I'm still working on being there physically, but my schedule may not allow it, unless I come out there Saturday evening and stay over. *shrugs* anyone got a sofa?
I'm pretty sure there will be a place to sleep, especially if you don't mind having the stars for a ceiling.

I've been contacted by a long-time Archive member who is currently off-line. He will be driving from Ventura County to the MoM and would like someone to share gasoline expenses with. He will be pulling a camping trailer and can sleep one extra person in a separate bed (though fairly tight space). He can also carry tent & sleeping bag for anyone who would prefer to camp under the oaks.
Drop me a <Private Message> and I will pass on his telephone number to you.

I may have to see if I can find a sleeping bag and cot mattress for the evening. I think my folks may have one.

It may still be two months until the Midwest MoM, but there are only three weeks left until the West Coast version.
If you are planning to attend and have not yet requested a copy of the map to the site, send me a <Private Message> ASAP. I need an email address that will accept a PDF attachment of the map.
While there is plenty of space to pitch a tent under the trees and plenty of space for parking an RV or camping trailer, I can also give suggestions for motels within a few minutes of the site.
Let me know if you're planning to come. We need to start planning for all of the meals (and for enough wine to keep the gathering lubricated). There will be non-alcoholic drinks, as well....

I'll try to come, I'm just not sure how successful I'll be at getting time to be there when there are people there not packing to go home. *shrugs*
I'm trying to come over sometime the evening of that Saturday, but much will depend on availability of a shower facility since I'll be coming directly from working at the hospital, with all the associated scents that go with that. *shrugs*
That and I need to see how long it takes to drive from the hospital up to the site.

If I were going by myself and you were ok with only being there Saturday Night and Sunday morning, I might consider picking you up at a BART station in the east bay around Oakland or Berkley. *shrugs*
I do not know if I'll be attending yet.

If you have never been to a MOM event then you owe yourself this treat, it has become something that I so look forward to each year, to meet friends you have never seen before.

Only one person said that he would make it on Friday afternoon. We emailed back and forth and decided that the two of us would be talked out before anyone else arrived on Saturday, hence we have decided to have the MoM for only two days. Note that we will be beginning on Saturday, instead of Friday.
2010 West Coast MoM
Saturday, June 19 to Sunday, June 20
In a rural area near Healdsburg, CA
(an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge)
The site has plenty of parking space for camping trailers and RVs. There is a grassy area for anyone who'd like to bring a tent and sleeping bag. There are motels about 10 minutes away in Healdsburg (and cheaper motels in Windsor, about 20 minutes away). Guerneville, a small town with the third highest percentage of gay and lesbian residents of any census tract in the U.S. is 15 miles (and 40 minutes by winding rural roads) away from the site. It's another 15 miles (and 25 minutes) from Guerneville to Jenner, on the coast at the mouth of the Russian River.
The average daily high for the period is 88° and the average nightly low is 53°. These are "average" and it's possible to have days that reach 100° or have the fog roll in from the coast and the night drop down to the low 40s. Rain is highly unlikely, though has been known to happen. (Average for the entire month of June is about a tenth of an inch,
which we have already passed for this wet year

For further information, send a <Private Message> to Jesus. Include your regular email address to which attachments (including a PDF map to the site) can be sent. More details will be forthcoming when we get to within a couple of months of the dates.

At this point we have 8 people (plus a tentative) that we're expecting for the MoM. There's still time to make plans for the 19th and 20th. Let me know if you'd like to come and I can send a map to the event to any email address that accepts attachments.

I'm heading up the 101 from Ventura through the city. I can pick up my fellows along the way and would enjoy the company so let me know. Steve

Only a few more days to go! Today we got everything cleaned up and ready for everyone to arrive. There are places to sit and talk inside and outside, both in the sun and in the shade. The grass is mowed and ready for tents. There are activities beyond talk planned and available.
The menu is planned (though the food shopping will be on Friday).
The weather should be cooperating. The highs on Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be in the mid 80s with the overnight low about 50. Fog is not expected, but can always roll in from the coast. A windbreaker or light jacket will probably be a good idea.
I'm looking forward to a great time.

I am so sorry that I missed this MOM. You know how much I value the MOM's and all the great people that attend them.
Hope we have added some more great people to the MOM club.

It was a great MoM. As many of you know, we had planned to start on Friday and run through Sunday, then because of low attendance we cut it back to just two days. What many of you may not know is that we actually wound up starting on Friday after all.
After receiving an email from Jesus that three people were coming up on Friday to set up camp before sunset, and that they would be having breakfast in downtown Healdsburg I decided to come up early as well.
It was a nice drive up to Healdsburg with a passenger to keep me company. We got to the property just before sunset and made camp. I will admit that I wimped out slightly and chose to set up my tent on the deck and not on the lawn... Everyone was sure the deck was too hard and I would have a better nights sleep on the lawn.
The local wether forecast was perfect and there was no need to put up the rain fly on the tent. I woke up a few times and regretted not bringing along the air mattress as the deck was a bit hard, and I contemplated moving my tent over to the lawn. Then about 5 AM there was a sound.... SPRINKLERS

In the morning some of the camper's thing were a little damp but after some coffee all was right with the world. Fortunately the sprinklers only come on once a week so the next night should be fine...
I have to say no ones spirits were dampened all that much. We all had a very good time, and enjoyed each other's company and some of the local wine, including some very rare pinot noir on tap at our campsite.
I am sorry more people could not make it to this years West Coast MoM 2.0 If it was because of the economy I hope things will be better next year and that you can all come and have a great time. If it was because of the sleeping outside in the weather, I am pretty sure they will get that sprinkler thing worked out by next year and hopefully some additional accommodations. I have to say that even with the artificial rain it was a very fine MoM indeed.

While it was a small MoM, with only seven of us (plus dogs), I think that everyone had a good time. I'm sure that Stevenoo's two large black dogs enjoyed finding the swimming hole down at the creek....
For the most part, we sat around eating, drinking and talking. Some of us went on a wine tasting expedition to a couple of the nearby wineries. The weather was a bit cooler than normal for the season, but still pleasant for sitting out on the deck and looking at the scenery.
I know that I'll be making plans to see some of the group again soon, since they live nearby and were great fun to talk with.
Next up is the Midwest MoM near Minneapolis on August 5-8.
Following that will be an evening gathering in London (
http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthr ... 080&page=3) on Sunday, August 22nd.
There's time for you to make plans to attend one (or both) of them!

I suppose my lack of attendance could be related to the economy. I'm in retraining now, because since I moved back to California I've found finding an adequate job difficult. So, off to retrain I went, and that's taking up all my free time. *ugh*
I'm glad to hear that those who attended had a good time.
Perhaps I can get to the next one. I'd like to meet you all.

Thank you Jesus for hosting the MOM at your vineyard. It was so nice to camp on the lawn, talk with new friends, enjoy delicious meals and just hang around. Thanks for accepting or tolerating my dogs. It seems they fit in with the others there, except for the cats. I do hope the cats came out from hiding after we left. And thanks to your daughter for her hosting efforts and to her son for playing ball and being a neat kid. You were quite a gracious and generous host. Thank you, Steve
