Estrogen patches are indicated for post-menopausal use. Obviously there are off-label use such as your case. And after menopause one simply doesn't need estrogen to cycle anymore...
Plus don't forget even for women of child-bearing age, there are extended-cycles birth controls which basically maintain their estrogen levels for 3 months. So cycle really isn't a necessary thing except for reproduction.

True enough, never really looked into the contraceptive side of things... My GF wasn't into the idea, so we used rubbers until we decided (to late) to try for kids... She then hit menopause about the time I landed in rehab after my injury, so didn't make a lot of difference that I couldn't orgasm any more...
