Let's address the 800-pound gorilla in the room.

The old Chinese adage "smelly like a eunuch" refers to the historical reality that Imperial eunuchs suffered from incontinence and often wet their beds and clothes.

According to the book Hidden Power: The Palace Eunuchs of Imperial China by Mary M. Anderson, "The Chinese spoke of them behind their backs as 'stinking eunuchs,' and claimed they could smell one a mile and a half away."

It is documented that Western doctors examined several eunuchs in the aftermath of the Qing Dynasty, with 100% suffering from urinary incontinence. Not surprising considering the barbaric state of medicine during that time period.

What's interesting is that despite today's more advanced medical practices, the incontinence issue hasn't been solved.

As recently as 2023, a study titled Eunuchs and Their Urological Problems stated: "Eunuchs suffer from urinary retention as a side effect of castration. Castration causes urethral stenosis (physical narrowing of the urethral channel), which ultimately led to the development of various urological problems in eunuchs, such as urinary dribbling or retention, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infection, and bladder stones."

I have experienced some degree of incontinence myself. Luckily, unlike Forbidden City eunuchs, I can simply buy Amazon Basics Men's Incontinence Guards — so hopefully no one can smell me when I'm a mile and a half away!

Back in the day they just sliced it off and shoved a pewter needle into the main orifice at the root of the penis, then the wound was covered with paper saturated in cold water and bound up. No anesthesia, no sterile conditions, not even any decent bandages.

That's how they did it in China 100+ years ago. I'm old, but not that old.

Yes, my doctor says I should be doing Kegel exercises every day and I haven't been doing them. Glad you reminded me. I'm usually OK, but I never know when leakage can strike so I often wear the pads. It's not necessarily due to my orchie, by the way. There are other medical issues in the mix also.

I think a lot of it has to do with what I eat/drink. Still fine-tuning my diet, but I find certain foods are safe for me to eat and certain foods (or ingredients) throw my whole system out of whack.
