If you are able to read this, that is a good thing. We are undergoing some serious technical issues and are trying to resolve them.

Hello everyone!

I apologize for drifting out of contact! I love and miss you all very much. I was startled to find I could not access eunuch.org today! I can see Talula is already aware of this issue but in the meantime wanted to say that anyone having trouble accessing should still be able to reach eunuch.org using the Tor routing network (how I'm able to talk to you now!). You can download a copy of Tor here (https://www.torproject.org/), it comes with a copy of Firefox which should allow you access. If not, hit 'use new identity' (it will change the node it is using) and simply try again. Try doing this a couple of times.

I've been conducting some tests from here and estimate the site is not visible for most of the UK, and also much of Europe (possibly parts of U.S.). From here, it appears to be some kind of DNS issue, although I realise I don't have a complete set of facts.

If for any reason Tor doesn't work in the meantime, members might also try reconfiguring computers to use Google's own DNS (http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/) resolution, rather than your own ISPs. Here is how to set it up on Windows 7 and XP (http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/google-pu ... winxp.html), Apple OSX (http://www.mymacosx.com/snow-leopard/go ... tting.html) and Ubuntu. (http://ubuntu.igameilive.com/2009/12/ho ... endns.html)

At a guess, I think the Tor method will solve 90% of users problems.

I have to be honest, my initial reaction was to suspect censorship. If turns out to be the case, I will have no choice but to get extremely angry and set a bunch of wild, flying monkeys and Lulz lizards loose to wreak havoc upon those responsible! :) Hehe Who's responsible this?! Lol

If I can be of any help at any stage, just let me know.

It is very odd. I am able to get on the EA with a wireless internet stick I own for internet while I'm travelling, but my home network cannot connect. Both internet solutions are through the same company.

Even stranger, I can't use the internet stick to get on the EA from anywhere near where I work, but I can from home. Different server tower maybe?

I'm just happy to have any access at all. The EA has become something of my home on the internet over the last few months.

I hope the problems can be overcome soon. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Update;

Using thefraj's suggestion for downloading Tor, seems to have done the trick. I now have full access from my home computer.

VERY weird issue though.

My thanks to Sister Krister for supplying me the direct IP address of eunuch.org, 184.80.18.34 after my e-mail inquiry.

Talula, Kristoff, and anyone else . . . THANK YOU. 🙏

Have faith and this technical :( glitch will be resolved.

At least I have an answer to give people now as to how to get back here.

For some odd reason some people in the broader community think I'm a moderator here. I corrected them that I'm not, but at least now I can post an answer. :)

Thanks for the update everyone! It's good to see many can already access through the domain itself. Accessing through IP 184.80.18.34 works fine here on my broadband here in the UK, although it won't yet resolve the DNS. (Oddly for about two hours on Sunday it thought it could!) Oh mystical clouds of DNS! Propagate... Protego ... damn! ... How does the rest go? ... Lol

Thanks Cainanite, glad to hear Tor is working out - it is a neat little toy for getting those hard-to-reach-places on the web. My government would probably kill me for telling you that you only need to pick a UK node and you will be able to access all of BBC services Lol No, wait! My TV licence pays for that. Forget I said anything!

Thank you to all the admins for your tireless efforts! I are much appreciate :)

I couldn't get online the usual way... so I used the http://184.80.18.34/ address and that works.

I must respond that to a man with no hammer, nothing looks like a nail. I have often seen people (generally coworkers) fail to recognize problems they don't know how to solve.

Though I'm able to get on the EA message boards. The Fiction Archive still seems to be down. Or has anyone found a way into there, that I am unaware of?

Neither using Tor, nor using the numeric web address seems to work.

Ideas?

I'm glad to assist. I was just happy I was able to get to the chat via my IRC client and ask someone, and the answer for the numerical URL was given. Being a moderator of a fellow modification site, I decided to show some unity (rather than competition) and let people know how to get back here by prominently displaying the numerical URL on our homepage.

Once EA is back up and running, I'll remove that URL from our page, but for now, I stand in solidarity with the EA.

I'm guessing some sort of busy body housewife is what ultimately caused this. The "ZOMG! There is a subject on the interwebs I don't like. I must censor it by getting the people who point the address to web browsers to shut it down. Look at me, I'm all powerful hausfrau! ZOMG! Think of the POOR LITTLE CHILDREN!"

Last I checked, we kick the poor little children out of here.

*ugh*

The story archive has been temporarily pulled./ That is the source of our dns troubles. LT you're likely correct about the hausfrau.

I, for one, don't believe in soft-pedaling the truth. When my fellow chatters ask me what happened to the Eunuch Archive, I'm honest with them.

I say our server was hit with a big fracking meterorite.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I was afraid that EA was gone forever! But it wasn't. After googleing around I found Losethem posting in tribes.network.com with correct IP address.

On first page of EA we should give instructions how to make EA work. entering correct IP isn't enough.

For windows XP one must edit hosts file, making following entry:

--------------

184.80.18.34 www.eunuch.org

---------------

Hosts file can be found here:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

this entry forces all connections directed on www.eunuch.org to physical IP 184.80.18.34 and everything just starts to work. Includng Personals, chat and story archive.

this entry must be kept there until this strange DNS problem is solved.
