nullorchis,

It is hardly that cold anywhere in California in the month of June that you are going to freeze your ass off. The whether in the Bay Area is very mild even in the winter and by June is gets very warm. The evening can be chilly, but as you say best bring some warm clothes.

If anyone really hates the thought of roughing it out in the wild west civilization is just a hop skip and a jump away.
JesusA wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:05 am The tentative plan is for a site with room for tents and camping vehicles, with motels not too far away. The site is comfortable and will accommodate more people than we've had at any MoM yet.

Somebody told me that there actually is really nice camping right to the northwest of San Francisco. And I am no stranger to camping. Never argue with a bear or a skunk or somebody named... --ah, never mind. Is this where it's at? And I was also invited to a temple somewhere up that way too. I had once decided that I should somehow come up with health insurance and had figured out that San Francisco would be the place. --Was even thinking of buying an old boat at one of the marinas there and then renting a slip to stay at. But then after a little research I found out that boats are even more noisy, cramped, and colder than city life (makes sense) and so that's out. I love the city life and I could easily be out every night of the week at different places. But at last, big cities just don't seem to like ME and so here I stay out in the wilderness away from all the big cities. But since I have never been to San Francisco, I would love to go there for a few days though. And I'll TRY not to steal the show if I do go. It would probably be by Amtrak or by bus though unless I could persuade my chaperon to take me there.

You don't want to camp in San Francisco in the summer, remember the words of Mark Twain, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". But if you head north of the City about 40 miles or so it will be quite warm in June.

Whew! I thought you were going to scare everyone off :) My sister lives in Santa Rosa which is not very far away from Sonoma. Most of the whether information I can find states that typical temperatures in June range from a high of 86.0° F to evening lows 50.0° F.

June

Normal High: 80°F

Normal Low: 52°F

Normal Average: 66°F

Sounds like a very pleasant afternoon and just cold enough for a sweater or windbreaker in the evening.

I wonder if any of you would survive the Midwest MoM? It's T-shirts and short pants if it is 40 degrees or higher. I am going camping this weekend in Northern Minnesota - lows in the 40's at night - good weather - warm. Bringing along my swimsuit too.

Perhaps it would be good to get away from baking in that desert sun and enjoy the cool air the Bay Area has to offer!

It seems we did a summer USO in Yuma Proving grounds some years back, 124degress in the shade! I imagine these places are a paradise in the winter.

NOT! I lived there four years. Not paradise, but not a bad place if you are a desert rat and like to splash in water every chance you get.

Paradise, I live in that place now, its also known as western Wisconsin. I know others that live in Paradise like Jesus who has a wonderful home. Even my oldest son lives in Paradise, Paradise California (back in the gold rush days it was called Hell but after the gold ran out the people that stayed changed the name).

California has many nice places. The Bay Area, despite the millions, is beautiful, while the LA and Sacramento areas are well...pretty much gross. Take away those two major metropolitin areas, and few crummy valley towns and the whole state is a great playground, a paradise. Even the deserts, low and high, are a great destination now and then.

2010 West Coast MoM

Friday afternoon, June 18
jemagirl (imported) wrote: Thu Aug 20, 2009 8:51 am to Sunday, June 20

In a rural area near Healdsburg, CA

(an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge)

The site has plenty of parking space for camping trailers and RVs. There is a grassy area for anyone who'd like to bring a tent and sleeping bag. There are motels about 10 minutes away in Healdsburg (and cheaper motels in Windsor, about 20 minutes away). Guerneville, a small town with the third highest percentage of gay and lesbian residents of any census tract in the U.S. is 15 miles (and 40 minutes by winding rural roads) away from the site. It's another 15 miles (and 25 minutes) from Guerneville to Jenner, on the coast at the mouth of the Russian River.

The average daily high for the period is 88° and the average nightly low is 53°. These are "average" and it's possible to have days that reach 100° or have the fog roll in from the coast and the night drop down to the low 40s. Rain is highly unlikely, though has been known to happen. (Average for the entire month of June is about a tenth of an inch.)

For further information, send a <Private Message> to Jesus. Include your regular email address to which attachments (including a PDF map to the site) can be sent. More details will be forthcoming when we get to within a couple of months of the dates.

Guerneville is where my brother lived, yes he was a big part of the gay community. It is a beautiful area on the Russian River I do believe.

Couldn't we just barrow one of the tires from your car for a couple of days? :)

Guess I can skip the rainbow gathering to go to that unless of course it's out there next year. Wonder if we can get the Green Tortoise to make a trip out there from SF. That'd be kind of fun.

...well...I guess I could lend one of the tires off the roadster...since I ran the spare down to nothing, you could use one of the others. How exciting! But they are Z rated, directional, and the front/rear rims are different sizes. I just went round and round with the tire guy...such a sweety...so understanding...and at $190.00 per tire...can you say "Can I help you?" I sure can, and the next few days will. My knees are hurting already...

So, she is clean and classy. You would need to sign for responsibility, know how to drop the top, and change said tire with utmost care. If you tear the tire, damage the rim or otherwise leave a mess, there will be hell to pay!

No rednecks, greasy grimmy or grotties, and hear this "No Jungle Swingers", you tear my shit up and by god...

civilization...wouldn't a rope swing just be easier?

Maybe we could get Sarah to go over there and sway her just a wee bit. Afterall there's this thing about her grandchild and the father of her grandchild that she's had to have been having to come to terms with lately.
