I love Edison, my electric company, they not only gave me LIGHTS but reduced my back bill to -0-.

I contacted Time Warner about my TV, Internet and Phone. They will be out Monday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm to see what needs to be done. Then, supposedly, a team will come out to restore my services in 1-3 days.

I'll call Southern Calif Gas Company on Monday and say TURN THE DAMNED GAS BACK ON. I refuse to take cold showers.

And in Russia we spend 21 days every summer without hot water (for maintaince and tests). Why 21? easy - more continuous days and there should be a compensation for the lack of service.

Ok, ok, I wouldn't scare anyone anymore with horror stories from Russia:)🍑👋

Southern Calif Gas was out and gave me good and not so good news:

Good - I now have a working water heater and stove.

Not so good - No heat for a while yet.

* The floor heater needs vacuumed out. Once it's done, I recall Gas company and tell them to send out a skinny Gas man as he has to crawl under the house to turn the heater back on.

* The wall heater is off because the vent needs to be cleaned out. Vent is on roof and is probably clogged with a bird's nest or maybe it's crimped.

My neighbor says he'll fix my two roof holes (caused by the firefighters) for $50 plus I buy the tar.

Till the above is fixed, I'll be wearing a jacket during the daytime :)

It's sooooooo nice to have a stove, water heater, electricity, phone and Internet back on - woo hoo

The only disaster I see in the future is one of those treatments developed by the Nazis in Auschwitz to torture inmates :( I think it's called a Colonscopy.

Nicely censored too 😄

Two workman are charging me $70 to cover two holes in the roof. Holes are about 2 foot by 3 foot, cut by firefighters looking for fire/smoke.

Offhand, I'd say the $70 is cheap by carpenter standards.

are they actually replacing lumber? replacing shingles? If not, you are being ripped off, and they are merely applying a band-aid

They replaced lumber and shingles.

Consuela and Maria, my house servants, were worried about asbestos coming from an open hole to my roof. Firemen had accidently broken it while looking for smoke.

My crawl space between roof and ceiling, is filled with asbestos for insulation but, access to it is via a closet which is usually closed.

I reassured them that one week of minute exposure isn't bad. It normally takes years of continued exposure to get sick from it. I worked in an asbestos plant a decade ago as a lowly rent-a-cop.

might want to get another look. more likely it is rock wool. lots of folks mistake that for asbestos. asbestos was rarely used in houses for attic insulation, but was frequently used on pipes.

Rock wool or fiberglass is the most common housing insulation and is typically what you find in attics and between walls; for a while some used what is essentially fire-proofed paper pulp, but that was blown in insulation.

Asbestos was used as a wrapping around heat-bearing pipes or shielding on hot surfaces like furnaces, heaters, or brake linings. Industrial asbestos comes in two forms, fibrous, which was woven into asbestos cloth (used for suits, mats, and gloves) and solid asbestos, which is a compressed board rather like a greyish masonite; that stuff was typically used, not as insulation but for clapboards (shingle-like siding on the outside of the house).

BTW good that you are back on the net.

Judging from the age of your house, I do not think you have any fiberglass in the attic. Unless it you added some insulation in the past 30 years. Fiberglass is a light in weight. Will have a very airy construction. Would also be in strips about 15 inches wide. Could also be attached to a paper backing.

You would have the old type. Would be sort of clumpy. Sort of dense. Would be lower then the floor's 2x6's. Either would have a minimal heath risks. The dust in the insulation would be very high. Working with the insulation will stir up the dust.

The dreaded Cable Guy was out yesterday working on the telephone pole. Right afterwards, I noticed I was both offline and phone less.

Different Time Warner guy was out today and fixed it :)

Ask Time Warner for a credit for all the time you were not on.

Next outage you should be asking for a female repair person. May make the repair more interesting and enjoyable. :D
