Begin Testosterone Shots

It's going to feel like going through puberty again, at least, it was for me.

Not a pleasant experience.

I wish you luck on it, though. You'll probably be feeling like a randy 18 year old in no time.

Good luck on your newfound virility Old Softee! :D

Sweet! It's kinda like you're a virgin all over again. :p

Hmmm.... I'm 19 years old, if I take hormone shots, how would that affect me? Like, would I be a lot randier? Or is there a preset limit to randiness.

Geo,

If you're 19 and everything's working normally, hormone shots would not be a good idea.

Yes, you would be even randier. You'd probably also be shaving two or three times a day, have an increase in body hair, a great chance of acne out of control, along with an increased sex drive and aggression that would NOT be a good idea for you.

Over time, and I could be wrong, but as your testicles realized that there was already a great amount of testosterone in your system, they might even get lazy and stop producing it on their own and shrink a bit. This is the effect that often occurs with steroid abuse among bodybuilders. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, or post some more info if you have it.

sounds on target. I'm taking testosterone because I've had a steady loss of it for a decade and a half. I want to take the opportunity to feel potent again after not feeling sexual.

Taking horomons that your body normally produces would, I think, be an invitation simply to lose what I've lost. For me this is an experiment.

By the way, not having libido has had a benefit--serenity and time for many activities. 🚬

There is a feedback loop in your body for test production. Once the lvl rises above what you body want, it will shut down your natural production until the level falls below the required amount.

Bodybuilders typically take massive amounts of test and other steriods but do them in cycles so that they avoid the shutdown effect. It takes several months to effect a total shutdown of your natural production.

Also it may not start back up again. It does happen that sometimes when the test is discontinued that your natural production will not start up again. So it's not something to be taken lightly.

it's worth the attempt to start production. If that doesn't work, maybe I can use a patch. Because I'm doing six month interval prostate checkup, I believe this is worth the chance it might work. 😄

If it fails to start up again, there are a couple of different mixes of drugs that have been tried to jumpstart the production again. I ran across it in a medical journal. The formula had been used with some sucuess with bodybuilders that had knocked out their natural production.

It's very worth in IMHO, but then of course I've been on HRT for a number of years. My lost of Test was due to Chemo not the removal of my nads, that came later (besides they didn't work anyway) hehe

I am much happier with HRT than I was without normal lvls of Test. I understand that many find a calm feeling, for me it was anything but. I only got a calm feeling when I went on HRT.

I feel more relaxed on testosterone. 😎 I don't buy that testosterone causes men to be violent or agitates us. ;)

If you sift though the medical litature, you'll see references to just that. For me personally without test, I have mood swings ranging from rage (at things that normally don't bother me) to depression so severe that I don't get out of bed. I have great trouble sleeping, some nights I am so amped up that I don't sleep at all. I'm irritable all the time, it's not a pretty picture.

The first time I took the shot about 45 minutes later I felt this great sense of well being, and felt like my old self again (before my chemo kill off my test production). They talk about roid rage, but that is usually associated with bodybuilders who take not only test in very large amounts along with several other steriod analogs.

Most urologist know about this but it's one of those urban ledgends that seems to have a life of it's own.

It does have that effect especally in men with low or absent test production. Myself I feel much better with normal replacemt than I do off. I know that many eunuchs say that are calm and feel much better without the test. I don't find that for myself. But then people are different

Indeed we are. I think some of it may have to do with how you were functioning on testosterone before the T-levels went down. Those of us with libido problems feel better without the T, and those who felt normal will feel the loss of the T.

Well in my youth I jacked off usuallly 4 or 5 times a day. By the time I lost my Test I was down to 1 or 2 times a day plus having sex with my partner. I don't feel that I had any libo problems, seems mine worked just fine :tongueout

I think that for most men, T is beneficial. BUT, in my case... I'm naturally hypogonadal (less than 10 ng/dl of T) and always have been, so my brain really isn't wired to deal with it.

About 9 years ago, I went to an endocrinologist about my T level, and that's when it was diagnosed at the level mentioned above. He prescribed replacement T for me, and to start me off he gave me an injection of about 1/3 normal amount in the office ("start it off slow"). I left the office and didn't get more than a few blocks away before I got violently ill, feeling flushed, sweating, trembling and full of rage. I don't know how I made it home, but I spent the next day and a half like this, including vomiting and a libido that was so out of control as to be physically painful. It got better, but I was still suffering aftereffects for almost a week, including discoloration and soreness at the injection site.

When I returned to the endo's office and told him what had happened, he admitted to me that a small percentage of hypogonadal men react badly to T, and I was unlucky enough to be one of them.

That's intriguing :( but absolutely believable. Does anyone else know why this reaction happens? ❓

not for sure why that reaction would happen, but something similar happened to me.

I was on 200mg T per week and my doctor wanted to switch me to a transdermal cream. The compounding pharmacy and the Dr had a misscommunication and instead of giving me 200mg divided out over a week, they gave me 200MG PER DAY. With the aborbation rate at about 80% I was getting a mega dose.

My sex drive dissapeared on the 3rd day and by the 10th day I was so sick all I could do was ly on the couch. I was the one who figured out the mistake and on the 12th day discontinued the cream. It took 2 full weeks for my lvl to come back down to normal.

So yes I can totally see how that could happen. Being that you are naturally Hypo, your body never adapted to the higher lvl of T that most of us did as teens. It's a very powerfull hormone.

You might give a compounded cream a try, you could get that in a very low dose and build up from there. You probably would never need the higher lvls that many do, but you might get good results with a small amount.

Ouch, you too? I'm sorry you had to go through that.

But yes, when I was a teen, I barely had enough hormone to grow (light) body hair, and it was me wondering why I just wasn't interested in girls or guys that got me to go to that endo when I was 23 (maaannn did I ever regret that). 😲

Currently, I take low levels of herbal estrogen, phytoantiandrogens and cream progesterone in order to block T and avoid osteoporosis, and to help me achieve a degree of physical androgynity, and I'm one happy androgyne. :p

I took the second of the four testosterone shots this afternoon.

At the same time, I'm changing from Paxil to Lexapro. With that change, I feel down this week. I suppose most of the Paxil is gone. Lexapro has not yet kicked in.

I have no idea what testosterone is doing. I don't really feel much different with testosterone, except that I have more sexual thoughts than I did before the shots. And I can obtain mild orgasms.

However, just now, the change in medicaiton for depression confuses my moods. ❓ ❓ 📱

Almost two years after receiving testosterone shots, I do feel better. I have more muscle tone than I did without the shots. I am calm. I feel good. I never regained much libido--except just after receiving the shots, but that is okay. If I found the right relationship, I think that I could respond appropriately.

Andrew seems to have more action than I have, but then I no longer have a cat in the family. That is okay. I also have no litter boxes to clean. :D

I do not know whether I miss making love--that has not happened in more than 12 years, but I miss sharing life with a lover. I deeply miss that.
