I spent one night reading this whole thread as well. I hope you still keep posting on this thread Mac as it's become an interesting diary of what's going on in your life. I'm so sorry your mother is so unwell and I've felt so bad when the money has been so tight and unexpected costs keep appearing (I know the feeling!). It made me wish I was super-rich so I could send you money just to make your life that little bit more happier and comfortable. I'm not rich though...
I also wanted to say that I think you've done a wonderful job looking after your mother. It must be so hard to look after someone with dementia problems. I don't think I would have the patience to do it myself. If you were living here you would at least be getting income for being a caregiver. I'm not sure what the United States welfare system is like, but it doesn't sound like the money is going where it's needed.

THANKS joanne-F and Lurker.
This day could have been better...or worse. Time-Warner cable was supposed to be out here somewhere between 8:00am and noon to install my Roadrunner High Speed. I waited till 12:10pm to call and bitch.
The nice man on the phone said the crew showed up and knocked and then called me and let it ring 12 times and no answer. I informed the Time Warmer rep "I was awake from 7:30am to Noon and nobody showed up nor did the phone ring once." I told him either his men called the wrong number or were fracking liars.
I had the front door all morning and nobody came knocking. Theoritically it is reschedueled for tomorrow between 8:00am and noon.
I hope their after installation service is better than their pre-installation service has been so far.
Well, I'm off to the grocery store. Ground beef, my main staple, is on sale for 6 pounds for $7.00. At that price I don't care if it's moose, squirrel or Natasha

I tried to sell my meatloaf recipe to a few cookbook companies but the only positive response came from the Bio-Weapons Division of the U.S. Defense Department.
I think they might want to dump it on Iran in general or on Jebbie Jeb in particular.

For my lunch-dinner I had fried fish and meatloaf. No Bobbie, it wasn't my meatloaf. It was provided a group called Meals on Wheels.
The Cable guy made it here by 4:00pm but wasn't prepared to string a new line to the telephone pole. He said the other Cable guy should have done it. He left and just called me saying he'd be back later with his supervisor to see what needs to be done.
I'll just sit here and twiddle my three thumbs awaiting their return. Yes, we aliens have three thumbs.

It was Comcast years ago but local office changed to Time_Warner. Cable guys just left. I now have high speed internet
Tomorrow I get to call Verizon and tell them I'll keep them as my phone company but they have back their fracking internet. I'd say fu*king but the Red Nun might read this and I wouldn't want to offend her innocent ears

WEIRD Day so far.
I was up late last night and when I awoke I was not aware of the time. The clock said 6:25 and I was about to return to bed as I don't usually arise that early.
I clicked on my computer which told me it was 6:26 PM and I realized I had lost an entire day.
That will teach me to watch Dr. Who, the time lord, before I retire.

I thought you may like this Joke Mac, Normally I would post it in the Joke thread but just think it belongs here.
ROOM 302
A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph's Hospital. She timidly asked, "Is
it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?"
The operator said, "I'll be glad to help, dear. What's the name and room
number?"
The grandmother in her weak tremulous voice said, "Norma Findlay, Room 302."
The operator replied, "Let me place you on hold while I check with her
nurse."
After a few minutes the operator returned to the phone and said, "Good news.
Her nurse has told me that Norma is doing very well. Her blood pressure is
fine. Her blood work just came back as normal and her Phys ician, Dr. Cohen,
has scheduled her to be discharged Tuesday."
The grandmother said, "Thank you. That's wonderful! I was so worried ! God
bless you for the good news."
The operator replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"
The Grandmother said, "No, I'm Norma Findlay in 302. No one tells me shit
around here

Today has been a riot so far.
I called Verizon to tell them to disconnect me from Verizon internet but there was so much static on my line I could barely hear what the technician was saying. They said, in barely understanderable words, call us from another phone.
Now I get to walk over to the grocery store, call Verizon and tell them (1) to disconect me from their internet (2) HELP, I NEED PHONE REPAIR. lol.
My normal phone bill is about $70 a month (counting Internet). However, since I had called Talula on March 16, there was a long distance charge of $35.00 for our 9 minute chat at night. Doesn't that seem a tad high?
This month's bill is $166.69 and includes $26 for Voicemail. I never ordered voicemail and I don't even know what it is. There was even a charge for United Tel Hehellomail Monthly Service Fee of $29.90. I don't know what this is either.
They'll be lucky if they get $100 out of me this month considering property tax is due this month too.
Ya think I need a new phone company?
Postscript: I tried to access Verizon online to get phone repair and disconnection of internet but it won't recognize me as I don't have a back-up phone number and or it doesn't like iMac computers. It kept asking for my Verizon "pin number." I don't have one and never did.
There are days I HATE technology

Screw the phone company and cut the wires. I went to Vonage several years ago and am more then happy. It is a Voice Over IP. You use your high speed internet connection to make your phone calls. For little over $30.00 a month I get unlimited calls including Canada. That is with all the added extra fees and taxes. Your area may be a little different but will be far less the the phone company. Comes with all kinds of extras voice mail, caller ID, and the list goes on. Road Runner also has some plans that could also be cheaper in your area but watch what is included in their packages for some services are limited in there lower cost plans.
Two hour talk to Talula will cost you $0.00. Day chat with IE will be the very high price of $0.00 in Canadian or US monies.

Verizon is due tomorrow to fix my phone between 9:00am and 7:00pm which means I have to be home all day and eat my own cooking all day: that is cruel and unusual punishment.
When I tried to get their internet office, I was put on hold for 17 minutes and charged $1.35. I hung up and decided I'd call Tuesday in the comfort of my home for free.
Tuesday I'll give Vonage a call too.

Go through the neighbor hood and offer to dog watch 3 or 4 large male dogs then when they get there to fix your phone spray them with some female dog Urine in heat then let the dogs have their way with them
(no don't really do it I' am just kidding) but it would teach them from ever messing with ever again

The Verizon phone repair guy was here at 9:00am sharp, fixed the problem and didn't charge me anything
Now I have a working phone to call the bus company to see what bus I take to get to visit mom at the nursing home tomorrow.

This day is starting off good so far despite the fact I couldn't sleep a wink last night.
I called Verizon and (1) had them disconnect me from their internet. (2) they also took off that United Tel Heliomail Service Fee and won't bill me again for it. (3) I had them cancel the Residential Voice Mail which I didn't order. Or if I did order it I was insane at the time.
Those calls reduced my bill from $166 to $110...much, much better.
In 90 minutes I go to catch a bus to take me approx six miles east to mom's nursing home to discuss her condition, if the tummy tube has to stay in, how do I keep her from pulling it out (without tying her up) and when can I take her home.
Hopefully I can get a return ride from the bus coming back my way.
I called Verizon back to get a copy of the first page of my bill which I left at the grocery store copy machine...grrrrrrr. However, after being on hold for 14 minutes I gave up. I guess I'll call later.

Well, I visted mom at the nursing home and she has gained four pounds. She's due to be released on or before the 26th of April. After that date I'd have to do a co-pay of $110 a day. I only get $40 a day
I go back to the nursing home next Tuesday to learn how to feed mom and give her meds via the feeding tube in her stomache. Sounds fun huh?

Wolfie,
It will be a LOT easier than feeding her by mouth. Make sure that they tell you how to care for the feeding tube and keep it clean.
Usually, these tubes are used because the swallowing mechanism becomes confused and the patient ends up getting food what most would call "down the wrong tube" and into the lungs. Of course, the normal response to this is to choke, cough until you are red in the face and to talk funny for a while. However, in people with swallowing problems this does not happen or does not happen with enough force to cough the stuff up out of the lungs. Expect to find the tube through her abdomen wall. You will have to pull her clothes back to use it.
It this continues the food and liquids in the lungs cause the growth of infections in the normally sterile lung and the lung tissue ends up being destroyed.
So, if they do not want her eating by mouth then do not feed her by mouth. IT is O.K. to clean out her mouth but anything else, especially THIN liquids such as water or coffee can end up in the lungs and cause infections that can be fatal.
'nuff said...

Be sure to keep some Coca Cola on hand for if/when the tube gets clogged and make sure they show you how to clear it if that happens.

I keep two cases of Diet Coke on hand as I live on that stuff. Regular Coke seems to lost its flavor for me. Maybe they changed the formula again.
I also drink the DietCoke with aspartimine and won't go near DietCoke with Splenda as it has a lemon aftertaste. I like lemon and Coke but NOT together.

I can't drink any of it. Carbonation expands and my little tiny tummy can't handle it. Soda hurts so bad it makes me feel like giant slugs are trying to eat their way out of my belly.
But Coke is good for feeding tubes because it's so acidic it eats through the blockage.

Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men. I had the week all planned out. Tuesday I was to go to nursing home to learn tube feeding. Wednesday I was walking a mile to pay all my bills. Thursday my friend was coming over to drive me and my cat to the vet to get my kitty checked out.
Unplanned: Last night it was hot so I left the front door open to allow cool air in and had all the lights out except where my computer was to save on electricity. I departed the chatroom about 10:30pm, was heading to mom's bathroom in he front of the house and ran into a brick wall in the dark with my head. I walked into the side of the open front door, was knocked to the floor, my glasses went one way and my pipe went another.
Since my head is among my least vulernable areas at my age, I felt no pain till I found my new glasses were bent to the point they woundn't stay on my face. Since I can't see much without them, I decided to cancel my 11:00am class to learn tube feeding and instead catch two busses down to Inland Center Mall to Lenscrafters to hope they can straighten them out well enough without charge.
If they can, I'll come back home and go pay bills today and see if I can take the tube feeding class on Wednesday. I still plan to take my sick kitty to the vet on Thursday.
My life is never what you would could call exciting but, it's never boring either heh heh.
Wish me luck at LensCrafters.
