A film (probably only roughly) based on Anne Rice’s novel is currently under production. Rice is credited as the script writer, but the storyline posed on IMDb seems a bit off. The starring role is to be played by Owen Cooper, now 14 years old, who starred in the drama Adolescence. The film will be directed by Tom Ford.
Here’s the storyline as posted on IMDb:
Guido Maffeo, a castrated peasant-turned-opera star, and Tonio Treschi, a noble Venetian betrayed by his family. After being castrated by his half-brother Carlo, Tonio is sent to study music under Guido in Naples. Despite his struggles with identity and revenge, Tonio excels, becoming a renowned soprano and finding solace in love. His journey culminates in a dramatic confrontation with Carlo, leading to Carlo's death and Tonio's return to a life of artistic triumph and personal freedom. The novel explores themes of betrayal, identity, and redemption

Re: Cry to Heaven
I haven't read the book, but I always thought Anne Rice was a vampire specialist? Or do I have her confused w/ some other author?

I read the book. It will be interesting to see if the thoughts of the eunuch character can be expressed on the big screen. The thoughts of the castrated nobleman was one of the most interesting parts of the book

I like successful revenge stories. He could have had his revenge by castrating his brother. Herodotus tell a story that goes something like that, in his book The Histories.JesusA wrote: Mon Jan 26, 2026 1:07 pm A film (probably only roughly) based on Anne Rice’s novel is currently under production. A loner who thinks in castration as an escape from flesh temptations.
