vBulletin 3 "Gamma"

In case you haven't noticed (!) :-\ I have upgraded the vBulletin installation here to the latest version, "Gamma"

One of the negative side effects of this release is that it's the first with all of the new style(s) and templates that will come standard with vBulletin 3. The bad part is that they are all completely new and incompatible with the previous templates - so for those of you using the photo grays and stealth templates we will have to re-build those for you. Sorry for the inconvenience.

On the plus side, the new vB3 template makes it much easier to add templates to the system and I am sure there will be some awesome 3rd party templates that we will try out.

In the short term though the new default style is (I think) beautiful. We will work on restoring the EA logo (in a color scheme that matches, hopefully).

Thanks for your understanding and of course this is a great thread to discuss style likes and dislikes.

Wow. A harsh judgement. Care for a little more detail?

If you're running a high resolution monitor, you can go to your USER CP and select the style VB Grey. It'll fill the screen more and eliminate most of the annoying blue patterns. I'm still playing with it.;)

I also noticed that some of the smilies are now monochromatic. That's lovely...ðŸ”Ļ

I don't mind the change, in most respects. However, the #$%&*@ page no longer fits my screen, as it did before. Sure, sure, I know I can always change the resolution of my monitor, but then the type gets smaller.

Hopefully the Administrator can restore the resolution to what it was before, which displayed just right in 800 x 600. According to virtually every survey I've read, that particular resolution is the most widely-used.

Try it now.

That was MY fault.

1024x768 for me is not enough, therefore the new page was microscopic for me. I tweaked the WRONG template.

There is no way it was T.

We can't keep running the beta versions forever. People have to learn that nothing is always going to stay the same, its not always going to look like it used to look and they are going to have to get over it.

OK, let me rephrase that.ðŸĪŦ

After 2 hours of exploration and disasters, let me just say that THE CONTROL PANEL SUCKS!📖

The BOARD itself is fine now, at least on a higher resolution screen.

If anyone is having problems with it fitting, PLEASE let me know!ðŸ˜ŋ

Yep .. P did some work on his own special version of the style. I did some work too last night and if you look at the lower left corner of the page (scroll all the way down if you have to) there's a drop down box where you can choose which style you want to see the board in.

The options (right now) are:

VB 3 Gray Skin (the board default)

VB 3 Default Skin (the one I am using - light blue)

VB 3 Photo Gray (Paolo's masterpiece)

VB 3 Classic (purple)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I can now see nearly all the page without scrolling to the side. Much better. I know form experience just how long it takes to implement changes to a Website. The process of installing a new format may take a few minutes, but the "tweaks" usually take days, if not weeks. Keep at it.

Which template, and how big are the scroll bars?

What's your resolution, 800x600?

It will take some time to get used to some of the changes. I have the screen color selection box at the bottom of the screen, with the four choices, however it will not switch from the "Gray Skin" screen. Do I have to change a setting in my User CP? Also, the wider screens do not fit in the window.

I found the screen color selection in the User CP but it doesn't work either. It shows the four selections but keeps reverting back to "Use forum default". The only color that I can get is "Gray Skin". (note: User CP, Edit Options, Misc Options)

I tested that, and both ways work fine for me. Once you select one from the drop down box on the main VB page, it sticks.

What browser are you using? What version OS? PC or MACintrash?

You can email me that info in private if you like.🚎

And if you say AOL, I'm going to send Andrew over to beat you!ðŸ”Ļ

I made my screen color selection and then clicked "Save Changes". It locked in my selection for all forums. The selection box in the lower left corner of the individual forum screens still will not override it. I am using Windows XP.

New EA logos for all styles now in place (each logo color matches its associated style).

Feedback welcome.

Enjoy.

By the way, I like the new look and resolution. When the page is loading, the screen doesn't jump around like it used to. Change is a fact of live, and even cats have learned that sometimes you have to give in, even if "just barely".

Andrew, you are the only AOL user who seems to not have infinite problems with the site. That's why we love you so.👉

I wonder if that is because I am still on AOL 5.0, and most have converted to AOL 9.0?

I have been using AOL 9.0 for about a month now. Haven't had any site problems with either 8.0 or 9.0 except for the horizontal scroll with the current v-bulletin version at first. The screen is ok now and the scroll bars are gone from some, but not all, of the screens. I am using 1280 x 1024 resolution with the lavender screen.
