Todd - screen name change to Danya

Post by Danya (imported) »

Hi everybody,

I decided to put this up as a one post thread deal to make sure people see it. I'd discussed in an earlier thread how I want to change my name to something more gender neutral. I expect to legally make a name change at some point down the road.

Lately, you may have read that I'm feeling more on the feminine end of eunuch toward M2F.

This is all an exploration of who I am and that's continuing. I'm not dashing off for surgery of any type soon. Who knows what the end product will look like? :D Kind of scary thought!

Many thanks to Kristoff for doing this!

Hi plix, tugon and Pauline.

Thanks for the good wishes. Pauline, this is important to me simply because it's another step forward in affirming who I am. You've been one of the sweeties to call me Danya. Now it will be clear to everyone to do the same :-).

I can't believe I'm using my real picture but I doubt that even most who know me fairly well would recognize me :-). I took the pic in to work and people couldn't believe it was me. I suppose that's a good thing.... :-) A new head of dark hair, even if synthetic, and some makeup can do wonders!

Changing ones name is making a very bold and powerful statement when it comes to changing it on a gender basses. I am very happy for you in making this very serious step in your life. Wish you the very best in this.

I hadn't thought of the 'gentle and sweet elementary' teacher aspect, but I really like it. For many years I wanted to be a teacher. I just had never imagined the possibility of being a female teacher but I like the nurturing visions that goes with that :-)

Bobbie, I really appreciate the best wishes. You and I had emailed quite a bit the first time I tried chemical castration. You were very helpful then, although I only stuck with it for 10 days. Things are really different now.

Kennath, you've been doing remarkably well yourself and I appreciate your noticing that I'm doing better. My life path has changed dramatically and in unexpected ways since my start on Androcur in November. Very important, then, for people to remember the famous EA mantra, your mileage may vary (YMMV) and it may vary in ways that are surprising but ultimately can be part of finding who we are.

Hi Toni,

Thanks for the compliment and good wishes. I just got an email from the leader of a local TG support group who thought I really passed well in the picture and that it would help things.

My best to you

I've posted before about legally changing my name at some future point. It now looks like that time will be here sooner than I thought.

Elsewhere, I've mentioned how I will transition from male to female at work, and in the rest of my life, sometime soon. Soon now looks like the last half of May. What I didn't realize is that I'll need to legally change my name before transitioning at work.

The reason is I'll be Danya from then on, not only in the office but in total. Let's get real here. Danya cannot get by with Todd's driver's license. She'll have to have a license with her picture. Nor can she get away with using credit cards that aren't in her name and don't match the license.

So, folks, I anticipate going through this legal name change very soon. Up until now, when the whole name change thing was more of a mental exercise, I gave only passing thought to changing my last name, too. There was the thought of keeping things as comfortable as possible for my relatives by continuing to use my current last name.

There are some advantages, though, to going with a new last name. A major one is that Todd's last name is not very common and all kind's of internet records will retain this information. Does Danya really want to make it easier for people to tie her to Todd by keeping Todd's surname? Does it matter? It's not as if I intend to hide anything from people in my life. I'm not 'going stealth' by quitting my job and starting a new life in a new city where no one will know my history.

Nonetheless, I'm still bothered by what would be continuing, obvious (for those who want to look) links between Todd and Danya lying scattered around the net. There's also the fact that by changing my last name I'd feel more like I'm completely affirming the new woman I am becoming.

It is not my desire to needlessly upset my family (two brothers, a sister-in-law, a niece and a nephew are it) by changing my last name. I have read a number of accounts, though, of transitioning women retaining their surnames for this very reason but later regretting it because of the trail it leaves behind.

I'm more or less clueless here on how to proceed. I'll discuss it with my gender therapist tomorrow.

Hey there Danya babe,

Takes balls to not let balls run your life.

I salute you, and not one of those Heil motions either. May you find everything essential. Thank you for sharing your courageous journey.

Hi Danya,

First, you've got to do what makes you happy. But, I do have some thoughts.

Your sir name, oh, bad choice of words, sorry,😄 your last name is your link to history, it says something about the greater you. It says something about where your piece of the puzzle fits.

If you don't want to recognise all that have made you who you are, then change it, but if your family and it's history is important to you then you should keep it.

Just some thoughts, but as always, I'll support whatever you decide is best for you.

Love Pauline.

Hi Pauline,

I love the 'sir name' humor! :-)

Beyond my father's parents, I don't have any idea of what my family history was. Long ago, for the most part or so it seems, I left all that behind anyway for my own sanity. I feel like I was essentially left out of the family because no one knew what to make of me or how to love me for who I am. There was no 'greater me' that I genuinely felt a part of.

OTOH, I don't need to decide what to do about this tonight. The visit with my therapist kind of veered into directions I hadn't intended so we had no time to discuss the last name thing. Got to the first name part but that was it! :-)

I appreciate your input.

Hugs,

Danya
