Get Plume

Post by NovaMike »

I was searching the Internet to see what was available for support and one of the sites I found was Plume or GetPlume. I won't provide the link in case that is not appropriate.

From the website, it appears to be an online therapy/doctor service with a monthly membership fee. Some of the information they provide on the FAQ says

Plume is available for anybody 18 years or older who desires gender-affirming care.

What is included in your membership? Everything to start, continue, and maintain your gender-affirming hormone treatment.

We prescribe testosterone, estrogen, and testosterone blockers. Your medical provider will create a customized treatment plan, which includes prescriptions to help align your physical body with your gender.

I have been hesitant to do the chemical castration route without medical support. Is anyone familiar with this website? Is it legit? It seems like I would be able to use them to get the lab tests and prescription for chemical castration. They would also be able to provide a letter when time comes for an orchiectomy. They were mentioned on TechCrunch which is a website I am familiar with and that said they are a startup for the Transgender community.

I guess the site is too new for anyone to have experience with GetPlume. I am tempted to give it a try, but don't know if I am comfortable with a monthly membership fee.

It's not in my state, but as soon as it is I am going to give it a try.

I decided to give it a try. My first meeting is scheduled for October 9th.

They have a bunch of questions for new members to answer. Honestly, I don't know if they are setup to work with Eunuchs or people who are just seeking castration. Most of the questions are related to transgender, who knows, and how long, etc.

For the question about what I am seeking, I said that I don't know. My real goal is castration or maybe nullification. I might be willing to try chemical castration for a few months until the pandemic ends. I did find a local place that some of the transgender sites say will perform bottom surgery, so I might just seek the letters so I can approach them for a consultation.

Hey @NovaMike,

Sounds like we might be living in the 21st Century after all. I think COVID has given telemedicine a jump-start in ways we'd been hoping for without any luck.

I'm pretty sure that you won't be the first MTE that they encounter. But, if you just happen to be the first, remind them that it is okay for a doctor to learn something from a patient.

Keep us informed, please. I know therapy is private and I'm not suggesting you tell us anything privy. Just how it is going in general.

I just answered a questionnaire from them. It did seem geared towards mtf orfrom, but it is a step in the right direction. ,

As I am going through this process, meeting with Counselors and now an Endocrinologist, every single one of them tells me that this is a different approach and a unique desire. When dealing with the Trans system, their focus is MTF or FTM, but every person I am working with is very understanding and willing to help

I had my first (and last) virtual visit with one of their doctor's today. He said that what I am dealing with is not gender dysphoria and that they are not able to help. Maybe, I could have presented my story in a way that would work for them, but I am a male and want to continue to present myself to the world as a male. I just don't want to be a slave to testosterone. He did offer a few possible resources that might be able to prescribe drugs to reduce libido.

I am frustrated because I was hoping to have found a resource that would help, but now need to start over again.

Well that's disappointing. From watching a couple of their virtual forums I did get the feeling that they are very much locked into one has to be MtF or FtM.

Perhaps the issue is you don't identify as transgender and the organization's focus is strictly transgender related. I did see that they serve non-binary genders, not just MTF and FTM. Unfortunately, MTE is still not well understood. A self identified male seeking castration is going to be all the less understood.

It's tough enough getting

^^^ My previous post got cut off- Anyway, It's tough enough getting services as a self identified Eunuch- Hopefully the new WPATH standards includes recognition of non-binary identities and a related standard of care.

Just keep in mind there are no new standards as of this time. When the DSM-4 was being used the diagnosis used to treat those of us who have been succesful in the medical community was, 302.6 - Gender Identity Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. It's escaping me at the moment what DSM-5 calls it (the current DSM), other than the GID part is now Gender Dysphoria.

That is what is being worked on, getting an actual classification for eunuchs. Until then, we're getting treatment under that code (the DSM-5 equivalent).

So yes, be sad there is no specific classification for us yet, but be happy we are at least making headway with the medical community now.

So I spoke to a Plume Dr today. She was very helpful and very understanding. I told her, and showed her my androcur, and explained how it makes me very breathless. She said she didn't want that and we should look for another way. We chatted about estrogen, about the different ways to take it. We chatted about how much feminization I did or didn't want, and eventually she asked me to start on spironolactone, and see how that goes, and then look at options for E. It was a very easy experience. Very supportive and helpful. She was eager to explain everything and cognizant that this is my journey and unique to me.
