Hello, my name is Nick. I am eunuch who was electively castrated in May of 2023. I had been a member of the previous EA under various names. I've been on TRT starting about a year before my surgery. I've tried chemical castration in years past and I never like my testicles. When they stopped working I had them removed. I've been wondering what it's like to go natural and I'm going to give it a test drive after experiencing an enlarged prostate and pee related problems. I was prescribed Dutasteride 6 months ago by my doctor and it did wonders for my hair and my prostate calmed down but it made me feel sort of chemical castrated anyway so I figured why not go natural? I'm 51 years old and it looks like it's time to give it a try. I'm also interested in trying low dose estradiol as a hormone alternative. My doctor has agreed to prescribe me a weekly patch version if I feel like I need it.
I'm here for advice on the transition. I look forward to meeting a few friends.
Best Regards,
Nick
Hi Nick, Glad you found us here. I know a lot of people have gone natural, but it does have risks of bone health among other issues. Because I was already at risk for bone issues due to my SCI, (and have been told I already have osteopenia) What I STRONGLY advise is getting a 'baseline' bone density scan before stopping the T, and then repeating it as often as your insurance will allow (typically every 2-3 years) to monitor.
When I started talking to docs about getting fixed I was told that natural was completely not an option, and that I would have to agree to T or E for life before they would even consider chemical castration, let alone surgical... I opted for E, and have been on the E-patch since... Other than having to remember to swap out the patch twice a week, it is pretty low hassle... It DID make my breasts grow, and I now have noticeable "Moobs" but am still barely within the 'normal male' range, at least with a shirt on. The wisdom on EAv2 was that how much you get is extremely variable, but somewhat related to age (older-less) and how endowed your female blood relatives are. Takes about a year to grow as much as they are going to, not much change after that.
Very shortly after I started on the E patch my nipples and the area under them became very tender and sensitive, and this continued for 6-9 months, although it did get better over time. My Doc tells me this is fairly normal and essentially what girls go through as they hit puberty.
I've seen one or two references that a shot of X-rays into the breast buds at the 'cancer treatment' levels will prevent the growth, but it is unknown if it might lead to cancer later, and I haven't heard of anyone actually getting it done.
