The nursing home called me today. They want me to come to a meeting next Wednesday to discuss mom's treatment program. AFAIK they'll just repeat to me that they are trying to get mom's two checks for themselves.

Yes, that seems to be the probable case. They perhaps think that your care of your mother has ended--which might be the case. Still, these feels unfair because of what you have given up for her.

I quickly have to find a job. I just left the old part time job at Penney's. I have to earn about a hundred week to make ends meet. I have always--almost always--earned at least above the medium income. I don't worry a lot but these days everything is costly. I understand the pressure, but you like me have learned to keep life simple. You are in my prayers.

I called my attorney today. He said I have both medical and financial conservatorship over my mother's affairs. I asked him if that means I could get a mortgage on the house to fix the electrical, plumbing, painting the inside, replacing the carpeting, getting a lawnmower, good vacuum, electric saw, paying off my fine, getting a used car, paying off the nursing homes, catching up on utilities, and setting up a savings account, etc.

Hartnell, my attorney, said I'd need to have ownership of the house first. He will contact mom's attorney to see if she will turn house over to me. Hartnell said to call him tomorrow.

I went downtown and did grocery shopping, paid off my water/trash bill and opened a miniscule savings account.

It was still scorching here in the high 90's. I want cooler weather.

Last time I recall visiting New Orleans was in 1964. I was going by bus from San Bernardino, California, to Fort Walton Beach in Florida. The bus stopped in New Orleans for three hours and the terminal was only a few blocks from the French Quarter, so I walked.

I arrived on Bourbon Street just after dusk and felt transported into a carnival of music, exotic women and alluring lights. There were hucksters in front of every bar trying to lure you in. I didn't look old enough and only managed a few peeks. Unfortunately, I was only 18 at the time.

A few of hucksters offered me a beer because I looked like a G.I. on leave. In those days, I was slim but muscular, my hair had a G.I. trim and my shoes were spit-shined.

I left Bourbon Street without tasting my first beer but having enjoyed my brief look into another world.

I'm Shrinking

I weighed myself on my medical scales and they say I weigh only 218 pounds.

Quite a difference from my plumpish normal of around 240 pounds.

I seem to remember not too long ago you did get a hair cut and beard trim. That could account for a few pounds at least, if not a dozen or so.

I was suggesting that while you may have been happy with shedding a few pounds, Bobbie killed your buzz (joy) by suggesting that all the weight was lost due to a haircut, rather than an actual improvement in your health and diet...

If the nursing has their way, mom will spend the rest of her life in a small room alone on a feeding tube. I have full medical conservatorship over her but the hospital won't release her to my care. Why should they? They get her income while she's there:P

Round and round the Mulberry Bush:

Mom's nursing home called today to threatened me again. Hooray.

They demanded to know mom's Social Security number, the source of all her incomes and copies of her bank statements. I refused to assist them with any of that information.

Their response was to say, "If you refuse to cooperate with us, we will call Adult Protective Services on you." In my opinion, they've used the APS line just a wee bit too often.

Now I'll wait to see what blooms from the seed I sowed today.

You may want to call APS and wage a complaint that the Nursing Home is threating you.
