Somedays life sucks and then there are days like today. I awoke early (well, early for me) at 7:20am only to discover my Internet connection wasn't working. Considering my phone service is intermittent at best, I was getting depressed quickly as my contacts to the outside world were rapidly diminishing.

I restarted my computer a few times, no change. I disconnected the modem, waited and...voila = nothing. So I gave up and watched a movie. An hour later I again tried and my connection was working

Sometimes It just takes time and patience.

BTW, the first image I perceived upon logging in was that of Paolo looking down on me. I knew Paolo was the Good Luck Dark Lord.

My burns are healing slowly but are healing. Nurses say my leg graft is healing but it feels the same.

My current worry are panic attacks: my pulse is faster, breathing shallow and the unreal but realistic fear that if I don't concentrate on breathing, I will stop breathing. Dumb huh. This usually only happens at night.

Any ideas? Anyone else here have panic attacks and what cause or cure might be?

Yes, I have them! They won't kill you, but you think that you are dying. I never found anything that helped but medication. There are short term medications that are addictive and long term ones that are not. The short-term are stuff like Xanex and the long term are antidepressant medications. It takes a few weeks for the latter to work. Xanax will stop the attacks cold, but only short term I had a period when I had the attacks about every fifteen minutes. The attacks usually last only a few minutes.

I used to get them everytime I was about to leave my wife. They are why I did not leave her. When she finally left me, I never had another one until May this year, but the medication is probably the reason I did not have new ones for a long time. I had them a few weeks ago when I experimented with getting off medication.

I was 5 months pregnant, and had not eaten breakfast, and apparently had a quick dip in blood sugar. I began to sweat and shake, and was convinced that my death was imminent. My heart raced, and although I didn't know how or why, I was definitely about to die.

Thank God I never had another one. It scared me so badly I can't imagine going through it again. I hope you are feeling better soon, Wolfie. Please mention your symptoms to one (or several) of the health care folks I'm sure you're seeing lots of these days. You've have a lot of issues lately, and there's nothing wrong with medicating situational anxiety. There's no reason to feel badly if it can he helped.

I had one last night night but it was mild. I also had one today from 10:00am till 1:30pm when my nurse arrived to change the bandages on my burns. This one was the worst panic attack ever.

Either her presence countered it or my eating a sandwich had something to do with it. "Maybe" it was Diabeties related. I feel fine at the moment.

Tomorrow I have a 2:30pm appointment with the doctor who did the graft surgery on me. I'll ask him for some Xanax and hopefully he says yes.

I hope the doctor refers you to find out the source for the attacks. Did they begin after your hospitalization?

I remember one of mine, I was still in St Louis and the family and I went to IHOP, that in its self was not bad but I got stuck on the inside bench. I had to go outside, to many people. I don't have many any more but yes they can be very scary.

Another thought is that you might need a sleep study, I remember when I got mine, they gave me a CPap machine, wow, I have never slept better.

PS glad your hand is on the mind. When you are healed I will need to teach you how to make fries without hurting yourself.

The serious long lasting ones began after I was burned and hospitalized. These new ones tend to last several hours. I've had them for years but in past I've had only 1-3 attacks per year, always at night and lasting 15 to 30 minutes.

I saw my surgeon this afternoon and he was happy with his work. He said no more bandanging my hand or leg asa he wants them to breathe.

He prescribed 20 mg Paxil for my nerves

Excellent, it may take a bit for the Paxil to click in but it will. I took it for a long time and like it. NO MORE SEX with Paxil but you DON'T Care. You are one of us, already.

Yeah, I noticed Rosa (right hand) wasn't as cute as she was last night.

I was a nervous wreck from 10:00pm to 6:00am. I think I got about three hrs sleep from sheer exhaustion. If I thought my future was going to be like the past few days, I'd have gone by now.

I had been plagued by anxiety, about 24/7, since early childhood, and occasional panic attacks. About 10 years ago, my physician prescribed Prozac which gave me hot flashes and severe vertigo. He changed my prescription to Paxil and, for the first time since I entered elementary school, I found myself free of anxiety most of the time.

I am claustrophobic and confinement in a small space is the only thing which ever triggers panic attacks now. Otherwise, I am free of them. I am now taking Effexor only because Paxil tends to cause, or at least favor fluid retention and I was already bothered by that. Effexor does not have that side effect.

Paxil has been, if not a life-saver, at least a life-enhancer for me.

I was going to walk to Coco's Restaurant for breakfast but the nurse gave me a ride. I ate and rode the bus home. I'm munching on my blueberry muffin now
