I guess I'll wait for a new printer tomorrow. I have the $ to get it today but I forgot to pay the Time Warner Cable bill and if I do both errands the sameday I'll be gone 3-4 hours from mom. She panic for sure.

So I leave now to walk a lil mile to pay the cable bill and walk back (60-90 minutes) and go by bus to get the printer tomorrow.

Being without a vehicle sucks - LOL

Cable bill is paid but the 2.4 mile walk took 90 minutes. I must be getting old. Damn, soon I'll catch up with River (unless he's driving his Jeep Cherokee).

After three hours away from home, I made it to the store, bought a Lexmark Z1300m color printer for $30.00.

I haven't hooked it up yet. Had to feed dog, cat,mom and self.

GOOD NEWS:

The new printer is all hooked up, works perfectly and prints three times as fast as my old Lexmark :)

BAD NEWS:

Why does it take only a few steps to uninstall a dead unhooked printer and so many *%$#@*#@ steps to install a new with a CD disc?

Oh well, it works and I am a happy wolfie :)

It's understandable if you think it's dangerous to ride a bicycle, but someone riding a bike can travel at least three times as fast as you can zum Fuss, and you get a lot less tired. I'm not familiar with your part of the San Bernardino area, but I don't remember San Bernardino itself as being hilly--not true, of course, after you get over to Loma Linda and adjacent areas.

Haven't priced bicycles for a while, and haven't ridden on one for quite a while, but I would guess you could get a used one for $50 or less. Of course, the helmet, the tire pump, the tire repair kit, etc. would add a little to the cost of biking. It's possible you could get a bike for free, if you have a neighbor whose kid just got a driver's license.

Don't forget the gloves and water bottle, you may need to get the bracket to hold the water battle, small tool kit, reflector stripes to put on that jacket, head and tail lights for safety of course, then you need foot ware, and I guess you need to go to a sports shop and get the proper cloths for biking. add another OH $500. But you will look good biking around San Bardo.

Maybe a better idea would be a Ural, its a WWII stile Russian now American made Motor bike with side car so you can take mom along.

Well anything to help a friend...... besides I have not posted to this the longest thread in months,

Computer works great.

TV and VCR work great

Printer works great.

Cat and dog are great.

Mom's been a bitch all day. First time in a while she's been so crabby so I suppose I've been lucky.

I know, I'll offer to trade mom for Rupert :)

good luck

River

A couple weeks ago gem bought a tree for his cat Sam. Rupert likes to visit Sam and the two of them have had a ball with this tree, so today I got one for Rupert. I pulled it all out of the box and he started clawing it and mowing at me. I speak cat or is it Rupert but he was saying hurry up and build it daddy, I want to play, hurry, hurry. He loves it and told me so. Cats are neat, my kind of people.

Sounds like you're doing better than usual. I just had my apartment burn down with all my stuff, so I'm a little frazzled and depressed.

Sounds like you're held together with stronger glue than I am. If I had lost my apartment/house with all my tapes, books, appliances, I'd be looking for a handgun to end my existence.

You, on the otherhand, sound like a fighter and a survivor. I'd send you dollars if I had any. I wish you well trying to put your life back together. Starting from scratch has to be heart rendering. You share that conditions with hundreds of people in the mountains above me who lost everything to the recent brushfires.

I hope you had insurance. (I have none)

Good luck. I wish I had better advice to give you.

No, no insurance. Nothing was really replaceable anyway: I mean the furniture I don't care about; it was all my souvenirs that are gone, and I'm to the age where I realize my past is more impressive than my future is going to be. I got some of my stuff out of there, not much but it was a thrill getting anything at all. I'm pretty much over being angry and upset, but it sneaks back up on me from time to time. Then I just have to recite "They're just THINGS, they're just THINGS."

Even after cleaning my VCR twice, it is still eating tapes so I'm off tomorrow to purchase another VCR. It has eaten two tapes so far. Taping is what I live for.

I called Target and they have VCR/DVD combos for $59.00. It can't be worse than the $90 one I bought at Radio Shack :)

I got a VCR from Radio Shack back in the early 90's and it was nothing BUT problems. I won't buy stuff there anymore.

Well, I'm Back. It tool only two hours today, by bus. I bought a new VCR/DVD for $65.00, a ream of paper for $5.00 and two ink cartridges for my printer for $42.00. One ink cartridge for my old printer used to cost $37.

Now comes the fun part. Bear in in mind that when it comes to electronic gadgets, I have the IQ of a gnat.

I will look at the back of my tV, old VCR and cable to see how Ken_SD had them hooked up, write down what colored RCA connection goes where and then unhook old VCR and attempt to hook up new VCR.

Believe me, it was so much easier when there were no red, yellow and white RCA cables. All I had to do was hook up two Coaxial wires and it was installed.

Ken would have it done in ten minutes. I'll hope to have it done in a few hours. Ken = Tarzan MacWolf = Cheetah's dumber brother.

I called Radio Shack's Warantee Department and they gave me a reference # and said the store will refund my $80.00. I think I'll call the store manager tomorrow to verify that before I walk the two miles up and back lugging their piece of junk.

It only took me twenty minutes to hook up my new DVD/VCR thanks to me following Ken_SD's excellent instructions. It works perfectly. Now, let's hope it outlives the DVD/VCR from Radio Shack which lasted only 75 days.

I guess everybody has good and bad in their days. Mine was a mixture.

BAD PART: Mom was afflicted with Montezuma's Revenge most of the morning so I spent most of that time cleaning her up, washing her clothes, cleaning up the floor and cleaning her toilet. In case I've never mentioned it before, I hate cleaning up shit.

GOOD PART: After I had mom settled down with lomotil and a nerve pill giving her three hours of rest and me, three blistful hours of peace and quiet. On occasion, quiet can be so satisifying :)

Mom explored the house ALL DAY Sunday in her wheelchair then had several panic attacks last so I was afforded little sleep. I awoke at 10:30am to clean the house before mom's nurse-bather, Frankie, arrives.

While Frankie is here I get an hour's vacation...to go grocery shopping. I seem to be out of my meds (DietCoke), dog and cat food, more diapers for mom, you know, the usual.

Tomorrow I

walk up and get my tobacco. Then on Wednesday I leave her for an hour to go pay bills. Hopefully she doesn't get out the back door before I return. I was going to get a locksmith to put on a new deadbolt, key operated only, but I had to buy a new VCR.

Sometimes sanity has to precede necessity or safety, at least in my case

Yes, and I still have to hire a plumber: kitchen sink pipes are clogged and bathroom toilet is leaking STILL. Oy Vey.

Short Term Memory can be such a pain.

If I recall, I posted that my printer had died around January 1 and I was in the market for a new printer. I can't find that post. Anyways, I ended up buying a Lexmark 3000 at Target for around $40.00+ just several days ago. It works great.

When I had first posted that my old printer had died, I had found a guy in the Yellow Pages who was going to sell me a used Brother printer for $30 and he was going to drop it off to me. He missed every appointment we had so after several days I just gave up on him.

Out of the blue he calls me today asking if I still wanted his printer. I explained to him that was five or so weeks ago and I had already purchased a printer thinking he was never going to show up or call back.

Somehow he found out I have a used car in my driveway that I'd be willing to unload for $200. It's a 1989 Plymouth Sundance. but it hasn't ran in two years. I told him honestly it needs: a paint job, two good tires, a battery and that it has one other unknown electrical problem. I said it could be the ignition, cellonoid, starter, alternator or wiring in between those connections. I'm automotive retarded as well as technologically deadvanced. I also told him the car hasn't been smogged in three years so there are DMV fees too.

After hearing all of that this guy with the used printer says, would I take some things in trade for it instead of cash? He didn't mention what he had to trade but I thought maybe I could ask him for a printer, DVD/VCR, etc as backups.

Anyone out there have any suggestions as to what I should ask for instead of $200 in cash? I plan on getting the things from him BEFORE he gets the car and the pink slip.

If he can't come up with cash for you for your car, don't deal with him. There are other fish in the stream.

I agree totally. You can't spend a printer on a much needed sink job.
