I will need them because my health insurance turned down my request to pay and requests more information, which looks to me like they are just hiding behind formal rules.

They state that according to Dutch rules there needs to be a multi-disciplinary team to accompany me during the transition time.

I still have some formal battles to fight apparently, but I will not give up!

Hello RR_Randy, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, even if your path looks very arduous. If I have understood you correctly, you have received the opinion for an operation and you cannot afford financially to pay for the operation yourself? I myself am in the process of saving and if everything works out as planned, i.e. that I also get the certificate, I should have saved the money next year. I am so excited whether I will get the certificate in Mülheim, it would be like a birthday for me.

Hello Ralph, you understood correctly although if necessary I would be able to pay myself. But the cost estimate of the hospital that I received says the costs can amount to EUR 20,000. And in my opinion my health insurance should pay for that. I did however have a 45 minute phone call today with someone of the medical team of my health insurance and I am really disappointed that they actually say that they won't pay for a nonbinary person as the rules in The Netherlands are still for only the binary transitions (MtF or FtM). They will only pay for an operation after at least 1 year of social transition and hormone use. Both are not what I need and want, as I will stay male socially after the operation.

I hope this information also helps others to know what type of discussions you can expect if you try as a nonbinary person to get approval from your health insurance.

sorry to hear you have to deal with the same obstacles as I did and that your health insurance also ignores the legitimate needs of nonbinary people. If someone can't pay for himself, he is lost. Is it your absolute will to undergo zerodepth SRS, or is a simple nullification like mine also an option for you? That could save a lot of money probably.

Hello dear RR_Randy, I too am sorry that it is made so difficult for you. I hope the surgery is cheaper in Germany, because I don't expect 20.000EUR . As T van Keel has already written, it was confirmed to me on request that the surgery must be paid for by myself. Unfortunately, you have to be glad that it has become possible to get a nullification at all. Maybe there is someone here in the forum who is willing to donate something to you, of course it will take a long time, but it is better than nothing. If you want, you can write me privately an email with your paypal address, then I make the beginning . Unfortunately, I have no other idea. I have now actually in July a consultation appointment with the psychologist and I am incredibly curious whether the one appointment is already enough, or whether I also have to wait a very long time until it is my turn. Hello T van Keel, I started out thinking that 'just' nullification was my goal. But during the talks with the psychologist I realized more and more that I want a less male body without total transition to female. That's why zerodepth SRS fits me best. A more practical point is that not all gender clinics do a nullification while zero depth SRS stays close to what they are used to.

Hello Ralph, what a nice gesture to want to donate for my operation! Very much appreciated, but I am sure that I will manage one way or the other. The cost estimate of EUR 20,000 is from Germany! It consists of 2 surgeries: the big one and then a second one to do minor corrections. It includes 14 hospital days for the first and 7 for the second surgery. They told me at the hospital it is a high/safe estimate and that normally the costs might be a bit lower.

Regarding waiting time: at the moment that the hospital in Essen did put me on the waiting list for an operation the waiting time was 1.5 years. So that is after you have received the therapist letter with your diagnosis. Following the official route is a slow process! I wish you all the best too. Fingers crossed!

I don't know if we talk about the same hospital in Essen. For information, the Uniklinikum did my nullification and the cost was a little bit below 11,000 EUR in 2020. Waiting time for nullification is also quite short there. Just in case you change your mind about zero depth SRS. Keep in mind that zero depth SRS will result in a female appearance down there, not in a gender neutral way as nullification does.

Nullification will be cheaper than zero depth SRS, but the latter is what I want. Indeed we are not talking about the same hospital (I was aware of that), just about the same therapist. My cost estimate is from the KEM hospital in Essen.

Somehow unbelievable how fast time flies. The first five months as a nullo were not too comfortable, as there developed a stricture quite immediately what caused lots of problems and required a revision. And these problems hindered me from leading a normal life quite a lot. But now everything is ok, despite of some minor aesthetic issues. And life is good now and I enjoy the smoothness down there every single day. No regrets and I can say that all my expectations became true. Really nice feeling!

Another year has gone and last weekend I already had my second nulloversary. Not much to report about the last twelve months. Life is simply normal, even so normal I didn't think much about the anniversary. Still zero regrets about the nullification.

Just wanted to share my happiness about my 4th Nulloversary

It's still amazing how good it feels to be a nullo instead of an intact man. I like the normality of life that I never felt as much as today before the surgery. Can't explain why, it's a kind of mystery. But the most important thing is that being a nullo improved my whole life. Only the visual appearance of my genital area could still need some improvement, some day I think I will start to look for a suitable surgeon to get that fixed. But not in the next time.
