Hello IEunuch, Yes I have had consistent difficulties with the chatroom for about a month now.
I am timed out after 5 minutes. I have tried many times to type in the sentence in the start up menu but has no effect.
Whilst in the chatroom the two button top right do not function.
Any suggestions please?
Kyle

Is there a way to join the chat without having to use java within a web browser? Can I do it with an irc client? If I can, what information do I need (server address/ip address/etc)?

Yes, you absolutely can use an IRC client. You're going to want to connect to: darkstar1.tzo.com, port 6667.

I have not been able to log into the chat room for some months now...
All I get is the following 5 lines of message:
[11:00] Connecting...
[11:00] Logging in...
[11:00] --*** If you are having problems connecting due to ping timeouts, please type /notice xxxxxxxxxxx nospoof now.
[11:00] Error: Closing Link: Luke[
[email protected]] (K-Lined: Luke - Assisertative Lissathropy)
[11:00] Disconnected from Darkstar1.tzo.com
(note: I edited the IP info from the feedback for security reasons)
WTF is going wrong? Is this in my computer or is the chatroom broken?

Ah yes... 'Assisertative Lissathropy'... we get that one popping up every so often. Unfortunately it means that at some point you broke (badly) one of the rules we have in the chatroom, and so were banned from it.

Oh, dear... it would be nice to at least know what rule I might have broken. Though not a prolific user of the chat, I thought that I had been a complete gentleman when visiting. Don't recall ever having the slightest disagreement or confrontation with anyone, nor do I spam. How would one appeal this, make ammends or at least find out what I did that was so bad?

I'm having a similar issue and never had issues before. My error reads:

I was allowed to sign on as recent as last month.

It's also possible that you have an IP number close to one that got banned at one time, and that ban took 'you' out too, in addition to the one it was supposed to ban. Just a thought for IE there to consider.

What did I tell ya, it's fixed already. See, IEunuch is a genius. Paolo and Kristoff aren't slouches either.
And they said I shouldn't have taken that Brown-nosing 101 class

The problem should be fixed now.... at least I think it should be. Let me know if it's not.
And today's little bit of offline was due ot a power outage. Don't know why it went out, but it did.

For the last week, I keep getting 'connection timed out' errors, on both the thruhere and darkstar addresses, on both my computer and my phone - is this just me?

Also can't connect, for the last week or more, using darkstar1.tzo.com:6667. No console messages, just connection failure. Is the whole system down, or is it just me?

My cat never ate the server, Rupert was innocent I tell you, he stepped on the power strip and turned it off.

The system is alive and fine. I think my ISP is blocking 6667 for some strange reason. I'm not quite sure why. Try it at port 7000, and you should be able to get in fine.

I installed the latest Java ( 11 I think) and I couldn't get into the chat room. I used the restore to earlier key to get it back to what it was. Try that?

I have the latest Java update in XP Pro, and when I go to the chat page, I get a warning that there are security issues with the plugin, click here to fix it, yet there is no link to click - just plain text.
I'd say the last Java update has issues. If you need to get into the chat, I'd say do a system restore (if you are able) to a time before this last Java update.
In MY COMPUTER->CONTROL PANEL->JAVA, you can open that file and see the date of the last update. Roll back to a time before that update, and if it was working then, it should work again. BE ADVISED THAT ANYTHING YOU SAVED AFTER THAT POINT IN TIME TO A MONITORED DRIVE WILL BE ERASED IF YOU DO!

There is a new format to acknowledge a security issue. It now requires a click in the center of the screen, on the button. And sometimes another security warning comes up. If you accidentally click To Block the suspicious site, you are S.O.L. until your next computer clean up.
