Alternative to castration to lower/lose sex drive

I'm using Sertraline 100 mg and Risperidone 1mg for treating my Tourettes. They busted my sex drive to a point that I don't want to masturbate anymore. There's a feeling of necessity, but it seems caused by past addiction. I don't feel good to masturbate, even if I still get erections. On the other hand, my general energy is working very well. I've been using it for a little more than a month now. My tics are lowering a bit, btw.

I'm sharing this in case anyone seeks castration for lowering their libido. There are other ways to do it that will cause less hormonal problems. You should talk to a psychiatrist.

Of course, if you want castration for whatever other reason, then this doesn't apply to you, as you'll continue producing T, having erections, having your genitals, etc.

Sertraline at 1mg would be a very very very low dose. AFAIK it starts at 25mg in the U.S. are you getting a liquid form so you can dose that low?

But yea I agree if libido is the only complaint and medication is working great, there's no point to resort to surgery.

I am using 50mg of another SSRI and that has also lessened my sex drive. I may masturbate every six months to a year, mainly to see if things still work,

1 gram (1000 milligrams) is beyond the therapeutic limit. Do you mean 100mg? The maximum daily dose is 200mg for those curious.

No worries. Happy to hear you’re not taking 5x the maximum suggested dose and walking around with serotonin syndrome. I just wanted to prevent confusion if someone got a 25-50mg dose prescribed.

In terms of SSRI’s, Zoloft/sertraline is usually considered one of the worst offenders, followed by Prozac/fluoxetine. Paxil/paroxitine is generally considered to be the highest risk (or most successful, depending on your perspective) for sexual dysfunction. It has the worst side effect profile of all SSRI’s and is tough for many to discontinue.

Risperidone is also well known also have sexual side effects along with the other first generation antipsychotics like Haldol. The atypical antipsychotics like Abilify, Seroquel, Latuda less so.
