Please don't spend a cent or a dime more that some effective mice killing traps or that big cat that will have a ball taking care of the Mousey issue for sure.

Spending money under "duress" or "treaths" is not a good idea, and just keep Momy happy that is top priority.

MOM is home and I'm back to being a 24-hour step-n-fetchet

Tomorrow I begin kibbutzing her about getting a loan to get house repaired and tented.

Yes I think You will find that the MOUSE problem is so INSIGNIFICANT that it will go Away - all by itself - the Mouse will move to a better place - but You got to speak to them - clearly and they will listen - and Obey. I usually sleep in till 9:00am. Today I was up at 7:30am to start cleaning. A social worker from Office on Aging is due here at 9:00am to check on my cleaning progress.

It's interesting: if I lived alone, the city-county could care less how messy my house was but since my mom is in her early 90's, the house has to be cleaner. Oh well, back to housework.

Dear Mac - I hope You told that government "worker" to bring his own cleaning tools and then put him/her to work for at least an hour. They wear out easy - sitting behind a desk all day.

Dear A-1 - Very interesting about movie greats. Yes I am a lot older / younger and my "mantra/poem" goes like this : I am 150 going on 200; I was born in 29 and feel like 25;

so what else do You want to know ??" end of poem/mantra. To stay young You have to repeat this mantra 1100 times a day or whatever it takes to "think Young" etc.

I filed this 4 liner in a Poem Contest once and I have used it dilligently ever since.

The Social Worker came and left satisified that my clealiness skills had vastly improved. However, he did insist on our going ahead on getting the loan to fix the back door, back window and tenting the house for vermin.

That what mom and I will be doing tomorrow....obtaining a loan from $3,000 to $5,000.

Insisting is one thing and the word advise and recomending is also implied. Maybe the door can be repaired with simple nail+hammer and some sand paper and paint, and the window the same. The "vermin" or little Mousis or the Big Rat ( if there are any ??) can be handled real low cost with a 1/2 dozen traps and some Cheese or that nice Citty on Loan from the Pet Place. Think Low Cost and You wont need to "borrow" big money.

If the "insistener" becomes unruly afterwards You can say "You got advise" from Washington to conserve Funds and You are looking at "Low Cost Techniques".

The Tent Idea with Toxins is a very dangerous method, and no one will admit this, so You must make it a rule to avoid TOXINS on Your own...Best wishes from JOhan N3RF

REPORT.

I stopped by the DOLLAR store down the street. I found two versions for $1:29 , the regular Mouse-Trap with either two in a pack or a slightly larger one in a pack. Then I found the GLUE - Tray and Glue Sheat version, same price, that attracts mice.

So a dozen or so "traps" for less than $20 dollars will take care of the Problem in the old TRADTIONAL way. The Cat also provides companionship if that is an extra - for the Mouser Kitty that can do it all the Traditional way. Like some of You friends mentioned before the TOXIC FUMES will leave dead Mice in the walls and left over TOXINS to smell for Years to come, so that is not a Good Solution, only a very Expensive solution that to me sounds like a "rich persons" approach. How many rooms are we talking about and how many Mice and how big a Mice-Family are we talking about to do Mice - Genoside on ??? The Mice-Humane Society would probably prefere the "ultra Sonic" appriach that scares the mice - away. Regards. Johan N3RF

I am glad to hear that your mom is home, no mater what she does she is still mom. Once the social workers start coming in its hard to get them to stop. It works best if they put in writing everything they want and then when they return and its complete get another one in writing.

I have no idea what your going through, as both my parents are gone and have been for a long time. I know sometimes its a pain taking care of her but be thankful that you still can.

I agree - get everything in WRITING with the name, rank and serial number and date.

This will help You when You are ready to write the book Invation of Smart Asses that Stole my Mother and Hated Mice, that little harmeless animal that comes around to shear me up .. really. These little mice are very clean and pick up crums and bugs that You miss. I doubt they cause any monetary losses unless the Government worker is allergic to them when they make their many visits. Killing them is such a cruel act and if done in self-defense may be justifiable if they have equal oportunity to defend themselves. Sword or Knife or Chemical Spray - they cannot tell You what they choose since their language is limited to squeeks and wispers and grunts and so forth. Do You know what these sound means??? With Alzheimer's Disease any traumatic experience, like your mother has just went through, can cause a rapid loss of faculties and a marked decrease in mental acuity.

More likely than a stroke, her "loss of ground" is due to what the local authorities have done. Just roll with it but unless you want her institutionalized do not seek medical treatment. Hell, you just got her out of a hospital, man.

You need to face the reality that there is a day coming when you will not be able to care for her. You will have to have her placed in a long-term care facility. If she gets up and leaves in the middle of the night (or any other time) when you are asleep, she can get lost or hurt. You cannot lock her in because that is abuse. The only thing that you can do is get an alarm system to alert you when she goes out the door.

Sometimes physical and mental abilities decline together, however, if she remains able to walk (or run) and her mind does not allow her to make rational decisions, the results can be catastropic and/or fatal.

If she has trouble walking a good neurologist can prescribe medication that can help. Usually, it is dopamine and it is nasty stuff when administered orally, but it works.

P.S. Forget the mice, get off as cheaply as you can, keep that money, right now the mice are the least of your worries.

I agree, the stress and STRANGE circumstances and God knows what Pills they had her on, let is rest and let her recuperate. Save the money and the traps I talked about, all of them is a total of $20 dollars for the dozen. Well it may not be the "Glamour" of the "Big Spender" if that urge hits You, but it makes no sense to stress her or the mice any more.

Get some more Vitamins to help Mom get well and keep her calm and happy. Make a list of what she likes and pursue it, food,, music, You dance in the middle of the room, You sing, etc. Let the GOOD TIMES ROLL again. Thanks for letting us know the Progress You have made. Well thanks for the response. I am adding my comment here and hope You will find it. Nutrition is everything and back in the '60 I took a course by Catharin Ellwood,(Author of the book "To Feel like a Million") I think it still comes up on Google when You search her name or the name of her book. Then I recall taking a big C (big as they sell in the vitamin store) and a big Niacin (or niacinamide - the one without the heat-flush). Now we go here for the Big Multiple and a Calcium with everything. The CoralCalciumSupreme.com is still my favorit and Barfoot sells a casete (or CD) with a superb talk about the Calcium Facor (must hear and must read) Then the Colloid of Silver is fantastic to protect and help the Immune System so bugs wont bother You.

Look up Steve Quintos natural-immunogenics.com and read all that You can about it. It is by far better than FluShots and a lot safer. When more money comes in I'm buying mouse traps. Still see them in kitchen and my computer room but only one at a time.

Mom is visited by a bather twice a week who gives her a shower, a nurse every two weeks, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist every week.

Memory wise, still forgetful but, I may that way too when I get as old as Krister...ooops...I mean when I get to be 92.
