Moving

Yes, come the end of March I will be moving, about 150ft from where I am now.

I live in a trailer park and the place I am in I rent, my landlady does not make repairs, I offered to buy the place at a good price for her, she wanted twice that, or three times what it is worth. So I am moving because as luck would have it there is a duplex on the site and one of those is now empty so I rented it, I am as close to Talula's house after the move as I am now just in a different direction. Anyway I most likely will be off line for several days while we get everything connected and set up, moved in etc.

I hate moving but its time that's for sure, the hardest part will be moving the fish tanks, the two small ones will be easy, take out most of the water, carry them over put water back in and not even disturb the fish, however the 55 gal and 100 gal will be a full day project, We need to set up spare tanks and move the big fish, then empty and remove all the water and rock from them, move them and the stands, set them back up, put in the rock and plants and water, put the fish back, empty and remove the temp holding tanks, it will take all day to move just the fish. The dogs and Rupert will take a couple minutes.

Rupert knows something is going on and is not happy about it, he wants more attention then he does normally, the two dogs are, well, dogs. But Rupert is upset and will be until I move his cat tree to the new place then move him, once he sees that he will know we have moved and its OK.

I will keep you all updated until I am off line then again when I get back.

This will not effect the MOM event or its location.

Moving is always a job. BUT, it is a good time to get rid of those things you no longer need or was wanting to get rid of. You can usually end up with a little more room. Hope the pets don't get to upset.

Ah.... moving. I've done quite a bit of that in my 40 years.

Let's see, California, Wyoming, California, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, California. I hope I don't do it again for a while, though since I'm living in your old city out here, I doubt I'll stay forever though it's not because River used to live here but is instead for reasons I suspect are why River left it in the first place.

Only once have I moved an animal. I flew with him out to California on this last move. He was surprisingly quiet on the plane, then he was uncomfortable in his new house for two months until I went back east to pick up all the stuff from the old house. Like Rupert, once he saw his cat tree, suddenly life was good.

He's also a happier cat now that he has free reign to go outside which he never had when he lived elsewhere. He was previously an indoor cat. Now he's almost never in the house but is enjoying life outside doing what cats do.

Rupert is an indoor in the winter and outdoor in the summer cat, but his territory will be the same even after the move so he will be fine, and as you say once he sees his cat tree, he will be fine.

Now if the 4.8" of snow we got today clears off, :-\

Be sure to save up for the move. It could get expensive going 150 ft. Try not to take it all at once. Might be a three day journey. Get rest and don't drive when you're tired.

LOL.

Sorry to hear the landlady is being a bit of a price gouger on the apt. but it's equally nice that something else opened up.

Rent a giant truck from U-Haul. That way you don't actually need to "pack" . You just move a room into the truck and take it to the new place. Here they're $40 a day. Oh, and U-Haul also pimps able bodied movers.

You got by easy. Here we got about 8 inches of heavy wet stuff. Blew up my 8HP snowblower today - damn. At least I still have the 4HP honda. OTOH my brother gets to plow about 12 inches up north. Looking forward to spring! Cmon May.

You moving this weekend? Tax time, but if I can get away, I'll head over.

Should have scheduled an early MoM and you would have had all the help you needed.

Does this mean we won't have any more tales of Talula crashing through your rotted front porch? I look forward to seeing you in your new place at the next MoM. We'll wear a track from your place to Tal's, if there isn't one already worn into the grass.

Kristoff, my two able bodied sons will be doing the heavy stuff, I will be mostly packing tubs and unpacking them. Thanks for the offer I hope it will be around the 3rd he is still fixing the place so the date is still a bit unclear.

Jesus, that's one of the reasons I am moving, the porch finally totally gave way last Aug, she still has not fixed it, when I told her that was one of the reasons I was moving she said "HOW do you expect me to fix the porch when there is snow on the ground?" I said, there was not snow on the ground in Aug, Sept, Oct, or Nov what is your excuse then? that you could not do it because it was to hot?"

Like I said, I figure two days to move everything and set everything back up and then the third day, the FISH TANKS.

The move is on, the stuff in the sheds have been moved to the basement, tomorrow Thursday we will start moving stuff over, bookcases and the books, most of the kitchen, end tables, tubs that have already been filled, then empty them and do it again, the light stuff, Friday we will move the heaver stuff, and sometime Saturday or for sure Sunday the computers will be moved and we will be off line for a few days. OMG, off line. I am starting to get the shakes already.

Its not going to be a bad move, except for those fish tanks.

Hope your move is as painless as possible and your new home, more better.

Truthfully, I like trailer parks as opposed to sharing a wall. Of course out here they are called mobile home parks. But, like Canada or France - they carry lots of fodder for humor, ref. Alaska thread.

Happy New Home to You, River

The book cases and books have been moved, plus most of the kitchen and a lot of little stuff, end tables etc. I am totally wiped.

This morning my landlady called me and said, "how soon are you going to be out because I am moving in, I am going to start bringing stuff over today."

I said it would take me until Sunday to be out and she could move in after that.

She gets all upset and said I have to be out today its the end of the month.

Yes Mary I know that but the place I am moving into was not finished until today so it is going to take me a few days to get moved.

Then she tells me how unacceptable this is, and demanded rent until I am out. I said fine I will prorate it out and she said NO< I want $50.00 a day. I laughed, and said try $20. NO she screams, 50 a day or be out by the end of the day.

I said, NO I would not be out until at least Sunday, but with her attitude it might not happen until Tuesday and as for paying well I am sure we will work something out.

She is so upset, she cant even talk and said, YOU WILL PAY ME 50 DOLLARS A DAY AND THAT IS FINAL,

I hung up the phone.

I will be out by Sunday or Monday for sure, well at least by Tuesday and she will get nothing from me, PISS ME OFF she gets nothing.

And she can deal with the missing porch, the electric that is out on one wall including the over head in my kitchen, the sink that is stopped up so bad we have been using buckets to empty the water down the toilet, speaking of which its falling through the floor and that just part of the problems.

She has never cleaned up the trash in the yard and now there is even more, from the porch, she is so bad she gives trailer trash a bad name.

You might give her a "farewell gift" on your very last hour in the house... get some plaster-o-paris and dump a bag of it into each toilet and FLUSH it immediately... it will harden and CLOG the drain like hell forever just a few feet from the toilet.

As a landlord myself, I know the things that really keep me awake at night, that really worry me. One of the absolute worst things to happen to any house is an undetected slow pinhole leak in any pressurized water pipe, especailly if it is high up in a wall somewhere. Everyone knows that fire can destroy a house in minutes, but water rots wood and drywall, and fosters mold, and if it is undetected, it can cost thousands to fix all the rotted structure.

OH, not that I would ever suggest that you ever do anything so evil...😄

You could always tell her to start eviction proceedings....they take about 90 days before you get booted. Just keep living there :)

You know, I don't need to plug the drain, its already plugged, and as for rot, that's already happening, plus the leaks around all the windows, the black mole growing in the closet, I don't need to do anything, its already done and I did not do any of it, that's the best part.

The place I live nothing happens that everybody in the park does not know about it within an hour. Last night a neighbor came over to tell me that Mary was so upset about me hanging up on her and wanted the full story. So I figured I would tell her. 😄 I suggested just that, that it might take me a week or more to get out and that I was never going to pay her a dime more. I know this got back to Mary in about 30 minutes. :D Next is to go after my security deposit which is in a joint account that requires both our signatures to get the money. 😄

OH Happy Days in SUN SHINE Trailer park. 🙄

The only ones really upset by this move are my pets, Rupert and Nellie know something bad is happening, things keep leaving the house, like yesterday Rupert's cat tree went, today I am going to take the kids over to the new place.

Well if there is CODE violations and there are, just call the inspectors. If the toilet is falling through the floor, and then the electrical problems they may say fix it now, or we will condemn the house and demolish it.

OHHHHHH! I REALLY wish I lived somewhere close by... the FUN I could have with your landlady on this "April Fool's Day"....

What you need.... is a "confederate," not an old soldier of the south you know, but someone willing to pose as one thing that they in fact are not.... For example, your landlady would probably just LOVE to see someone who is filthy rich, and wants to rent your place, and is ready to pay twice what you are paying for it.... VOILA! IF I were close by, I would just LOVE to show up in a rented sports car, pretending to be a retired "dot com millionaire" who simply adores the place and needs a quiet hide out.... "I would be willing to pay very handsomely for you discretion madam." Or some such other bullshit story...

River, do you know any good actors who live nearby? Maybe you could call up the local "community theatre" or some where. Get someone who can pull off the charade, drop by the bitchy landlady's place, act like they are some sort of filthy rich person who simply has to rent that place... get to old bitch to thinking that she has a new "cash cow" renter already to move in IN TWO WEEKS.... So she will all but get off your back, and be counting all the new money she (thinks) she will be taking in.

By the way, I LOVE to watch "Punk'd" and other such TV programs where people are fooled in one way or another. Use you head a bit and I am sure you can somehow mess with the greedy bitch's mind, get her to thinking her ship has come in and she has no worries with you because some ultra-rich guy is ready to pre-pay for one year so he can have a place to hide out from his wife or something.

That is tempting, thanks.

The kitchen is done, this must be the worst room in the house to move, it just never seems to end but its done. I have been working in the bedroom all afternoon, curtins are down cloths moved, dressers moved, desk moved, cable and cat5 removed, bed taken down, (must be put back up or I don't have a bed tonight), its an air bed so its really easy to set up and take down.

The good news is Comcast will be here Sunday between 10 and noon to connect me to the world wide web. YES :D picked up a router today and had talula set it up for me. its been a long day so far and still have several hours to go.
