As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
Hello all,
I don't post much here and until now I've still never started my own thread. That said I'm happy to anounce I've been surgically castrated on Oct 4th, 2024. I would like to thank all the long term posters who've shared their experiences, it took me a long time to get to this point but lurking on these forums has helped me get to where I am today. I hope to be able to repay the favor.

Thanks! I've been wanting to be a eunuch for around 20 years at this point. I'm coming into this with fairly realistic expectations so I'm confident that I'll be happy with the outcome.

CONGRATULATIONS on finally reaching your goal to be a eunuch! hope your healing is fast. Buy a package of Men's Depends (pull up diapers) to keep from staining your colthes and bedding by leaking incisions.

Welcome to the new mode of life....
May your healing be rapid and trouble free...
When I had my surgery, I was told that Alleve (Naproxen) is the best choice for pain relief as it will help more with the swelling than the other varieties of OTC pain meds...
Ice may help, but probably not much at this point... (It is mostly good only right around the time of surgery)

Thanks!
I really haven't been bothering with pain meds, I used a bit of ice on the first day but didn't really notice any improvement. So far I still have a fair bit of swelling in the cord stumps but no real pain. Even on the first day the pain was extremely minor.

Sounds like good progress... I had both orchie and scrotum done at the same time, and found the scrotum was far more painful, I didn't really notice the orchie part... From what I've heard the ice doesn't really make the swelling go away, but can keep it from getting as bad... However even then it is only supposed to be good for the first few hours post-op... After that it won't help.
I think it is great that you can avoid the pain meds - my suggestion was just if you need them, but IMHO it is best to avoid them if possible.

Congratulations. I am a little behind you, and have my first consultation later next month. Seems that you are now a fortnight post op, a couple of questions, don't feel obligated to answer if you don't wish to. As per WheelyFixed I would have the two procedures done at the same time.
1) In retrospect are there any questions you wished you had asked?
2) Where there any key questions from your perspective for your medical team?
3) Anything you might suggest to do before the operation by way of preparation?
4) Two weeks in are their any issues or tips with your recovery so far.
Thanks for your consideration.

Congratulations on joining the eunuch clan! May you heal fast and feel free at last. It's a big step, but you did it and I hope the only regret you have, like so many of us have had, and that is that we weren't castrated when we were a lot younger so as to enjoy living in peace and calmness longer.

1. Possibly a bit more about what to expect in terms of swelling and so on during recovery, and how best to deal with them... (It is possible that they weren't totally aware of the issues relating to having to do intermittent cathing, so had me pull the Foley to soon, which led to a trip to ER and a new Foley when I couldn't get to my urethra w/ the intermittent cath because of swelling)
2. More about how being a para would impact things - but I'm not sure they really knew as it probably isn't well documented since we are uncommon...
3. They did not suggest ice or recommend Alleve / Naproxen for pain until I was seeing the surgeon's NP after the trip to the ER, when it was to late for ice to be much help... In retrospect I'd strongly advise using ice packs during the first 24 hours or so post-op... According to the NP, Alleve is the best of the OTC pain relief options for dealing with BOTH swelling and pain... (I will not take opioid's for ANY reason having gone through the hell of getting off them after my SCI)
4. It WILL get better.... Don't worry to much about stuff peeling off the incision as long as you don't start getting bleeding or signs of infection....

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
Hey all, I kinda lost track of this thread and for that I apologize. I'm mostly healed now though I got a bit of a hemotoma in the right cord so I suspect that'll take a while to go away. I realize I'm only 4 weeks along but I still have absolutely no regrets, on one hand I kinda wish I did this earlier but at 32 I'm still relatively young and I'm honestly not sure I would have been ready when I was younger dispite the fact that I've wanted my testicles gone since I hit puberty. I'm on testosterone, I have my next blood test in a few weeks where they'll maybe adjust my dosage, aiming to get me between 700 and 1000 ng/dl I actually feel pretty nornal on the current dosage.

Are you sure about your testosterone levels? Were your old values that high? 1000 ng/dl is a pretty high level even for your age.

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
Thats the goal of the TRT clinic I'm going to. I was slightly irresponsible and didn't get my levels checked before I got castrated which was probably a mistake. From what I can tell 300 to 1,000 is considered "normal range" for men in my age group. Considering this is a TRT clinic they lean in favor of getting towards the higher end of that range for their patients, they actually wanted to start me on 200mg of T cypionate a week but I requested 140mg to start since I wanted to be somewhat conservative with it. I Ultima went with a TRT clinic to start since I don't have a primary care doc at the moment and I've been shopping around for one in my insurance network who's likely to be open minded about the whole eunuch thing I have going on now. TRT clinics on the other hand don't give a shit for lack of a better expression, they booked my appointment the next day after I called them and probably would have happily written me a prescription for TRT even if I still had my testicles and didn't need it. It costs more than through my insurance but I enjoy the fact that I didn't have to jump through any hoops at all to get treatment, I showed up got my blood drawn, explained that my shockingly low T levels (20 ng/dl) were because I didn't have any testicles anymore, then got my first shot in office, paid my bill and recieved a box a few days later with a home TRT injection kit.

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
I'd be inclined to agree w/ Castor, it sounds like a high level, and as you say the clinic is probably pushing you towards the high end... From what I've heard, that is the 'business model' of those clinics. Opinions vary but I've heard more than a few argue that those clinics basically exist as a way to give docs a way to pull in cash patients by claiming to treat 'inadequacies' by prescribing doses that are arguably not medically indicated.... IOW, a bit on the 'shady' side...
What are your desired end goals for being on T? Are you trying to keep libido and sexual function, or are you more just interested in maintaining bone health, etc.?
I'd suggest that for questions about hormone levels, you'd be better off with an endocrinologist than a generalist PCP.... It might also make sense to reach out to any trans-gender clinics / centers / support groups in your area to see if they can point you at doctors in your network. I've actually been pleasantly surprised at how little of an issue it's been with the medical people I've dealt with, but I'm also (for better or worse) in an extremely liberal state. In a more conservative area I'd expect the docs that are in the TG circle would be the most open to eunuch patients AND have more relevant expertise on things like hormones...

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
Well, from my point of view, I can only say that it would be favourable if you knew your old values. There will be a blood test before castration, won't there? Your body will react in some way to the artificial testosterone that you receive via TRT because it is used to a certain amount of natural testosterone that the testicles previously produced. Surely you are aiming for a specific goal with the castration or was it just about the physical change? Higher or lower testosterone levels after castration cause changes. You can only guess which ones if you don't know the old values. For example, if you aim for lower values, your libido will be reduced, if you aim for the same values, everything will stay (almost) the same, only your testicles will no longer be present and you will be infertile. If your values increase as a result of TRT, you will, according to everything I know, notice a significantly increased sexual drive.

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
I'm not denying that it's probably a bit on the high end, that said I kinda want to play around a bit with my testosterone levels. I have a love for tinkering and modifying things to better suit my needs and this is the first time I've really had an opportunity to dabble in bio-hacking so to me this is kinda fun. This is the main reason I'm willing to humor the TRT clinic I'm going to other than for the fact that their business model makes it extremely simple and hassle free for me to get my hands on the TRT. I'll follow their recommendations to get to the levels they want me at and see how I feel, if I don't like it I'll just drop my levels down again. Yes TRT clinics can be a bit on the Shady side but I will admit, for my purposes it's kinda ideal since it's giving me an opportunity to dial in my T levels how I want them with very little hassle. I had to jump through quite a few hoops to become the eunuch I wanted to be, though thanks to the efforts of eunuchs before me, many of whom use this site far fewer than I would have had to decades ago, but still it's nice to have something be so easy.
My goals for T are mostly to maintain bone and muscle mass, while avoiding things like hot flashes, lethargy, depression and weight gain. I've always been fairly physically active and had a fairly lean physique and I'd like to keep it that way. Maintaining my libido and sexual function is a plus but it's something I accepted that I might lose when I got castrated, luckily that doesn't seem to be the case yet, I went a few weeks without T and I completely lost my libido and became impotent towards the end but a day or so after my first injection I was completely back to normal.
I've found a LGBTQ+ friendly medical group in my city that looks really promising, but I'm kinda keeping my options open and seeing what out there would be the best fit for me because I don't currently have any real rush to find a PCP. I have access to TRT and am otherwise completely healthy. I would/will absolutely seek out an endo if I started having issues with my hormones but right now that's not the case.

Re: As of Oct 4th I'm officially a Eunuch
That all sounds very good. If you want to play around with your testosterone levels, castration was certainly the right decision. I just wanted to say that very high testosterone levels can have consequences such as increased body hair, stronger beard growth, higher sex drive, possibly more hair loss on the head and, last but not least, the enormous influence on the prostate. I would recommend from my own experience that you consult a hormone specialist (endocrinologist) on the last point in particular. The prostate converts part of the testosterone into the biologically active DHT. But these are just my thoughts on the subject.
