Overheating: Life as a Eunuch

Post by Robby (imported) »

Not having Testosterone flowing in the blood stream for over 6 months, gave up the cream and shots; I found my body unable to regulate its temperature. Today for example, with the temperature reaching 85, I felt it was close to 100. Perspiration soaked my tee shirt in 20 minutes and in 40 minutes I drank 24 ounces of fluids. After mowing the front and back yard, edging and weed eating I was over come by exhaustion. One would have thought I was going to pass out from overheating and/or exhaustion.

Only those who live the Eunuch life without Testosterone in their blood stream please respond to the poll question. I am interested in knowing my life is not alone.

As a eunuch for less than one week, I will decline to vote. Maybe in many months, assuming the poll is still there, I will reconsider based on experiences. The real reason for replying is that I really appreciate this kind of information because it helps me plan/prepare for the future. I'm just curious, if your t-shirt was soaked, why not just take it off and let the perspiration evaporate a bit more naturally?

Robby, next time put on a sweat shirt, yes you herd me, you will actually be much cooler.

Loss of energy, yep. that one for sure but the heat does not seem to bother me.

No testosterone for 4.5 yrs - :) forgot it was that long.

Screw em if they dont like seeing a glaring white fat boy, i take my shirt off anyway. I show 'em leg too, and wear short pants. Such a manner of dress for a nun, but what the hell.

I do experience increases in heat intolerance with low/no T. Reminds me of the old TV show "Sweathogs..." whatever the show was. I do tire more easily, but am still able to maintain a fairly good energy level most of the time. Just need to rest a bit more often.

Sorry, Robby, when I voted, your message about not voting if I ingest testosterone was not evident, only the poll itself. Perhaps the notice should be built into the poll question.

Thanks for posting anyway. I think it's valuable for all of us to learn from each other. I think I recall feeling as you when I was hypogonadic. I've felt much better with testosterone, initially injections, but AndroGel for about 2 years now. My only variation is that I've reduced the cream dosage from 5 to 3.75 g. That doesn't seem to have affected me. While I've managed to shed weight - about 25 #s since commencing treatments - and think that exercise is as responsible as anything, I'm willing to accept that increased testosterone injection and a higher base metabolism is part of why I've been able to lose and then maintain a fairly decent weight for my height (140 #s at 5'9").

While the advice about wearing a sweat shirt may be sage, I'd not be too concerned about shedding your shirt when you're too hot. It's a very valuable male privelege that needs to be preserved.

And 85F is hot. My trusty calculator tells me it's 29C. I'd definitely have my shirt off if I was working outside - being very careful not to burn of course. The warmest we've seen here on the left coast north of the 49th lat this spring are temperatures in the low 20s. That was several weeks ago. It's been rainy/coudy for 2 weeks with highs in the mid-teens.

Best of luck.

Robby I voted for low energy levels. I do have to explain that I have low energy levels for the day to day chores I need to do. Of course if I am doing something I really like to do I have energy for days. So for me it seems to be more of the outlook I take about a task.

I have always been one of those people who perspire easily. I seem to be affected more by humididty than heat. Heat/humidity does not cause me fatigue just more sweat. I love when I visit the SW and I am in areas with low humidity. I enjoy the heat without all the sweat. I do find that I am almost always warm. I have not had to wear a heavy winter coat for years now. I am so warm that I would like to visit the ice hotel in Quebec City. Rooms with an average temp of 16 degrees sounds about right.

I have never used HRT replacemet since castration in 12/97.

Although I am "intact" I'm also non-functional. I've just started HRT and I can tell the difference. I have more energy and I'm uncomfortable at 90F but not nearly as much as before HRT. Also, no hot flashes. Wife and daughter no longer shout "No, it's not hot in here!". So, I voted both since without HRT it's undoubtedly true. --FLO--

RiverI tried the sweat shirt idea today, 92 as the high, and almost burnt my brain... 👀

It's funny - I did notice fatigue a little after I was castrated, but then I'm probably quite a lazy person LOL. Now I absolutely and catagorically refuse to feel fatigued in any way.

I think much of it is in the mind...Not that it isn't real -- but if you expect to feel fatigue you probably will. In fact, (not that I'm proud of this!) there have been drinking binges with work friends that have lasted until the wee hours, only to go home, get some breakfast then back off to work at 5/6am with no sleep at all. It's really not a problem, though I can't do this too often. And being hung over in work is not a pleasant experience, but worth it for a good night!

As for heat exhaustion, I do get sweaty if I do a lot of physical work... but never exhausted. Maybe I never push myself hard enough? I don't know :)

Rog,

You are a mere child of 25 - of course you can manage a late night binge and then back at work shortly after. Old codgers like me just cant do that stuff any more. Used to, but then, back then there were some good reasons to do so - fun, friends, and whatever could or did happen.......... Now a good soak in the tub, a nice comfy bed, and a sleeping tablet when needed, works wonders!

I had a very large tree removed from my back yard on Wednesday (50 feet tall, 45 inch diameter; about 16 meters and 1.15 meters diameter for those of you who dont use good old idiotic feet/inches which I am entirely inured of). Despite the fact that Matt (friend and forester) ground out the stump, there were a great many large roots running from the stump area that he could not grind. So this morning I got out many tools and saws and grubbed out all of them close to the surface. Since I am only 20 miles from Robby, it was also about 92+ degrees F. here as well. I suspect I leaked out about 4 gallons of liquid, taking in about the same. My ass dragged about 6 feet behind me. By the time I was done after 4 hours, I had to nap for about 4 more. Exhaustion was manifest, as was the heat issue - of course, it was 92+ degrees F. On the other hand, I am a very determined and dogged person when it comes to getting done what I want. So I simply dont let low/no T stop me - it does slow me though. Even at cooler temps I do "glisten" quite profusely.

And to think yesterday all I did was help talula move the big AC into his LR window, we too are about 20 miles from Robby. As the Brits would say it was Bloody hot today. That and moving this big wood picnic table with seats and I was done.

I still found the energy to BBQ some bergers and today its some thing Talula is planning thats on a stick, I will find out later.

The best thing about this weather is its so much better then 20 below.

Sorry about the sweat shirt thing, I forgot you need low humidity for it to work. I did it all the time when I lived in the Palm Springs area but the humidity was only 4% not 80%. But if your in hot temps and low humidity the Sweat shirt does work.

See you guys soon,

Today I did the yard work again in under 3 hours. Starting at 8:05 and completing the tasks by 11 am did help with the heat exhaustion. Most of the front yard was still shaded but the back yard was completely sun lit. Not sure what I am going to do with the heat regulation issue.

I am not interested in going back to shots and/or cream so it appears suffering is in my future. Keep an eye out for a burnt, red faced Mexican-Philipino running around the campground in a couple of weeks

I voted for both options. On the energy level I cannot decipher exactly what % of my LOW energy is down to my low spine injury and all the meds I take for that and the exact % down to being on Androcur. Combined together and being

middle aged adds up to a coctail Fraj (Rog) that would/could never ever be dismissed as 'imagined'. The situation is very real.

As for heat exhaustion that comes and goes. When I get a bout of it my clothes stick to me and I am on fire and it can happen mid-winter and midsummer.

Curiously there are other times also when I am very cold compared to my partner. I've mentioned this heat/cold situation with my Dr. who took some tests when I told him, but they didn't point to anything to worry over, happily.

Right now it is June and the outdoor temperature today is lower than a couple of months ago, I feel fine heatwise though; no sweat :)

I have been on Androcur for well over two years now. Part of that time I was working on a farm in hay season. The water purely ran out of me and down my back from the heat. I easy drank 2 gallons of water in one day if not more then. I do sweat a whole lot more now that I am on Androcur and exercise.

Paint?

Right after you dropped it off I asked talula about that and he said it did not need to be painted.

I guess I had best pick up a can of paint, a nice yellow sounds good.

Everyone Is Different. And I am the odd ball.. I am still freezing to death. Others are in shorts and I am in sweat pants with a blanket covering me to keep warm besides. I am not a full fledged Eunuch yet, but I am at the 150 mg. level of Androcur and I still freeze. Other years I have sweat a real lot but this year, I am very cold all the time. My body is weird. I am different.

I sure wish trading places was possible. I can't take the heat so I'm outta the kitchen. I like the cool 70 degree weather and nothing more...

You'd make a good Pacific Northwesterner. It's 11C this morn, and today's forecast is for a high of 22C (71.6F). Although it's supposed to be sunny the entire day, you often have to like it soggy as well. And for me, the real benefit compared to your neck of the woods is that it seldom goes below freezing in the winter. I nurse my palm and banana trees through the winter.

As an original West Coaster, I love the Pacific Northwest. I can take the moist weather of PNW. While living in So. Cal for over 43 years before migrating elsewhere, the cool moist ocean air did cause sinus issues but I'm a strong man and can take it!... :D

One of the reasons I live in the frozen north is the dry air 6 months out of the year. The other 6 months are worth the battle with sinus. When I lived in So.Cal, life was a battle everyday with sinus. You could live for years on what I paid in o-t-c meds.

Its been warm here in Saint Paul and by warm I mean 80's. Today the high was 82, and the last couple of weeks the weather has just killed me. I even run the air conditioner at night to keep cool. I set the temp at 72 and sleep like the baby I am

Not all Eunuchs suffer this condition let alone non-Eunuchs. My body temp regulator is all messed up and not sure what I should do for relief. As time goes by we will understand more on this anomaly and keep you updated.
