Avatar Pictures Issues

First, I am really happy to see so many people posting pics for avatars. I just have a couple of comments.
1. Due to a limitation in the board software I can only specify one dimension for size of avatar pics. The result is that some pictures end up more square than a tall rectangle.
When I read the posts it's not very visually appealing when the pics don't line up well -- some go in, some go out.
If at all possible I would appreciate users keeping avatars within these dimensions:
140 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall
2. This is a person preference of Bryan, not 'Bboy' so this is not any kind of administrative hint.
Personally I would prefer to see more real, non-nude pictures used for avatars. Something that would show your face, even if you do like Paolo and I (and it's done on quite a few other boards too) a picture of your younger self up if you are concerned about being recognized from a current picture.
I am not suggesting that anyone change their avatar. Please be clear on that.
I am just expressing my opinion as a 'user' rather than an 'administrator'

I hope my own current avator fits your requirements. If not, perhaps I can get my brother to come up with something better?
Andrew your current one is 150x196 pixel. Which is better than mine at 166x139 or Paolo's at 145x249.

Well I like to view nude photos, however it makes it difficult to view the board at work, if if other people are around. I worry too much about someone catching me at work, or at home and other people are around.
Nude photos are better to be posted as an attachment when appropriate.
Well that's just my 2 cents worth.

That's why I use baby pictures. The odds of Granny being online and seeing it are slim to none.

Good work Paolo.
However, maybe she didn't want to be un-blurred.

It took me forever to make a Pic fit. I am a Photograph Nut, I demand only Clear High density photos, and when I put them on the web, I usually use a 300 Pixel per inch format, and have used 3600 X 3600 Pixel per inch photos that are intended to be highly enlarged.
Unfortunately, the scanner I use needs some reprogramming, It was damaged by a Photo company that I decided not to keep or pay for their Enhanced image package, so they made it so all Flesh tones get darkened, to the point that it makes me as dark as many African Americans.
If memory serves me, I think I settled for 72 pixels per inch for my Pic.

The JPG compression has more to do with photo/picture quiality than the pixel density, but more pixels in a photo the better, but that is only good for good photos/pictures only an out of focus, poor compistion photo is going to look bad even if it is 29000 dpi! For good photos for the web 1) You have to have a GOOD image to start with. For the WEB your image DPI should be set for 72 DPI. The size of Avatar images, will print a good quality 2 by 3 print.
Steps to get a good Avatar.
1) Find a good Photo
2) Scan the print or negative at a high DPI, 300 dip or greater for prints, max optical resolution for the negative scan.
3) Crop the image
4) Color correct, and enhance the image
5) Use Photo Shop, Paint Shop, or Ulead to rescan the image to 140 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall.
6) Save as a TIF, then resave as a JPG
7) View the JPG, if it looks bad, reload the TIF and change to compression settings and resave. Repleat until happy with the quality of the JPG image.
8) Post the Avatar.

If anyone has a pic they'd like to use for an avatar but just can't seem to get it to work, I'm pretty handy with my Paint Shop Pro and would be happy to get it to the proper size for you.
By the way, in my avatar, the scruffy monster was me, the beautiful lady was "Covy." I miss her with all my heart ...
