Call me ignorant but I have not quite figured out what the "MOM" meeting is. A meeting of a sorts for folks from this group?

San Diego! Nice! As a former SoCA resident it would be great to meet some of you and see CA again. October is a wonderful time to be in SoCA!

MOM< meeting of members. We try to get together once a year in different parts of the country. I am still recovering from the last one. Its an event where you meet all these freaks and find out that were all normal. It is lots of fun and the time to short to visit.

plix (imported) wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2008 12:08 pm OK, I am thinking the dates will be Oct 18th and 19th.

I am not quite sure on the location yet. I am sure it will be in Southern California, and I am fairly sure it will either be in the San Diego area or the Inland Empire area (where Mac lives).

I have looked at a location in the IE, not far at all from Mac. I am still not sure on whether that location allows alcohol, or whether a reservation would be required for a group our size. The lowest reservation rate they offer is $100 (probably per day) for a "mid-size" group. With that we would get an area of our own with shelter. If we choose no reservation (assuming we can), we will have to take what we can find on a weekend. I haven't been to this park in years, and I have no idea how easy it is to find a good space on a weekend.

There are also some options in the San Diego area, and I would be more familiar with the options available in that area. However, those locations would be less likely to allow alcohol (meaning none of Jesus' wine), and I am also not sure about whether reservations would be required or desired. If they are, they appear to be significantly more expensive then the IE location.

The advantages to a San Diego area location would be as follows:

1. You could fly in at an airport closer to the event. For the IE there is the Ontario Airport, but it is likely to be more expensive to fly into versus Los Angeles or San Diego. If the event were in the IE and you didn't want to fly into Ontario, you would have a longer drive from LA to the IE. I know nothing about LA area accomodations, so I can't help anyone there. There are decent hotels near the Ontario Airport if you flew into there or wanted to stay there. Mac's town is not known for its hotels, and I'd strongly recommend against staying there.

2. I mentioned the lack of decent hotels in the IE (with the exception of near the Ontario Airport), and in the San Diego area there would be a much better selection of accomodations available.

3. A couple of members mentioned wanting to see the local sights. I can tell you right now the IE is nothing exciting, and there is virtually nothing to do there. The San Diego area will have a much better selection of activities available.

The Advantages to the IE location would be as follows:

1. The location I have in mind is a very large regional park, and chances are we can get a spot without a reservation. There is a nominal per vehicle entry fee, but nothing most of us cannot handle. I see no restrictions on alcohol, but I would need to call to be certain.

2. The event would be much closer to Mac, meaning he could attend both days easier. If it were in the San Diego area, someone would need to go up and get him, then take him back, then come back down, all in the same day, each day. Of course this is assuming he is not able to get a hotel room. If he can, the above mentioned actions can be spread over two days.

3. If you are willing to drive from LA, you'll probably get the best deal on a flight. Technically you could drive from LA to San Diego, but it's an even longer drive and not something I would recommend. Also, if Ontario Airport isn't as expensive as I think it is, you would be within a half hour's drive from the location.

Feel free to share any thoughts and ideas. Do not buy your tickets until we are sure of a more specific location :)

Ontario airport is typically more inexpensive than other LA area airports (thanks in no small part to JetBlue's presence there.

For those interested in attending the San Diego MoM on Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, send a <<Private Message>> to Plix so that he can send you the details. It's best if you can provide him with an OFF-Archive email address so that he can send you any attachments (such as a map to the site). The EA server does not handle attachments.

Details for the gathering will NOT be posted publicly on the Archive.

It looks as if we are going to have a larger group than we had originally expected. It's going to be great fun, as all the MoMs are!

I sent an e-mail (or two actually because I forgot something in the first) to those who sent e-mail addresses to me. However, many of you sent PMs to me that did not include an e-mail address. If you were one of these, you did not get the e-mail. If you did not get an e-mail but want to attend, please send me a PM with an e-mail address :)

Whether you go to San Diego or not, you will want to read this article about the period of time when child molesters in San Diego were legally physically castrated.

http://www.sandiegohistory.org/journal/89fall/most.htm

It was sure a surprise to me. It is a long article, but try and read the entire document. Interesting to see how many child molesters, after being castrated, praised the day they agreeded to be "voluntarily" castrated. It was "voluntary", or go to prison for life. Not exactly voluntary.

Do not molest children as a way to achieve physical or chemical castration.

In this case "Do not do unto others as you do unto yourself".

I would love it if we could go to the West Coast MoM and host it as we have done in the past but unfornately with gas price almost a dollar more than last year this time, our travels to the West Coast as probably over forever. The camper and Suburban nets us 8 miles to the gallon and at these new prices that are sure to stay forever this time, I think our long distance traveling has come to an abrupt hault. I would love to meet some of you knew people as well as see MacWolfie again. But the world really changed this year.

I would love to attend but it is unlikely I will be able to swing it. I don't have many women's clothes suitable for our cold winters and I need to save for other transition expenses, too. It is possible there will be a last minute cut in airfare on a flight that isn't fully booked. If that happens, I may attend.

I'm thinking of taking Amtrak. It's only about $65 round trip from San Jose. The main issue would be finding an affordable place to stay while I am there 'cause I'm po. ;)

The message has been sent to the second batch of e-mails. If you sent me an e-mail and did not get the message, please let me know. Also let me know if you otherwise want to come so we can add you to the list.

However, please check your spam folder before confirming you did not get the message. This was sent to multiple addresses, and many e-mail hosts will automatically spam such messages. You will be surprised at what shows up in spam folders. I've had e-mail from family, friends, school, and other important places all show up in the spam folder.
