The second end of an era

Post by talula »

Good friends,

As many of you know, the archive has grown from a small dial-up service with just 4 stories on it, to what we see today. With that change many folks have come and gone, and alot of software has been written or discarded. But out of all that, The Archive has thrived through thick and thin and really has become a good resource for those that need to learn more about castration either at a personal level, or the media level.

It is you users to thank for the strength of The Archive, not the staff, although I send my personal thank you to each and ever volunteer that works, or has worked for The Archive. It is not a easy job.

Some time ago I asked IEunuch to step up to the plate and help The Archive by becoming it's number 2. He did this willingly and made some fantastic changes and has worked tirelessly experimenting, programming, kicking the tires, etc. For those that do not know, IE was one of the few of the originals on the old IRC chat and is a good friend of mine.

It is my great pleasure to annouce to you ladies and gentlemen your new number 1 as of November 1, 2006 when I officially step down and IE will become the new Archivist.

I will still be around and possibly in some sort of executive position, but I'll be taking orders from IE, rather than the reverse - it is up to the boss. I believe that as the current Archivist, to step aside and let new blood take the wheel in the best interest of that which I have pledged my service to. Let us all give a good round of applause for IE. No one has worked harder to deserve this position.

Congratulations IE!

Having just left talula's house and talking with our new leader IEunuch on the phone maybe a little history is in order.

Bboy started the Archive way back in the dark ages, then talula and Paolo joined with their areas of expertise. It was those three when I joined with 3 ops in the new chat room. IEunuch was one of those ops. He has been here sense way before I joined the staff, IE has always been in the background helping where he could. Like all things, change is good and we have gone through a couple head ops along the way. About a year ago I started grooming (handing over the rains of the Chat room to IE), then after a late night at tal's house IE was asked to take over the number 2 spot in the archive with the goal of taking it over at some future date. I lost my replacement for Head of the Chat room but IE has more then earned his new position and I am so happy for him and us. Yes us, because we will all benefit from the changes he will bring to the Archive.

Talula, Paolo and I are not gone, we have just stepped back, not to step back in but to be a resource for the new people that are making this the most eunuch er unique place on the net.

Congradulation IEunuch

Good luck my friend,

River

Congratulations IE! Thanks Talula! Thanks Kristoff, Jesus, Robby, Riverwind, Uncle Flo, Paolo and anyone who gives of their time to make this a safe place to meet good people and to share. Your efforts have helped so many grow, learn and heal. You never know how much you like and need the Archive until it is not available. You fully appreciate Talula and IE when it is back. Thanks all.

Congrats IE! Just as tal said, you have done a great deal of work for the Archive, and without you, we would not be where we are today. I know you will be an excellent Archivist, and I look forward to visiting the Archive under its newly appointed leader :) Thank you very much for all you have done, are doing, and will continue to do for the Archive.

tal, I have been coming to the Archive for a little over a year, all time during whch you have had the number one position. This board has been a great resource for me and has helped me through many difficult times. None of this would have been possible without you and the time and effort you were willing to put into the Archive to make it the success it is today. I have also had the wonderful privilege of meeting you in person, and I think you are a great person as well as a great leader. Your hard work and dedication will never be forgotten. I know you will work just as hard in whatever new position you take, and I hope to see you remain a valuable part of the Archive for a long time to come. Thank you for all you have put into the Archive.

My dear friend Talula,

Thank you for all your time and effort. The E.A. would not be here without you and your expertise.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Stay with us my friend for we do enjoy your wisdom and insights.

I truly enjoyed getting to know you at the meeting last June. I hope you haven't roasted any more vehicles since then. 😄

I was talking with Tugon, and we were wondering if the history of the Archive has ever been recorded? It would be nice to know the roots, history and beginings and all the major players (who come and go!) who have made it wht it is, and where it came from. To be able to give credit to their hard work and dedication.

Because I gather it all started as a BBS newsgroup - which I think is still alive to this day. It would be nice to have a record (perhaps just a single post or sticky or something?) of how it has evolved. I don't know.

Just a thought :)

I keep coming back here even as a non-eunuch because of all the interesting ppl and that most "not all" ha ha make me welcome. 🔨 :D 🙏 sheepy

Yes, someone (not me, my memory is terrible) should work at coming up with a complete history of the Eunuch Archive. All the way from its early days in alt.eunuchs.questions and ##!Eunuchs on Efnet (and the annoying sound effects, heheheh), through Geocities, Netcom, and up to the present day.

Any volunteers?

As for my new role, I am deeply honoured by the trust that has been placed in me, and will do my best to prove that trust was not misplaced. That, and I hope not to bring down the server too often as I work out what button does what. (talula, you never did tell me what that nice shiny red button does. Should I just press it and find out?)

Of course, there is a part of me that feels I should have gotten a cigarette and a blindfold when I accepted the position, but I try to ignore that. :)

I guess this means I have to find myself a new avatar. I'll try to find something suitable.

i was around back then. but as many of us, my identity has changed as members of effnet and the early chat room kept using established nick names. i was toad, then wb_smooth (in honor of Tomas) and now surf_toad. many of us have morphed through the years. i can remember the early days, but not enough of them to do a good job. also this board has evolved through the years as well. and of course we are not at around a hundred stories either. (but i am not really responsible for much of that either).

there are literally thousands of us that still come and go but are here more than not, in the boards, stories and chat (and even the personals section when it was going) and i have seen my hits counter on some of my stories go over a thousand reads. funny how with all that, there was like 2 e-mails saying thanks. oh well. i guess at that i was still overpaid.

thanks Tal! we love ya.
