What is the situation with public transit in USA? (For the one, who does not have drivers license).

The USA is a very large country. Some parts of it have excellent public transit, others have none. It would depend entirely on where you were planning to visit.

NYC or San Francisco would be no problem, Mom Central we would drive you or you would walk.

Unless you're in a big city, you walk or drive, as River said.

Chicago has very good public transit and commuter trains in and out of the city in all directions (except East, of course). Like any big city nothing is inexpensive and it has sections you want to avoid, especially after dark. If you're a guy who prefers the company of other guys be sure and visit Boystown on the near north side in the Wrigley Field area.

I am more or less attracted (that depends) to the more androgynous males, but other than that, the preference is female. So, if I'll end up in Chicago, I'll probably go there. Out of curiosity;).

I asked the question about public transit, because I am planning to go to the next year MoM. (Lots of ifs, if I'll be able to get a visa, if I'll still have a job, etc...). So, then, I looked at the available flights, and could not find anything closer to Minneapolis, than Chicago (at least direct). And after playing with google maps and it's public transit options, the question was born.

I do not mind walking, but anything more than 4-5km, and it just takes too much time.

It would be a long walk from Chicago to the MoM. I estimate it would be about 300 miles (500 KM ?). It is a short flight to Minneapolis, though

It's also a very inexpensive flight. If you can't arrange it from your end, I'm sure that the group here would be happy to get your ticket from Chicago to Minneapolis.

I checked on line, and there are several good flights from St. Petersburg to Chicago and many flights per day from Chicago to Minneapolis. I hope you can make it next year. We'd all like to see you.

Smart move. I grew up and lived there until age 25, then moved north. Been here ever since. On the rare occasion I must go back I usually drive to the Skokie Swift train station and ride the "EL" in. Take the Swift to Howard Street, transfer to the Red Line and ride it all the way downtown. Bonus: it makes several stops in the Boystown area on the way in. The train cars were packed full on 6-30 with folks going to the Gay Pride Parade. No parking hassles and even if you're lucky enough to find a spot you'll have to raid your 401K to pay for it.
