Important New Survey

Post by JesusA »

It is important that there be more academic research and publication about voluntary eunuchs if there is ever to be sufficient counseling and medical help. Kevin Hsu is a young graduate student who shows great promise in his interest in understanding voluntary eunuchs. I hope that all of the members here will give serious consideration to completing his survey. The results should be of value to all who are here.

<<oooOOOooo>>

My name is Kevin Hsu, a PhD student in the Department of Psychology at Northwestern University. For part of my dissertation research, I would like to invite men who identify as eunuchs or eunuch wannabes to participate in a survey about their sexuality, gender, identity, and personality. Specifically, I am interested in the relations between eunuchs' and eunuch wannabes' sexual interests/fantasies and their identities/personalities. Because this survey will look at lesser studied aspects of sexuality among eunuchs and eunuch wannabes, the content may be uncomfortable for some people and should not be taken by anyone under 18.

Please be aware that there will be many questions about unusual kinds of sexual interests. If these kinds of questions will make you uncomfortable or otherwise unable to answer openly, then I would not suggest that you take this survey. That being said, the survey is being hosted anonymously and does not collect IP or any other kind of identifying information. It will take about 30-45 minutes, and you do not have to answer every question in order to participate. You can also withdraw at any time without consequence. After taking the survey yourself, I would appreciate if you asked other men you know who identify as eunuchs or eunuch wannabes to also take it.

I was fortunate to have received important feedback, suggestions, and support for this survey from Michael Bailey, PhD (my research mentor), Richard Wassersug, PhD, and Thomas Johnson, PhD. Drs. Wassersug and Johnson have studied eunuchs and eunuch wannabes on the Eunuch Archive for many years and have published several articles about castration and eunuchs. I am extremely grateful to have had their input - many thanks to both of them for all their help.

I will participate in this survey. Anything that can help the medical community understand our needs will be beneficial. I certainly want better and safer services for future eunuchs. Of my past doctors who knew of my eunuch status only one was curious. I shared with him the survey results and when he returned to teaching I was hoping the surveys might be mentioned and open some minds.

Good luck with the survey. Let's hope that much enlightenment results.

I did the survey and was myself enlightened. Usually I hate questionnaires, but this seemed a worthy cause.

Much of the subject matter was not the sort of thing I spend much time talking about. Perhaps I should, as I felt more at peace after contemplating the answers. So much so, that I think that I might have answered the quiz differently if I were to do it again. (I won't as I suspect that this would make tabulating the results a nonsense.)

My PCP knows absolutely nothing about these things, and while he tolerates me as a harmless oddity, Tugon is right; the PCP needs to know more about the folk who actually enjoy being eunuchs, to everyone's benefit.

I took the survey and found the questions didn't lead towards any of my feelings, it seamed to come back to fetish without taking into consideration that some of us are not transwomen or dont want some sexual gratification from being castrated, I mean it can only happen once and its the result that's desired, by me, not the action, hell I'm good with a general and would be happy going to sleep and waking up with it done, put me in bed and i'll be happy to sleep the rest of the day, night and the next day.

I consider this a really icky questionnaire, especially the part where they asked about attraction to infants, and you had to move the slider to something other than zero to proceed. I cancelled my participation.

I find that this questionnaire assumes everyone is sexual. I found that I couldn't answer most questions because I had no sexual attraction or fantasy.

I'm very sorry but the title puts me off, "Sexuality and Identity in Adult Baby/Diaper Lovers and Eunuchs." What on earth have adult baby/diaper lovers and eunuchs got to do with each other?

Human sexuality is a diverse, complex and fascinating subject, surely the author could make the effort to create separate surveys for entirely different groups of people. Or perhaps just include eunuchs in a more general survey.

What's the next one going to be? "Sexuality and Identity in Foot Fetishists and Lesbians." Wouldn't that cause great offence?

Put the sliders where you want.

The title, the assumptions in the questions.... Yes, we need more questionnaires like this if only to show the questioners that life is maybe not as supposed.

Scientifically, best to observe, suppose, test, change what is supposed.

It is human nature to skip the first and maybe most difficult step. This is a youngster on his first outing, trying to understand the eunuch zoo. Maybe cut him some slack?

You can move it back to zero after touching the slider (Or can just click on it, and it will stay on "0")

PS. I will always read the whole thread before answering to posts.

Now that I have time, I find that the server isn't responding. I can only view the first page, the introduction.

I will try again later.

As far as the title of the survey, when translated from the strange language of "Academia", my guess is that the survey is/was going to be used for two different groups, and that sliding a bar back to zero would indicate "N/A" for "not applicable".

This is Kevin Hsu, the PhD student conducting the research survey of eunuchs and eunuch wannabes that was graciously posted in this thread. First, I want to thank every person who has taken the survey so far. I know that it is not a short or easy survey and that not all of the questions (perhaps any) apply to your individual experiences. And so I really, really appreciate your time and help.

I would like to respond to some of the comments in this thread, because I think it is important that researchers be open and receptive to feedback and criticism. I also think it is important that they be transparent with participants, so I want to do my best to show that I take seriously both the positive takeaways and the concerns that have been raised.

tugon, daifu-orchid, and IncestCirc - thank you for participating and for finding the survey to be enlightening and potentially helpful for understanding the eunuch community among medical professionals, the greater public, etc.

Freddyjack, Oyktiro1, Ernie of Maine - thank you for your feedback. Yes, I understand that castration or being castrated is not sexual for everyone. I am sorry to hear that it felt that the survey assumed this. That was not my intention. I think it is extremely important that I do have responses from persons like yourselves, who do not find castration or being castrated to be sexual. I think we want to know whether any sexual aspects of being a eunuch or eunuch wannabe are related to aspects of identity and personality, and we want to have a wide range of individuals with differing feelings (for example, from those who do not find it sexual at all, to those who find it extremely sexual). There is a lot of diversity in sexuality, including among the eunuch/eunuch wannabe community. I would like to capture that diversity in my survey results, so I hope that you will consider completing the survey even if it means putting "0" or "no" to many questions about your sexual interests related to castration or being castrated.

shydudexx - I'm sorry if some of the instructions were not clear. You are able, as IncestCirc and fhunter pointed out, to put 0 for those slider questions. You just click on the slider, and it will drop onto wherever you want. I also want to point out that I ask about sexual interests that some may find objectionable simply for comparison. I do not assume that everyone has such interests. But I would like to assess a broader range of interests than what most surveys of sexuality typically ask. Our lab asks the same questions of other populations that have been understudied or misunderstood with respect to their sexuality, which I will address next.

Zebedee - I apologize about the title. I am also studying another population/community - adult baby/diaper lovers - as part of my dissertation. I am studying them separately, without any assumption that they may be similar except in the fact that both involve online communities. The reason they are together in the same title is because both involve surveys, and I submitted the proposal for both together as one "project" to our ethics review board (IRB) to expedite the review process. It is required that we use the title of the project submitted to the IRB. You are seeing an entirely different survey than the one that the adult/baby diaper community will see. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion.

The data collected from half your questionnaire has absolutely no value since it only applies to people with testicles wanting to be a woman or sexual fantasies about being castrated with no valid choices for any non-fantasy non-transsexual data other than aborting the questionnaire completely and dumping their data. People who actually have no testicles have no valid choices on most of the questions. Your published results will be skewed so badly they won't be able to be taken very seriously. It actually reminded me of the trolling we see here so often. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

After having taken the survey, I found it hardly 50% relevant to this community. I found myself answering most of the 'arousal' questions at 0. I am not sure if this is going to provide a valid study of the eunuch/wannabe community or not. I am leaning toward 'not'.

I agree with leather pup, even though it came from someone who is a human pet, there are a lot of us that are not trans, who are not pedophiles and are NOT getting off on a sexual fantasy, fantasies come and go, they morph and change direction as they progress, for a lot of us, our wants, desires and our perceptions of who we are inside do notfit with the directions available in the survey. I finished it and asked myself "why did I waste my time". It wasn't about me. P.S. Nothing personal LeatherPup but its hard to read an opinion about non fantasies for a self described Human Pet

Really bizarre. I don't feel it captured the eunuch community at all. He seems more interested in fucking and fantasy, than actual sexuality. Also, as a nullo, there were not nearly enough options for me in the test. Also, why are you asking me about how I feel about having normal genitals? I clearly stated, with checkboxes numerous times, that I do not have normal genitals. Frankly, I found the whole thing rather useless, scientifically.

By the way, thanks for the pointless autism spectrum disorder test at the end. It's exactly like the majority you can find online, which to me means, it's not useful. Though I answered honestly, I was able to pick up what you were doing, and I could have manipulated the result. Easily.

My review - Throw this turd in the trash and start over. Then come back when you have a format that may capture our community realistically.

After giving it a bit more thought, I think this survey was likely put together for something else entirely, and then adapted to a "one size fits all" survey. And that won't work. I, too, noticed the autism spectrum questions near the end. Frankly, I got bored with all the questions about sexual arousal. If you're surveying a community of eunuchs, wannabes, and the otherwise 'arousal challenged' gang, this survey isn't likely to work. Just like a 'one size fits all' hat doesn't work well on kids. It falls down over their face.

I also found the survey to be rather pointed toward creating a stereotype description of eunuch. The vast majority of the questionnaire assumes that there is some form of sexual arousal in virtually every aspect of a persons life which could not be further than the truth.

I suggest that the author will be able to discover his own errors in this survey either errors in the concept or errors in his construction of it. If we give him a chance he will learn as much, or even more, about authoring surveys as he will about eunuchs. If he learns about either subject we may have a valuable ally to help accustom the medical world to us and our needs. --FLO--

As a 20 year eunuch I did not think much pertained to me. The questions to me were more directed to wannabes and recent eunuchs. I am curious to read if there is any new information gathered about the eunuch community.

I may have been brash before. OK, yes I was. The issue I have with it is I do not see how this survey learns anything about us as a community. Jesus has authentically studied us for decades. I'm surprised he didn't flush this one before it got off the ground in it's present form, by telling the author that he's going to get an incredibly negative reaction from us.

Looking a bit more objectively, this survey is light years BEHIND where the eunuch and nullo community is at the moment. It may as well have been put together and offered up in the early 90's. I can handle a difficult truth, but this came off to me as nothing but wanting to know about our sex lives and fantasies. If the intent is to help our community or learn about it in authentic ways, this survey is far off the mark, and entirely too intrusive into things which don't matter.

Having decided that I may have been a bit hasty to begin with, I took another look and started the survey. Unfortunately I found the questions about arousal and fantasy to be mostly irrelevant and in some cases distasteful, and I'm sorry but I gave up quite quickly as I was feeling a little creeped out by it.

For me castration is about my gender identity and has nothing whatsoever to do with fantasy.
