Absent from Archive
Absent from Archive
I have been absent from the archive for some time now. Unfortunately, I have not been able to take care of administrative areas. Fortunately, Paolo has stepped in to help.
I ended up in the hospital 7 weeks ago as a result of a couple of falls. I fractured my skull twice, concussion, bleeding on the brain, and general unconsciousness. I was in the hospital for six weeks, including 10 days unconscious. I am now in a rehab center, where I am working on neuropsych issues and physical therapy stuff. I expect to be back home in a couple more weeks.

Glad to read you are taking care of yourself. Take it easy and heal. Those falls are tricky especially when they are not caused by a trip or other mechanical reasons. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Apart from all the physical discomfort and pain, there is also the fright that we have to overcome. Get well soon and take your time.

Glad to hear this, and to chat with you the other night.
It's not been that much of a problem here. Things have been going as expected.
Just so long as the bills get paid...
hehe

So sorry to hear of your fall and issue because and after that. Rest as you can. And do what you have to do to regain strength.

Re: Absent from Archive
I am back home now, and have been since Saturday the 7th. I fell 2 or may be 3 times, fracturing my skull front and back. One was the eye socket on the left side. I had 7 hormorages in the brain, and swelling as well. I am told I came very close to dieing. After 6 weeks in the hospital (I don't remember the first 5) I spent three weeks in a nursing home (transitional care facility), doing rehab. They taught me how to walk again with a cane, though I can get along some without it - I lose my balance at times, sometimes getting dizzy. I finally got my roommate to take me grocery shopping today -- all my food was gone, thrown away because of spoilage. I went over-board and spent a lot. Not working away from home right now; just working doing tax returns at home. I have a lot more time to watch the archive and catch up. It is good to be back with most of my sensibilities. Still practicing walking, trying to go without a cane when I can do it safely. Perhaps I will try driving my truck later this week, maybe next week, as long as I don't get dizzy.
Good to be here.

Good to have you back. No lets upgrade that to wonderful you are back. Did they find any underlying cause for the falls or were the hemorrhages causing the falls or the impacts of the falls causing you to hemorrhage? The fact that you can still do taxes means you have not had any major deficits of thoughts. Do not be so quick to discard that cane. After all that curved handle can be used to reach out to a handsome young altar boy when you are needing assistance.

Very glad you are improving. If you do still have occasional dizzy spells, it might be wise to invest in a walker to use part of the time. This would probbly give you added confidence at times and help you heal completely. Between a walker and a cane, you would improve faster, I know my wife did with two knee replacements and a hip replacement. Listen to your body. Will continue to keep you in mind and prayers.

Glad to see you're back, we were all worried about you!
Take your time getting back to your old self, this injury you suffered is what ultimately took my grandfather from us.

WOW! That's some serious stuff you went through. Don't take those balance issues lightly.
I had a "minor" stroke sometime ago. The only reminder is an occasional feeling that I'm going to tip over if I turn to the side too quickly. I have to stop momentarily to catch my balance before moving on. I fear a fall too.
I've attended 2 MOMs and had the pleasure of being at your "Mother Church" for the Thursday night cookout once so you're more than a faceless avatar on a forum. Sincere best wishes for the future.
I've also become a strong believer in the power of prayer. I'll say a few for your complete recovery

Re: Absent from Archive
Got back from the neurologist this morning. She has ordered a bunch of tests in order to rule out certain kinds of damage. She wants an MRI to determine if a stroke was involved, as well as an EEG. She wants to make sure there is no hydrocephaly (water on the brain) going on, She also wants a CT scan to check on the hemhorages. I'm also slated for Neurological PT to help overcome the vertigo and dizziness and balance issues. Wish she'd give me something for the headaches. She also told me not to go back to work in the near future. May have to defy that one. Can't live on savings forever. I'm sounding like some of the whiners in the nursing home. that's no good. Glad I have my computer, and can drive my truck now - doctor doesn't think that's a good idea, but I will anyway. I'm doing a driver's re-training next week and taking another driving test - make the doctor happy.
