Bboy Update: Tuesday night

Despite the good signs and that bboy was displaying when I visited yesterday at 1:00pm CST, things are not so good now.

At approx 4:00 pm the neurologist did a EEG scan on him and found no to sporatic brain activity. Apparently his brain levels are flat-lined with an occational blip. He stopped fighting his ventilator tube and now has been taken off of sedation. He cannot breath for himself.

The neurologist suggested that the next 24 hours MAY bring a change but he warned bboy's family that they probably should plan on making some plans regarding his future and that if he did recover he would probably be brain damaged.

To get a second opinion his family are having him transferred to the Mayo Clinic in nearby Rochester. There they will evaluate bboy and if the Mayo feels they can be of assistance he will stay there, if they cannot he will be returned to the hospital nearby his home. The transfer will happen either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Bboy's family is not doing well. They eat some and sleep very little. Today was a very bad day for them. Bboy has quite a few visitors and we try to do what we can to take care of his folks but I am afraid the only help will be passing out from exhaustion.

The hospital is really taking good care of him and today he got a full body wash and hair shampoo. Because I am an old friend, his employee, and male, the nurse asked me to assist in his bath. He has a 1 on 1 nurse and she/he rarely leaves the room. Today she will be with him for 12 hours.

This information is very difficult for me to write because not only is Bboy my boss, but my best friend. However it is my duty to keep everyone informed. Bboy and I have a radio show together and the station owner asked if the show should go on hiatus or even stop. Bboy would have said "The show must go on", so come Friday, the show will go on. If someone asks where Bboy is, I'll tell them he is on vacation in Rochester.

Your prayers tonight are needed not only for Bboy but also for his family. His parents, brother, girlfriend. Many of you only know him by name but some of us lucky ones have had the privlige to know him in person.

In my life I have known many people, Bboy is one of the real good guys in this world, we need more like him.

No! This is so not what we were hoping.

I will pray for him. Thank you so much for being with him and helping him so much. He can be comforted by that.

This almost does not seem real. Yet I feel as though I am with him and you in the room.

I hope that you can give him a hug for us, as well as hugs for his family.

I do not know what else to say. I am in a state of shock. Your presence and assistance for him is sincerely appreciated and we are with you and him at all times.

I'm overwhelmed with sadness. Sadness for Bboy,for Bboy's family and for us all. I'm particularly sad for Talula,to whom i'm very close. I'll have to deal with my own feelings about Bboy, but now I mostly feel numb and a little scared. FLO

Although I know BBoy only through his posts, what others have said about him, and what he has done for this website, this situation really has brought me a feeling of great sadness--perhaps because I can see what was possible, and now may have been ended in an incomprehensible way. I guess all I can do is offer sympathy, though that seems rather futile. I hope everyone can get through this with as much resilience as possible, and perhaps the ending will be better than now seems likely. Never give up.

I have been a vent jockey for 18 years (as a respiratory therapist) and done several (not many but more than a few) EEGs and the first one is never conclusive, depending on the drugs used during resusitation and level of sedation. i am shure that the Dr. mentioned it to you at the time. however, not conclusive does not mean invalid. i have seen a patient awaken after 3 consecutive flatline EEGs as a matter of fact, i was weaning one off of life support to die but at a rate of 6 machine breaths a minute she started breathing and within 24 hours was awake, talking and remembered almost every word spoken in her room for the 5 days since her cardiac episode. Not to say that this is common, but it does happen. Some of her care givers were, well, repremanded for comments and care given (while i got a box of chocholates). Please everybody, hold out hope while we can and remember that these things are not in our hands. i wish you well Bboy and i hope you pull through!

Let us all hope that Surf Toad's optimism is justified. I only spent a few hours with Bboy on a single visit, but I was impressed by what a very special person he is. I have been trying to schedule another trip east to spend more time talking with him.

My thoughts are very much with him, his family, and his many friends.

I like others here are i am very saddened by this and as Surf Toad has said it is not in our hands.My prayers tonight are for this friend i have only known through this sight but one whos very presents has kept us encuraged and has given us hope.I also want to say a prayer for his dear friends and famley i know this is very hard on them it has to be i have tears in my eyes typing this so i know how hard it must be for thoes so close to him.

We are one famley here tonight because of this man may God bless him in this time of need.

I'm very sad to hear this latest news on Bboy. I wish I could do more than offer my thoughts and hopes that he will recover soon. For those that are the closest, I feel your sorrow and pain. I think of myself as part of a family here, and you have my love and support for this family.

I haven't prayed a day in my life.But I cannot stop thinking about this.I work in the medical field also'and you expect this sort of thing when patients are in their 80's or 90;s. Life is fragile!!! You take it for granted until one day reality hits you or a loved one.We are not invincable like we tend to think we are.And I get through life thinking things happen for a reason also.That there is a god and he has a plan of some sort.I never met bboy however from all the wonderful things people are saying he sounds like a nice person.

I will continue to hope for a full recovery also.[twin]

O no! I'm crushed,this is very scary.I am a Bible Believing Christian and will pray.This same thing happened to my father.This is devastating.Bboy needs a miracle.Please keep us informed,I kept checking all day yesterday.

I hate to sound like an idiot, but WHAT HAPPENED TO B-BOY ? I don't think that I'm the only one who is totally bewildered by this. None of the posts I've been able to find tells anything about this sad event. Please, someone, fill us in on the background.

Ok. I really do understand the want to know what happened to bboy and I will go into as much specific detail as I can. Please understand I cannot go into complete detail because I must respect his privacy.

This is not a pretty story but here goes.

Bboy has always had a hard time breathing. Recently he got bronchitis which led to back pain. He took pills for back pain, allergic reaction, throat shut, he apxyiated and died. 30 mins of CPR and recessitation restarted his heart and brought him back to us, but as mentioned before, his brain now registers flat line with an occasional blip on the EEG.

I am sorry that I cannot be more specific and I am also sorry that bboy's story is so grotesque, but it is the truth and I owe you the users that.

Look for todays update but there isn't much to update.

Talula, you owe us nothing. we did not need to know that, i tried to explain to everyone that private things should remain private. it is enough to know that he is down and we should be pulling for him. any specifics are irrelivant anyway. we love you and River and know that you are bleeding for him. don't (as so often is the case) become a casualty along with him. it is good to know you and his family are at his side. these things are the most important. just try not to forget yourself and your needs while you administer to his. i wish you the best and we are all pulling for him.

Thankyou again, talula for keeping us as updated as u can. I am reading, and crying, and praying. I know the crying dont help much, but the praying is one of the things we can do to help. The crying is just something that comes natural to us, well me anyway....but I cry at most things that makes my heart hurt, or makes my heart feel good , also. Please "Lord" help him pull through.

We all have to go some time, but to me the saddest part of this is that BBoy, if he has truly left us, never attained his heart's desire. Let us honor his memory, be thankful to God that we had him as long as we did, and give each other the support we need to achieve our various goals.
