West Coast MoM II The sequel....

Well... How's about it?
I'm going to recommend the Bay Area though since there is so much to see here. Lots of Parks and Museums. Santa Cruz with it's boardwalk, Historic Sacramento. Maybe we could all rent a camping sight and have an outdoor sleep over. We could sit around the campfire and tell tall tales and ghost stories while we make s'mores. In the morning we could make pancakes with home made sweet butter
Jema
I'm going to hijack Jema's post to put the date and place at the top of this thread:
Our date and place are 99% certain. (There are 9 months to go, so something strange might happen between now and then.)
Only one person said that he would make it on Friday afternoon. We emailed back and forth and decided that we would be talked out before anyone else arrived on Saturday, hence we have decided to have the MoM for only two days. Note that we will be beginning on Saturday, instead of Friday.
2010 West Coast MoM
Saturday, June 19 to Sunday, June 20
In a rural area near Healdsburg, CA
(an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge)
The site has plenty of parking space for camping trailers and RVs. There is a grassy area for anyone who'd like to bring a tent and sleeping bag. There are motels about 10 minutes away in Healdsburg (and cheaper motels in Windsor, about 20 minutes away). Guerneville, a small town with the third highest percentage of gay and lesbian residents of any census tract in the U.S. is 15 miles (and 40 minutes by winding rural roads) away from the site. It's another 15 miles (and 25 minutes) from Guerneville to Jenner, on the coast at the mouth of the Russian River.
The average daily high for the period is 88° and the average nightly low is 53°. These are "average" and it's possible to have days that reach 100° or have the fog roll in from the coast and the night drop down to the low 40s. Rain is highly unlikely, though has been known to happen. (Average for the entire month of June is about a tenth of an inch.)
For further information, send a <Private Message> to Jesus. Include your regular email address to which attachments (including a PDF map to the site) can be sent. More details will be forthcoming when we get to within a couple of months of the dates.

You need to see Paolo's facebook page to see that sweet butter that Riverwind made. Honestly, it looked more like hazardous waste.

Is that what we're calling what Riverwind makes - sweet "butter". Hmm... no thanks.
If there is a west coast MOM, I'll be there since the locations mentioned above are workable for me.

Jema and I have begun the process of planning a MoM in the North Bay, about an hour from the Golden Gate Bridge. We are shooting for sometime in late spring, after the end of the rainy season.
The tentative plan is for a site with room for tents and camping vehicles, with motels not too far away. The site is comfortable and will accommodate more people than we've had at any MoM yet.
Riverwind has family in the area and might be persuaded to join us in the West. Paolo is "considering" a trip west in the spring. Bobbie and OBB made it out to the first West Coast MoM.
We'll start a new thread for the MoM as soon as we have a date chosen for it. Start saving your pennies for a trip, probably in June.

If you can talk Paolo into coming, I'll try to come down from Portland.

I'll be looking for the date. Last Westcoast MoM was in October. Please give enough notice for the overworked yet underemployeed, the overworked and underpaid, and overworked and underappreciated, and overworked and overextended. And the poor planners such as myself, that when given freetime and an open schedual still never seems to have enough spare tme to do all the things that should be done.

OK, right now, if "I" get on a plane to go to the west coast, spending probably 10 hours without a cigarette, I am assuring you of one thing - the 11 year old is coming with me so he can visit Jesus' grandson. I only intend to "go west old man" ONCE in my life! And somehow, I don't think you all want the boy around...
As for the butter picture, maybe we can talk the Nun into letting us host it on the server just ONE time...

I'll tell you what. If you can convenience Paolo to come out West for the meeting, I'll give serious consideration to attending. And if River's going to be there, I'd love to see him take another crack at that so called "butter" I've heard so much about.
I would love to meet some of the West Coast members.

You don't want to really see that butter. I seriously think it was hazardous waste.

Being known for my culinary delights if I can make it out there for the west coast MOM I will make my pancakes and have real homemade butter for it.
Some of the best dishes are from a mistake that turns out to be wonderful. And like that ugly duckling that Paolo whats to post the finished product is a swan.
If I come out there, do I have to see my family? Can't I just slip in and out without them knowing?
River.

I have to doubt very seriously that we could afford to make another trip like that one years ago. I am not so sure me and the kittens want to endure the agony of traveling that far in close quarters.

I tasted the 'accidental butter'. It WAS good, all kidding aside.

Daughter plans to have a couple of milch goats by spring. We'll see if River can whip up a batch of goat butter for us.

I will get my sister to give me her recipe for scones. They are best when served with homemade butter. That salty wax from the super market is no comparison.

I am toward the end of my summer canning season, and I made some plum jam that I can bring to the event. Why does it have to be so far South? Why not Oregon or Washington?

Why not Oregon or Washington?
The West Coast MoMs have moved about. The first one was in Portland, Oregon. There were then a couple of informal gatherings at the home of MacTheWolf. KenSD and Plix then hosted a formal gathering in San Diego as the second "official" West Coast MoM.
We're moving north again with a plan for the San Francisco area. Maybe the following one can be in Portland or Seattle. We just need a local to do the arrangements.

San Fran would be wonderful. I would save the city for when enough people want travel out.

Many of my best friends are San Franciscans. Er, okay. Whatever. That aside I probably could just take the bus from here which is almost a straight line from where I'm at. I would prefer Reno or Carson City or Elko, Nevada though.

I think the SF bay area makes a lot of sense. Jesus has a great location and there is so much interesting stuff in the area. This part of California is a very historic place, and of course the new stuff is nice to.
Besides last time was San Diego and before that it was in Portland. It wouldn't be nice to skip over the middle twice

Not to mention the San Francisco bay area is the 5th largest metropolitan area in the United States. That should simply be enough - the odds are increased interested people would be close by.
From a marketing view, you need to figure out where the people likely to attend are living, and pick a central location. All this, "I can't travel because it is so far from where I live, so have it where I live..." stuff should be irrelevant to the decision.
It should be as centrally located as possible to allow for the highest number of attendees. If you're looking to get people from Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State, and California, San Francisco bay area or environs is a good place to set it up. Easy airport access for distant travelers, and fairly centrally located for the largest part of the population.
Face it, someone will have to travel, and it's not like we're saying this is dinner and a movie, or something.

Carson City? Reno? Elko? How about Needles?
No...my vote is for San Francisco a beautiful city that everyone should visit at least once.

Camping? In the N. Cal Bay Area in June? This is almost like free castration as you'll freeze your balls off. Better bring a parka and zero down sleeping bag. Campfire? Aren't we destroying the environment enough with CO2 from autos and factories. Why burn a dead tree needlessly. And the smoke gets in your eyes and lungs and for those of with health issues, not a good thing. There are numerous "relaxed sexuality" businesses in the bay area that might be happy to give a group rate on rooms. I can't afford luxury vacations, but if spending the time and money I desire comforts that at least equal being at home. Schedule problems made me miss the one in Escondido (darn it). Environmental conditions would preclude me from attending the proposed future meeting. Not complaining mind you, just expressing what doesn't work for me.

Hmm, have you ever been to White sea (camping)? In the middle of august? That is really freezing your balls off.

My GF is the same way. She has to have a functioning toilet. Me, I just need a place to go where my ass won't get attacked by insects when seated. What about renting a trailer. I don't mind pulling a rented trailer a few miles.
