It's that time of year again to start thinking about:
Midwest Mom 2014
Taking place August 21st - August 24th! All sorts of activities and menu to be announce. Guaranteed to be a great time. Recommended by all of have been to one.
Only two months to go till the grand event. Cainanite, Paolo, and I already have our motel rooms reserved. I reserved the only one in the place with a full kitchen. (It was formerly the owners' apartment.) Breakfast for all of the clan who decide to stay there - so long as you're up to diabetic-friendly foods.
I plan to ship at least a couple of cases of California wines ahead so that there will be plenty for the BBQ at the Convent (Kristoff's backyard) and for the gathering at the Mother Ship (Talula's house).
I believe I have properly made room reservations for this year's MoM.
I plan to get to an Interstate rest area Friday night, one close enough to the new MoM location that it will be easy to wake up and drive from the rest area to the MoM well before the start of breakfast on Saturday morning.
I made arrangements to park my truck and travel trailer for one night on the street near the MoM, for Saturday night.
I plan to be back at the same rest area for Sunday night.
On Monday night, I have a campground reservation in a Wisconsin State Park, and plan on having a vacation, with my wife, there, for much of the rest of the week after the MoM.
Work projects seem to have ruled out my arriving prior to early Saturday morning.
The menu is still not printed in stone but I was thinking along the same lines as last year. A lot of little things through out the day. Some BBQ ribs. Chicken from the stand down the way. Stuff like that there.
I had a great time last year enjoying the company of all you interesting folks. It's way too early for me to know if I'll be able to make it this year but I'll make a motel reservation rather than find myself either sleeping in my truck or staying many miles away. It doesn't cost anything to cancel.
That fish was wonderful, so was that Burger. Picture this, a 1/2 lb burger on a pretzel bun with Lettuce tomato onion rings and Avocado and floating on the top an egg, that and fries for under $10 bucks with onion rings about $13.
I will miss that place this year, hope I can make it next year, my mouth is watering already just thinking about it.
And don't forget the carrot cake, ask Talula about the carrot cake.
Cainanite, Paolo, and I now all have our plane tickets for the grand event. We also have two rooms (two beds each) reserved in the motel closest to the Mother Ship (Talula's home). We reserved early to be able to get what was once the owner's apartment on the second floor. It has a full kitchen and a large deck with a view into the trees along the St. Croix River. (Too many trees to see the river, though.)
The motel only has 19 rooms, so early reservations are recommended.
Only two more weeks to go for the grand event. It's always great fun to meet and talk with some of the members here. If you can make it to Minneapolis for a day or two during the MoM, you really ought to come.

I wonder... why you either have free time or money, but not both at the same time? I mean, the only way I'll be able to be there this year is over skype or something like that.
I'm going to try to make it this year. Jesus should have me covered on the motel, but due to the driving distance (650-miles) I am not sure when I will arrive. I will leave on Thursday, but may not arrive until Friday.
Dude, I did the drive from southern Indiana to River Falls, Wisconsin in just about 9 hours. Then again, I had a rather 'hot' Dakota pickup, a radar detector, and got damn lucky! 140 in a 55 tends to get you put in jail, despite the ticket...
I wish you all a good time at the MoM. I have fond memories of the times I was there. But the management of the MoM doesn't want me there anymore. So I stay away, but hope everyone has a good time.
