I personally would like to see that ancient Roman castration device with all the carved fancies up close and personal. With a litel effort, I could be talked into trying it out and tieing it on, so to speak!

It keeps appearing on the home page and sparking my interest in it.

I read recently that they have something very similar in the Museum of London (I think), but knowing the way that the Nanny culture works it probably is not on show. So I would not make a special trip just to see it, if I were you.

There are several companies now that make museum replicas of mediaeval and ancient weapons, armor, etc. If they thought there was a sufficient market, perhaps they could be persuaded to make a replica of this device and sell it.

There would not be a need for a reproduction of the Roman Clamp as the modern surgical equivilent is far more efficient. I purchased mine a few years ago from a Surgical Manufacturer Shop in London as it is standard equipment for hospital use.

The clamp is a proper surgical instrument used in operations the world over, mine is 15 inches long and is used in cutting the colon and other major organs, as it has a spread of 7 inches. The clamp will tighten up to completely flat and totally cuts off all circulation, and there is a slot for insertion of a knife to seperate the tissues. Not an instrument to be dallied with but a necessary tool in the surgeons toolkit and of course standard equipment in hospitals. Come to think of it, it was probably purchased ten years ago now and it cost £160 then.

Just look at the craftsmanship of that castration device. One can only guess at how many males lost their balls clamped in that devece. Given the number of eunuch slaves in ancient times, that device was probably standard equipment of "barbers" and slavers.

Another thought: It was once standard practice in the Roman Empire and Ottoman Empire to demand that a tax of young boys be sent to the ruler from the conqured lands? My theory is that this device was used to cut those little boys into eunuch slaves. Look at how small the penis opening is and how small those clamps are. Poor guys who had their plumbs plucked!

Hmm, now I'm curious. Are there any cutters who use this sort of device? I'm guessing you clamp it on the scrotum very tightly, then slide the knife through the slot (severing the scrotum and testicles), then leave the clamp on until it heals?

There is a description of the device in some book that I came across. The penis was pulled through that hole on the top, the one formed by the two clamp ends at the top. Then, imagine this, the clamps, the ones with the long serrated ends, were drawn togeather behind the scrotum, tightening the "package" up and bringing the balls up forward. Get the picture. Now, with the penis pointing up and out of the way in the top clamp, the cutter would slice a neat horizontal line through the center of the scrotum. Balls pop out, cords are severed and the wound is neatly stitched up. Simple, elegant, effective, and efficent. Weren't those Romans ahead of their times?
