Brilliant, I remember the days when McAfee was a brilliant piece of software, and they gave partners a free remote desktop utility light years ahead of Team Viewer. In recent years it has become a monster like Norton...... Funny video......

Talula has it right. I spend more time and effort keeping my dear spouse's single W7 contraption de-malwared, registry cleaned, and de-fragged, than all our other machines, including servers combined. -And yes, a selection of free tools seem the best way to go at present for us too.
BTW, I write this with a M$-file-compatible fast desktop, no malware, no registry, no defragmenting, multiple screens, etc etc. Oh, yes and free. Do not fear the Penguin. There is maybe more Linux in use than you think. It's certainly worth asking someone who actually uses a Linux desktop, if you don't like what comes with the M$-W system.

I like my Firefox with security in the browser,
It has worked for me during periods when I had no other "filters"
and kept my computer clean. Even though I visit EA :-\
I did have McAfee and it never seemed worth "it".

Re: Do you hate McAfee?
McAfee is a horrid piece of software. Even Mr. McAfee agrees that it's been destroyed.
However the whole question is moot nowadays. Microsoft has its own anti-virus now, it's free with the OS; I bought a new computer last year, told the person at the store that it better god-damned well not have any McAfee or Norton or anything else on it.
Then installed Microsoft Security Essentials (free download) and I've been secure and running easy ever since.

I used McAfee several years ago. Never had any problem with it. Have used Trend Micro for several years now and have been satisfied with it.

Can't help wondering if Target endorses McA?
(They said that they tested for altered files, and the usual ways and more for pen-testing/prevention. I'm wondering where they hid their badboy. Maybe fuzzed something in a vendor account?)

Re: Do you hate McAfee?
We had a lot of trouble with McAffee at work, because one of our customers put it on their machines and made a mess of things (I think it was slowing the systems down so much that various processes would time out). At home I have Fedora, which is built on SELinux. That seems to be a much more effective and better-integrated approach. The only downside is that the NSA assists in the development of SELinux, so we just have to hope the non-NSA developers are smart enough to catch any vulnerabilities the NSA folks try to sneak in.

I ditched them back in 2003 or so. I bought it new on CD.
installed it.
It updated.
It demanded I pay for it.
I got to chat with a rep.
They cleared it up.
Next day, update.
Demanded i pay for it...uninstalled...refund.

I still can't say enough about how I adore Malwarebytes, the paid version. It's pulled my butt out of the fire more than once.
