Profile Avatars

Post by Nulloguy »

Do you have basic rules around what kinds of avatars are allowed for our profiles?

IE actual photos OK? Nudity OK? Cartoons OK? Cartoons showing nudity OK? I'm looking for guidance on what is allowable and what is not on this new site.

Thanks!

I don't think there has been a formal posted policy yet, but I think it will be about the same as on EAv2, namely "PG-13+" equivalent - no explicit photos of genitals or 'full body' nudity, overly detailed cartoons, etc... No photos of recognizable persons other than the user

If a person wants to show a dressed photo of themselves or a pet (not licking it's genitals! ) etc. OK - just make it reasonably "decent" Ditto cartoons and so on... OK to have 'suggestive' connotations (like the scissors and such on mine) but they shouldn't be explicit...

Bottom line is that we want to be pretty open, but don't want avatars that would cause legal problems, etc. and the mods reserve the right to tell people to change ones we feel are inappropriate...

I have seen some people posting nudes in discussion here. Though it doesn't seem out of hand yet, but those are decisions for the new sites managers.

I have several thing on my computer I was thinking of putting up, the one I had in mind was a cartoon, but it did have nudity in it. So I'll forgo that, and pick something else.

Hmmm... I thought I've read every post that's been made here so far... The only nude photo I've noticed so far has been one in the surgery discussion that could be considered an 'anatomical example' illustration. (If I've missed some I might need to get my glasses checked! )I think the overall intent is not to allow 'package shots' with very limited exceptions for specific instances like that one...

Probably the one I saw. I just wanted to ensure I comply with the wishes of the management here on the new site.

Back to profile avatars, I would have thought this would be something along the lines of being able to post a profile photo. As of now, files are limited to a rather small 6Kb. Is that something which can be changed, or is this system limited?

The file I was trying to upload was 88kb. Even as clunky as the old site was, it didn't limit the file size to something quite that small. I know in systems I've run in the past, that this was something which could usually be set by the moderator/owner of the site. If we're limited in such a way, I can accept it, but thought it might be worth looking into.

I'm not sure - question is "Above my Pay Grade" will send a message to Fusion to ask, though he probably will see it here... (FWIW, I was able to get mine down to the size limit by just resizing it a little at a time.
