Re: One Day in the Life of a Wolf - Memorial 7-25-20
I think I may have to take a bus to the ER soon. I've been having trouble walking. The muscle in my right leg causes agonizing pain when walking or standing. It runs from the hip, down the outside of the leg to the knee, and down the backside of the leg to the ankle.
Anyone else here ever have a pain like that?
So far, it's lasted a week.

Could be a back or spine problem. I sometimes get a pain in my right hip and leg that seem to be caused by my back rather than by my hip. The doctor said my hip was fine, and there wasn't a lot he could do about my back. I think most of my problem has stemmed from sitting at a computer too much over the years.

I had a leg problem like that a few years back that was due to a back
problem. I could walk a block or two and then would have to sit down.
It slowly went away.

Could be a pinched nerve and there are a few things you can do for that to help. First I have to ask do you have any redness, swelling or warmth to the area where the pain is originating? Mac I never thought I would ask this but describe that area to me.

No redness, swelling or warmth. At the worst, it feels like a full-leg charley horse - owwww
There's no pain when I'm sitting at my computer. When I'm lying down, the pain starts till I find a comfortable position. The pain intensifies when I'm walking, but the worst pain hits when I'm standing at the intersection waiting for the light to change.

During one of your hospitalization they hung an IV of magnesium? You were having bad leg cramps at the time. Correct me if I am wrong but I think it was mag and your levels were low. If you have the money you might want to get some over the counter magnesium. Since you are comfortable sitting in a chair I am not sure it is a pinched nerve.
I am glad you have no redness or swelling so it is most likely not a blood clot or celulitis. Both could cause leg pain.
A stretching exercise I was taught when I had a pinched nerve was to lie flat, face down on the floor. While keeping your pelvis pressed against the floor use your arms to lift your shoulders up off the floor. You do not want to lift too far at first and always stop if you have an increase in pain.
These are some of my thoughts to try before you can see a doctor. A visit with your doctor is always the best course of action.

Not unusual for a date delay. They just tell you if it hurts enough go to the ER or just wait.

Try sleeping with something between your knees.

I use a pillow between my knees every night, though I'd prefer a young blonde female with big gazoos

I just returned from the ER. They said my Sciatic nerve was inflamed and it will just take time for it to heal.
They gave me two Rx's: Motrin for the pain and a nerve pill called Gabepentin. I pick them up at Walgreens in a few hours.

I just took a dose of my two new pain meds. I'm hoping they kick in soon so I can walk to that gourmet restaurant, JITB, for my morning cheeseburger.

Motrin is just ibuprofen, It might give you some relief of inflammation. Gabapentin and Lyrica are often used to treat neural pain. They are effective only occasionally - hopefully it works for you. Been there, done that, still doing it, get used to it.

Normally, I get a ride from a friend to avoid long walks. Today however, my friend was unavailable so I had to walk about a mile to the grocery store for cat fud and down and back to get my pipe tobacco. ouch ouch ouch, and in case you missed it, ouch
By the way, my spelling of cat fud was intentional. It refers to a hilarious Far Side one panel; cartoon.
