Survey Number 4
This survey is designed to help us to understand interest in castration, eunuchs, and related subjects. There will be questions related to your experience in childhood, and also sexual history. Whatever your status—whether you are castrated or not—if you read the Eunuch Archive we hope you will take the survey. What we learn here should help health care providers better serve those who have an interest in castration. The full questionnaire takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Regardless of your level of interest in castration, you are invited to take the survey; all responses are valuable.
The survey includes questions on childhood experiences, castration desire and sexual history. Those who completed our previous questionnaires may recognize some questions repeated here. This repetition is so we can compare the results from the older surveys with results from this newer survey. Some questions may seem irrelevant. Some may be quite uncomfortable. Many are part of questionnaires that have been used with other, quite different, populations to which our findings might be compared. Such comparisons will help to place eunuchs and the eunuch-interested into a larger context. The uncomfortable questions may help us to point out important differences with other populations to whom eunuchs are sometimes compared.
All data collected will be kept completely confidential. We do not ask for names or addresses or any other identifying information.
Please answer as honestly as you can. We hope that you will fill in all the questions, but you should feel free to skip any question that you feel uncomfortable answering. Please also note that "castration" in this questionnaire is defined as any procedure that removes or destroys the testicles themselves or causes them to no longer function. This is not the same as removal of foreskin (circumcision), removal of the penis, which is termed "penectomy" in the questionnaire or "nullification" which means that both testicles and penis have been removed.
Publications that are based on this survey will be announced on the Eunuch Archive and made available to any who request them from the authors. Publications from the earlier surveys (2005, 2008, and 2017) are available from the authors. You can request copies either through the Eunuch Archive or by writing directly to us. A recent post lists the 30 papers currently available: http://forums.eunuch.org/showthread.php ... rch-papers
(http://forums.eunuch.org/showthread.php ... rch-papers)
If you have any questions about the survey and its use or purposes, feel free to contact Prof. Thomas W. Johnson ([email protected]). I will be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
Thank you.
Tom Johnson
The survey is now closed with 850 completed responses.

Great! I wanted to thank you for sending me the papers that I asked you to (including the earlier survey result papers) and say that I would be willing to participate in any future research.... Looks like the future is now.
(Still feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions / research you are doing in addition to the survey)

That survey was long, but it was also rather thorough. There were some aspects which needed improvements for people who are castrated or nullified. Some questions did not give an option to pick if you had already had these procedures, but demanded an answer even when they did not apply to my situation.

Done. Badly designed. Honestly answered. Anything to promote our community gets the thumbs up from me.
And yes, I used to be a statistician. It's a sad life - imagine the office parties. But some weird questions in there....

As a fellow statistician and eunuch, I'll take anything which attempts to get at answers needed for legitimate research into our community. A lot of pushback for getting us the care we need openly is due to, "no research", which I'm rapidly learning is WPATH speak for, "go away..." Or at least it seems that way.
There's not enough research is the general chorus, but nobody (except Jesus) seems to have any interest in taking it on.

LT - I agree.
The devil is always, always, in the detail and much more research is required. At least if only to broaden general acceptance of our requirements. Arguably the medical stuff is already pretty well established. Yet the phycological aspects are rarely understood. And if they are, then rarely countenanced. I've lost count of the number of urology consultants that I have discussed this with. Hence my mildly hesitant decision to forego UK healthcare and put my fate in the hands of a well respected Mexican.

Just finished the survey.
Went into no depth into those who are or want to be nullified. Went into no depth into those who use or abstain from hormone replacement. Went into no depth into current sexual activity.

I also did it.. Been a Eunuch for many many years. Caulk another one up.. I am another one that had it done by a cutter a long time ago and years later wonder if I did the right thing or not. Once it is done you can't go back.. So make sure you have made the right decision.

Re: Survey Number 4
It is a long survey! I get why so many questions. The archive has been a monumental support to me over the years. Now days I check in from time to time. It is important to try and make genital choices more accessible. My journey to eunuch was painful and dangerous. I would not wish that on anyone. Therfore, anything we can do to help the cause is worth the effort for others.

Re: Survey Number 4
Survey Number 4 is wisely written. Depending on the answers of the participants, additional branches are opened. Therefore, for different people, the duration of the survey varies.
For me, the survey did not last very long. I liked this "interview".
It seemed to me useful, as it helps to understand oneself.

I had no problem with the length/duration. Although quite comprehensive, it didn't capture all of the aspects of my own sexuality - but there were opportunities to mention/add these. I enjoyed doing it.

Re: Survey Number 4
For those saying it didn't capture your own situation, what could have made it better and done more to do that? Keeping in mind this is something meant to gather information from as wide a group as possible.
I could see a follow-up survey at some point to better address things which may have been missed. I think this survey is a good start though. It may help answer if there are other questions which may need asking in the future, when it becomes obvious there is something missing.

there were questions where I wanted to answer "does not apply" because not answering may mean discomfort and the available answers were not really suitable for me. there were also some questions that don't come to mind now that I wish offered a place to explain. like am I straight, gay etc I felt the answer that came close didn't really come close enough.
but as I posted above, it froze up on me twice and I don't know if they got my answers and I don't know how much was left. I'd be happy to answer via postal service if anyone knows how that could be arranged.

Re: Survey Number 4
I have written to Erik Wibowo about the problem of crashes. He suggested that I offer to send a Microsoft Word copy of the survey to anyone who had problems with the on-line version. If you send me a Private Message with an email address that will accept an attachment, I will see that you receive a copy. If the survey is then returned, I will make certain that all of your identifying information is removed before it is forwarded on to Dr. Wibowo to add to the tabulation.
Previous surveys have been influential in gaining recognition for eunuchs and the need for proper medical care. This one may help the cause even further. That is the goal.

Re: Survey Number 4
I had no problems with filling it out. It was longer than I expected, but seemed quite thorough. There were areas that it didn't go into as much depth about as it could have, but I suspect there was a good bit of trying to balance depth vs. time needed to do it.
Also while I am sure that there will be every effort made to make it as anonymous as possible in any papers that come out of it, I am sure that at least in my case anyone who follows EA and sees the raw data will have no trouble figuring out that one set of answers came from me... (I'm not worried about it!)
I don't know how long the survey will be up, but if it is for a while and someone that answers it has a 'state-change' should they try to redo it , or otherwise let Jesus and colleagues know about it?
