Couldn't at least a watsapp group be preferable to us here?... What are your 💭
Though of this recently... Watsapp is so damn private.... Groups can be so secretive today.... Couldn't it be some nice idea
?...... Making each group member a registered member on EAv3... And welcome link only on this platform to be sure of genuinely?... Then we all use faceless watsapp accounts at least not to reveal anyone's identity so as to promote privacy.

I probably wouldn't participate. But I think Telegram is preferable platform. I see more of those large groups there.

I'd point out that What'sApp is owned by Meta / FakeBook... If you think they offer any sort of privacy, I have a nice bridge that I'd like to sell you...
I won't make any effort to stop you, but won't encourage it or participate... What sort of interest Fusion (the current owner / chief admin of EAv3) would have in such a process, or what sort of support, etc. he would offer on the forum is something he would need to comment on.

Good point Wheely. Facebook/Meta is not anyone’s friend.

I'd also add, that same goes for Telegram (they advertise privacy and other stuff, but... their chats are not encrypted by default and they are building their own crypto, which is one of the bigger sins in that tech.WheelyFixed wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 6:02 am I'd point out that What'sApp is owned by Meta / FakeBook... Public groups are most definitely seen and can be read from the server side.
Also, if https://rys.io/en/179.html is true, then there are bigger troubles.

I'm not sure if there are any of the 'encrypted' services that I fully trust.... I need to make a new signature and so on, but IMHO GPG / PGP still has a lot more going for it in therms of trust levels... (I actually own an early version PGP floppy autographed by Zimmerman, and am also a former "Munitions Trafficker" because of exporting the source to other countries.... (I also owned one of the infamous "Munition Shirts")

I still have my 4096 bit DH keypair somewhere... And I was once a notary of Thwate's web of trust... Think that transitioned to OpenCA. But now people just use letsencrypt without verifying their identities...
Did you fly out of the country with a printed book of PGP source code?

It wasn't needed - just put the source in a message, insert a non-US address and hit "Send" ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Restrictions IIRC)regs at the time prohibited allowing any non-US citizen to see the source code... I had a friend that was working on his CS PhD. at the time and had a colleague in the UK (an ally the last time I checked...) and they were working on a project that used the PGP encryption algo... They couldn't send complete source or executables back and forth with the algo included, even though both had a copy - just files w/ a note "Insert PGP source here"...dandelion wrote: Mon Jul 07, 2025 11:25 am I still have my 4096 bit DH keypair somewhere... That was the point of the "munition shirt" - which was a T-shirt that had the PGP source printed on it in text and bar code... There is Supreme Court precedent saying T-shirts are 1st Amendment protected free speech, so putting material on them that could not legally be shown to a non-citizen made a big contradiction, especially when the docs on the shirt suggested hanging out around the UN building or the 'foreign arrival' terminal of your nearest big airport while wearing it...

It was stuff like this that was credited with the eventual rewrite of the ITAR regs to be a bit less stupid and have them only apply to actual weapons...

I didn’t know the source code would fit on a T-shirt. My understanding was printed books was exempt from the regulations so PGP printed their source code as a book in order to export. Think it helped push the development of OCR technology too

I'm not sure if the COMPLETE source was on the shirt, I suspect possibly not... What definitely WAS on the shirt was the actual crypto algorithm that made the program work - they might not have included the more common bits like IO routines, etc....dandelion wrote: Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:38 am I didn’t know the source code would fit on a T-shirt. Basically the pattern was that Zimmerman would post the code to the "Due Diligence Server" at MIT, which was set up to only allow downloads from US addresses, and had all sorts of warnings about the legal restrictions on the code that the user had to sign off on in order to download it... When some criminal scumbag (like me and lots of others....

In the talk he gave he mentioned that on one of his later releases, there was a 'betting pool' on how long it would take for the code to get exported (as in showing up on non-US distribution sites). He put down 12 hours, and was quite wrong, actual time was about 30 MINUTES....
