opinion.

Ken, I am so sorry to hear about little max passing.

I know Joshie gave you all the comfort you needed. I wish I could give you a big hug, just like we did at the meeting last year. It felt like you were my younger, but big brother. Just very close to me. I can't wait to see you again.
ps. The poem was beautiful.
love and big hugs, Lilac

That was a wonderful poem Ken. I'm sorry for your loss as I know how the loss of a dog can feel. When I was 12, I had a dog that got shot by the cattle rancher next door. He got hit in the neck and made it home to me only to die a few minutes later in my arms. It was a truely horrible experience that i will never forget.

To all who have lost a loved pet:
My deepest condolences. I might be a cold hearted SOB misanthrope but my heart melts when it comes to animals.
