Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
I thought I would start a message thread here to document parts of my journey which I choose to share. You may recall from prior postings that I lost my right nut in emergency (life saving) surgery on December 28, 2005. The ensuing course of events have been truly astounding to me. I have grown in ways and in new directions that I never dreamed possible.
Well, guys (that is a generic guys, just in case there are both genders reading this posting), I was with my doctor this morning, and the decision has now been made to remove the remaining testicle. I have some lab work and other tests to go through, and then the scheduling of surgery. For those who don't know, I am retired and live in Panama. There is wonderful health care here, and I am not worried in the least. In fact, I am relieved.
This posting is just the second time I have said the following: in less than a month I will be a eunuch. Gosh, gee whiz, oh golly, by gosh, WOW! (The first time I said it was just a few minutes ago in a private message to one of the EA readers.)
Part of the lenthy (and I mean really lengthy!!!!) discussion and check up (EKG, poking/prodding, etc.) this morning included 24 different potential issues resulting from castration. We went down the list that I had prepared, one by one. Osteoporosis was the major time consumer, but the doctor says that is manageable.
There actually will be two different (but "geographically" close) procedures done on me during the upcoming surgery. The castration part he says will just extend my hospitalization by one extra day.
I took great notice of one particular comment by my doctor: he is 100%, totally behind me on this issue, not 99% but 100%. What a support mechanism I have here. He is not only my doctor but a close friend as well, and knows everything about me.

I of course wish you the best of luck. I am glad you have a good doctor and good support. I will look forward to reading all you want to share with us. Please let us know how you are doing. Becoming a eunuch for me is still one of the most positive steps I have taken in my life.

Dear BudleyBear,
Congratulations on your decision to become a member of the eunuch community. I have read many of your posts on the message boards and truly feel you are ready to take the big step.....or should I say snip!
I know for myself, I have never regretted my decision to be castrated. I don't miss them or the testosterone they used to produce to ravage my body and torment my mind, my thinking or my emotions.
Keep us posted and let us know when the big day will is scheduled to occur. You will be in my prayers.

Hi Budley Bear,
I'm so pleased for you and at so many levels. I can also see from the sensitivity you have in your postings and in the ways that you have thought and discussed this through that this is your chosen and best decision, here. It is great to have a good Doctor's full support and I am so happy for you. You know you can also count on friendship and support from good folk at the Archive here too.
Very best wishes.

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
Had extensive blood work, etc., done at the local laboratory early this morning. And then travelled down out of the mountains to the third largest city here in the country for a visit to the big hospital. There I had a chest x-ray and bone density test done. I should be able to talk with the doctor early next week with all these results in hand. Scheduling will then happen.
Had a lot of friends over last night for buffet dinner, to watch American Idol (we are a week behind actual time for that program -- please do not tell me how things turn out!), and some great conversation. Did not mention to any of them what recent decisions have been made, but did that earlier today with one set of very close friends. Very supportive; non judgmental.
I feel really good about the future. Have even begun thinking about booking a trip (sea cruise) to Antartica in the early 2007 time frame. I wonder if I might be the first eunuch to go to Antartica. Probably not, but at least it is something to consider as a possibility.

I'm very happy to hear that you have such great support. That's far too rare. You are fortunate to have such good friends and to have such a fine doctor. You also have a very concerned and knowlegeable support group here on the Archive.
At one point, the Archive had a member whose original registration was from one of the research bases in Antartica. (Someone from the Archive always tries to make certain that each new member is legitimate, mostly by cross-checking the Internet Service Provider from which the registration was made with the information in the profile provided. If you say you're in Germany and you log on from an ISP in New Zealand you have a problem....). With all of the trolls and such, I don't know if the person is still even a member or not. We don't keep track of who is who once the registration is validated.

Congrats on your forthcoming procedure. I had my balls removed ~6 years ago. I can't detect any effects on my health status at all and have no regrets. In my case, sex is much better without balls. Previously, I had to warn lovers off of touching them.
Let us know about any hormone replacement or plans for it.

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
It occurred to me during the evening hours last night that I may have to change my registered name on this web site, perhaps to something like Budley[less]Bear[ish] for a starter. And then if my wishes came totally true, perhaps Budley[no]Bear.
For the curious, my lifelong nickname has been Bud. I have more body hair than I would like, thus the Bear part. In actuality, the amount of [undesired] hair on the parts of my body where I prefer none is not that great, I prefer to be totally hairless in those areas, and would like a full head of hair. But alas, Mother Nature has been at work.
It will be interesting to see what the ultimate result -- hairwise -- of my pending eunuchification will be. I really look forward to the more important aspects of that change. Scheduling of my surgery is likely to happen this week, and I expect the date will be before the end of May.

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
Hi Bud,
I realise that there are other more important aspects to dwell on....but, this is a good one anyway. I think that some of the Bear matt that you aren't too fond of will become much finer and thinner. One thing for sure, even for long term Chemical Eunuchs (like me) is that your daily facial shaving will be so easy; all those nasty persistent bits which require so many shaves will come off easily as you shave. If you shave your pits and bits then re-growth of the pits hardly happens and as for the "bits" well, hair will re-grow there much more slowly.
You've no need to have a major name change if you become freer of body hair you know, I've been thinking and I think Budley Bare sounds pretty cool!
My only downside pointer I would say is that perspiration can build up right high up inside the groin/crutch and could lead to a 'babystyle rash'. I call it that because the solution would be to apply a tiny amount of Sudocrem 60g which is a non sticky Antiseptic Healing Baby Cream; in that type of situation a greasy Antiseptic cream will aggrevate any rash. But enough of all this rash talk, what do you think of Budley bare
Take good care.

I wanted to let you know that I was a hairy man and now I am almost a hairless eunuch. Hair on legs and arms is very thin and not to visible. Chest and abdominal hair greatly reduced or very thin. Smooth buttocks. The hair I have left is similar to where I first developed body hair in my teens. The first ones grown are the last to leave. I can shave every other day but still battle the ear hair. Pubic hair is very thin. When I wear shorts I wish I had more leg hair when I am around people who have known me for years. I always worry they will ask about the lack of leg hair.

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
I have received some Private Messages requesting more information about my list of 24 concerns or issues regarding pending full castration. Here is that list as taken from the sheet of paper that I took with me to the doctor last week (in no particular order): possible breast growth
less facial hair
loss of energy
change in pitch of voice (none expected)
male pattern baldness slowing down or stopping
loss/thining of body hair
moodiness, tearfulness
osteoporosis (bone density scan)
hormone replacement therapy may be necessary
weight gain, subcutaneous fat increasing
infertility (duh!)
eunuch "calm"
penile shrinkage
loss of muscle tone
sexual desires change (reduce)
loss of aggression
hot flashes, night sweats
reduced body odor
reduced libido
effects on erections
reduced nocturnal emissions
asexuality
substantial reduction in risk of prostate cancer
anatomical changes (removal of the organ, and scrotum implications)You can see that some of the above overlap, or perhaps may even be redundant, but that is okay. Also, this listing is not meant to infer good or bad, but simply topics that I wanted to discuss with the doctor prior to making some heavy duty decisions.
Osteoporosis is my biggest concern. A bone density scan was done last Thursday, and I should get the results tomorrow (Tuesday, May 9th).
And finally, this was my list. Yours more than likely will differ.

Anyone rude enough to do that needs to be told that they are being silly.
...and that's being nice about it.
Tell them that you shave every day and it just keeps growing back. Then flutter your eyes at them and tell them how nice it is that they noticed...
...that ought to freak their asses out...

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
Final clearance with the doctor this morning. The surgery had tenatively been scheduled for next Tuesday (May 23, 2006), but it has been moved up by one day -- now officially scheduled for Monday afternoon, May 22, 2006. Current expectation is 2 (possibly 3) days in the hospital.
This time next week, besides having some other minor surgical procedures to correct problems (primary reason for the extended hospital stay), my one remaining (left) testicle will be gone and I will be a eunuch. I still plan to avoid HRT, but will reassess as I go down this path. A future option to be considered is scrotum removal, but that won't be addressed until way into the future.

Hi Bud,
It's getting very close now and you will be aware that there are loads of us
across the planet who are with you in spirit during the procedure and it is so good to know you have a good friendly and 100% supportive Doctor in this.
You have a good team all around. Sending you the best warmest wishes for
a good surgical operation and for a good recovery afterwards.
Here's the very best to you. I'm assuming, I guess correctly, that you won't be sitting up to a PC for a little while. So in the interim be aware that you have all
our solidarity and when it is safely comfortable for you to hit the keyboards, then we'll be delighted to see how you feel. All the very best

Re: Decision made this morning: eunuch to be!
Hi everyone. I'm back home from the hospital as of this afternoon. Immediately went to bed for a couple of hours of sleep. There is pain involved in the procedures that I had done, and so the pain killers and sleeping pills (along with anitbiotics) are warranted. Everything went fine. I plan to provide more details in the near future, but wanted to let all of you know that I am probably one of the newest eunuchs on this web site. The other two procedures were the reason for spending so much time in the hospital, but they went well, as well.
Absolutely the right decision for me. My doctor was (is) great!
Now for some more sleep.......
P.S., for a preview of one comment that I will elaborate on, given what I saw of the testicle and cords removed from me, I would strongly recommend never doing self castration (burdizzos, banding, etc.). It can only be risk prone in the worst case. More to follow.
