You need to check with your county's Senior Information Center. They do provide help in such circumstances. Their telephone number is (800) 510-2020.

I called the county and they offered me two programs: (1) they said to find a neighbor to take me and they'll reimburse them 40 cents a pile. (2) They have a taxi program = if I put up $40 the county will match it with another $40. Neither actually helps me. My neighbors all take the bus I might have $2.00 in my account but not $40. Thank you anyways though.

Do they have a "Meals on Wheels Program" in your area. They bring fully cooked meals to seniors without transportation 5 days a week at noon. You have to fend for yourself on Saturday and Sundays. If they have such a program it could be very benefical for you. One fully cooked meal per day would help a lot. Maybe Jesus know who to call for such services in California.

They did away with Meals On Wheels in San Bernardino - our city filed for bankruptcy. Riverside, the next town over, has the program. If only I lived in Riverside :)

Years ago, my mom lived on meals on wheels for two years.

Just a suggestion. When you do have food money you might be able to stash dry food such as oatmeal for when you run out. You may not like what you can afford to save like that but you will get some nourishment and may even be able keep you blood sugar stable if you choose the right (dry, nasty) food. And again try the food shelves. Some churches and synagogues have very flexible food programs --FLO--

Thanks, I love oatmeal. I have some right now but no milk or sugar to flavor it with.

I feel bad for you.. But most of are half way across the country away from you and unable to help on short notice. I still say Riverwind should have adopted you as his long lost son.

If you could get Riverwind to adopt you, you'd be in Hawaii where there is a constant temperature year around. And you two could argue every day who is older. LOL

It would be no contest, I'm older. WE were both born in 1946, September for me sand December for him. However, if he asks, "he's way older than me"

I've been living on beans, eggs and tea for my daily meals for the last week. Finally my check arrived early so I bought a cheeseburger, fries and a diet coke :) Hooray

As poor as I usually am, I did something odd today. As I was eating my cheeseburger, I noticed the cute woman in the next booth. She and her three boys were on the poor side and were having two burritos split four ways. I told them that wasn't enough to eat and handed them a $5.00 bill. I wished I could have given them more but all I had on me was that $5.00 and bus fare.

That $5 shall be returned to you in multiple ways! God is good!

Imagine the wonderful life-long message of sharing with others less fortunate that you shared with those boys

Your heart and soul is certainly in the right condition with gratitude for that which you have yourself. May you be granted many more vlessings!

I have had no heat for a month. My landlord said he was low on funds so he came by and shut off my heat. i just left a message on his phone saying "Monday, I'm calling the city and the health department to complain that I have no heat and that I'm 70 years old."

Hopefully he comes over and turns back on my heat.

🙋

And we don't even have real winters here in California. If I lived in Minnesota I think I'd be dead already.

On the plus side, my my manager called and said he'd turn on my heat again. On the minus side, he said if I called anyone else to complain he would be forced to evict me. He says I use more heat than any other tenant.

It appears it is best not to complain. That is often the case.
