Near Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN

manyclr:
The MoM is an annual gathering of members of the Eunuch Archive community. All members who visit here are invited to attend. This is your chance to meet face-to-face with those folk whose posts you have been reading and with whom you have exchanged private messages.
EVENT SCHEDULE (to be filled in as planning progresses):
Thursday evening, August 22 (for those who arrive early for the event)
BBQ at the Convent - AKA The Good Sister's Backyard
Friday, August 23
Day to explore the local sights/sites (suggestions available from locals)
Some of us are planning an excursion to the Minnesota State Fair
(see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-5Lr2IhB_o for a preview of the day)
(talula adds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HFdQ9O8drA for proper State Fair song to get the blood flowing)
Dinner at a local restaurant (TBA)
Saturday, August 24 - the main day of the MoM
All day at the Mothership (the new home of Gem and Talula - different location, same hospitality - about 20 miles south of their previous home)
Sunday, August 25
Riverwind's "World Famous" pancake breakfast followed by camaraderie
Some will head home during the day; others will party & leave on Monday
As we get much closer to the event, more details (including maps and a list of those planning to attend) will be provided. We will need an email address from each person planning to attend, an email that will accept attachments so that we can send the maps, etc.
A number of folk will be staying in the same motel (about 12 blocks from the Mothership).
To get on the list for further information, send a <PRIVATE MESSAGE> to Riverwind or to Jesus
(Click on the name at the left and select "Send private message" from the drop down menu.).
Maps and other information about the MoM will be sent to those who send a request to either River or me.
Further information will be added to this post as we get closer to the event.

Only two months left to go. I'll be arriving at the Minneapolis airport on the afternoon of August 21st. Paolo should be arriving a bit before I do. Dinner with the local crew has yet to be planned, but there's always something simple and informal. Paolo and I usually "help" Kristoff to prepare for the BBQ at the Convent on Thursday night when the festivities get under way.
If you haven't made your plans yet, you do need to get started. Motel rooms and campgrounds tend to fill during the summer season. Floor space for a sleeping bag can probably be found at the last minute, but planning is required for anything fancier than that.
We look forward to seeing a great crew of good people there.....

I'm thinking the cold cauliflower salad again, heavier on bacon and dill.

I'm all packed and ready to go!
Socks, underwear, shirts, shorts, just in case it does hit 90F and they're not lying to me.
Hoodie, chargers, electronic cigarettes & refills, vitamins and allergy pills just in case, what else?
I guess anything I forget, I can buy when I'm there.

They revised the forecast for later this week to mid 80s, humid, and chance of some rain on Wednesday

I got out my suitcase and put all of my clothes in it, in preparation for final packing. My cat discovered the warm, freshly washed socks and underwear and immediately jumped in. He spent the entire day asleep in the middle of it. I couldn't decide whether he was telling me not to go or telling me he wanted to go with me.

I'll take that to mean that pictures will be allowed. It will be nice to preserve memories of my first MoM.

We do take pictures of those that attend with two conditions, one that you allow it and two that they are kept private among the people at the mom.

RE photos - Keep in mind that this is a social gathering, it is not a show and tell, so photos are welcome with the OK of the subject. --FLO--

This is my first one so it's worth saying: No I wasn't expecting otherwise at all. I decided to give it a try because this is an interesting site, many of the members seem like interesting people, it's an opportunity to learn about something not ordinarily discussed at family dinners and it sounds like a fun time judging by all the posts about MoM. Besides I enjoy occasionally getting away by myself. Thanks for the opportunity to say so. I'd bet you old time EAers wonder about the motivation of new comers.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever gotten naked at a MOM, or done anything that is going to come back and haunt them later in life.

Almost true. There was that dinner in the back room of Ye Olde Hogge Trough where the Red Nun and the Dark Overlord got into a battle with light sabers. Every kid in the restaurant was hanging in the doorway, wanting to join us. Every staff member of the restaurant, kitchen crew included, found an excuse to pass through the room.

BUT it should, we had so much fun that night not caring who watched and many did mostly kids who loved it wishing to join in.

Sometimes life is sometimey.
For some time, I have been going about making the proper effort to arrive at the MoM region tomorrow.
Some time earlier today, I put some time into determining for the final time before leaving tomorrow for the MoM that my wife has recovered sufficiently from her hip re-replacement surgery last November that she could safely get out of our house during an emergency situation of the sort no one ever wants while I would be putting some time into getting to, being at, and returning from, this year's MoM.
It took me some time today to accept that she is not yet sufficiently recovered from her surgery for it to be safe enough for me to spend some time this week and weekend far from her at the MoM.
Alas, her safety needs will keep me from putting some time into being at a MoM until sometime next year.
Sometimes, life is sometimey sad for me.
Life is a sometime thing?

I can hardly wait.
I need to escape my life for a few days with good people, and a relaxed environment. MoM 2012 did that for me last year, and I really need it this year.
See you all tomorrow!
