Statement didn't show in your post N.E. so I just did a copy of the text from the WPATH website.
WPATH STATEMENT REGARDING EXECUTIVE ORDER
“PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM CHEMICAL AND SURGICAL MUTILATION”
January 28, 2025
We are disappointed with this latest executive order. Policies that restrict or ban access to
necessary medical care for transgender youth are harmful to patients and their families.
Transgender youth need comprehensive, individualized, family-based care from
multidisciplinary teams. Healthcare decisions should be made by patients, families, and their
healthcare professionals, guided by evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and
individual needs rather than government mandates.
Asa Radix, MD, PhD, MPH, WPATH President
And the WPATH Board of Directors
This is a political "hot potato" as you said, and I appreciate you recognizing that it is... However it is relevant to our community to some degree, so I thought it was worth posting.
HOWEVER, I WILL BE WATCHING THIS THREAD CLOSELY! Please keep any responses very close to this topic, and stay polite (even if it's difficult

) if it gets to be to divisive, I will delete posts and / or close the thread as it seems necessary...

I don't consider this political at all. A human beings existence and right to live how they wish to is NOT political.
I'm quite disappointed in WPATH's statement. Not that they made it, mind you, but it's about the most watered down, milquetoast response to this they could have done. They need to be fighting, not engaging in platitudes. Why? Because those who are beating on us as a collective community will yawn at such statements and just keep doing what they're doing to harm us.
Sometimes I wonder if these folks have the guts to fight. This statement clearly shows they yet have to get the message.

I don't disagree with your sentiment NG, as I totally agree that how one wishes to live (so long as it does not harm others) should not be political...
I'd also add that the statement was pretty weak, but I don't know that we would have gotten any better results with a stronger one, given that statements are just words.... I've had a lot of involvement in other organizations that have made stronger statements, and those statements didn't change much, but cranking out large numbers of voters DOES... (I think there is a strong argument that the 2nd Amendment stances of the two parties had a big impact on the recent election)
However I could easily see this thread turning into discussion about the people doing the beating and making statements rather than the question of what should be done, and that gets political quite fast, which is what I want to keep under control.
It does not in any way reduce the badness, nor should it discourage anyone from taking action as individuals, but in some ways this has limited relevance to this site and it's members... As long standing policy (and avoiding legal difficulties) we are adult focused, and don't directly have anything to do with minors.... As far as I can tell the executive order in question did not apply to adults, so doesn't impact us. It also seems the Eunuch Chapter in SOCv8 is adult focused, and I didn't see any mention in the Care for Children Chapter of how to deal with an M-E child as opposed to one wanting to do the full binary switch...
Obviously since we don't knowingly allow minors to register (and of course nobody ever lies about their age

) we can't offer help directly. I'm not sure what we would do if a parent came on asking for support in dealing with their M-E child, I don't know if there ever was a situation like that on EAv2, I don't remember one. My inclination would be to try to help but what we could suggest would be very limited....

I agree with both of you. This isn't a political topic, per-se. This is about a basic right to exist and be recognized. However, I do see Wheely's concern about this thread potentially turning into a political dumpster fire.
That being said, I almost posted a similar thread, but was mulling it over. Now that this thread is up, I think it can be discussed in an adult fashion if focus on the topic rather than the personalities is pursued.

That's why I used a reserved and generalized, "they" are beating on us as a collective community and not mentioning the specific who, as I think that's quite obvious. Having been a moderator of the former site, I understand this political sensitivity quite acutely and made the statement as neutrally as I possibly could.
