Announcement & Request
Those of you who have been around the Archive for a while know that I'm a "retired" academic - as if academics ever retired. I spent 30 years at the university teaching, administrating, researching and writing. You may also know that I arrived at the Archive seeking to understand one of the best students I had worked with in my career. What I have found here is an incredibly diverse group of fascinating people. I am continually amazed at the caring nature of the conversations that are held and of the advice that is given. I consider many of you friends and have met nearly a dozen face-to-face and correspond and/or talk on the telephone with others as well.
After a great deal of thought, I have decided that I would like to research and write about the Eunuch Archive. I think that an accurate and sympathetic book is needed to explain to the outside world what this community is all about. The book would be scholarly and not one to be found in your local Borders or Barnes & Noble, but rather in university libraries. There would be absolutely no sensationalism.
I will ONLY work on such a book if there is no objection from any of the regular participants here. Since the Archive is open to anyone who cares to join, I wouldn't doubt that there is someone already gathering data on us. I propose to do it openly and would certainly seek approval from anyone whose words I used.
I would also NOT write anything that could be traced to any identifiable individual. Privacy would need to be absolutely respected.
As an extension of the work I have done on the Nonfiction Board, I already have begun research for a scholarly history of human castration - from Sumer to the present. That work will continue regardless of any decision on a book about the Eunuch Archive itself.
Please let me know your feelings about such an enterprise, either with comments on this thread or through Personal Messages. As I said, I will NOT do any such research or writing without approval of those who participate here.

I would love to help out. Jesus, I don't know the story about your student. If you are comfortable sharing the details, I'd like to know. It's okay if you aren't, though.

Jesus,
No problem, just don't use my real name, O.K.?
Do I have a real name?
Yeah, I think that bBoy knows it...
At least he used to...

Jesus,
This is a wonderful idea. I have no objections to it. Please feel free to ask if there is anything else I can contribute to help out.

You do realize, however, that you will have to include a picture of Andrew's cats. Maybe not Andrew, but the cats...
By all means, go for it. It sounds like a great project. Ring me up sometime and let me know what you need, or email me. I'd be happy to participate in any way that I can.

Re: Announcement & Request
As someone who has encountered difficulties in research in my field, because nobody took the time or made the effort to record or research certain things at specific times in the past, I encourage you to go forward and do the most complete and balanced job you can. I personally find the archive fascinating for reasons only peripheral to eunuchism.
On a computer to which I don't previously have access, several years ago, before vbulletin was adopted, I saved a small number of archive posts. As I understand it, these may not exist anywhere else. If you set up a site to which things like that could be sent as research documents, I would send them, if I can again get access that computer. Of course, there may be others who also saved bits and pieces of the archive in years gone by.

Re: Announcement & Request
Jesus, If any of my postings help you with an informed book on the Eunuch Archive, please use them and also PM me with any other question too.
There aren't millions of people from the UK registered here, but quite there are quite a few and I, like Quillman am happy to co-operate should you like it.
The invitation though is specific to you and your research only, as we love having you with us! Good luck.

Re: Announcement & Request
I want to thank you all for the vote of confidence. I'll certainly do my best to create something that you will all be proud of.
This puts three book projects on my plate at this time. There's one other that's definitely ahead of it (and already promised to the publisher). The work on the Eunuch Archive community and the book on the history of human castration will probably be worked on in parallel. I certainly plan to continue posting on the Nonfiction Board any interesting discoveries that I make on the history front.
